Let me ask you a question:

If Yuriy was not his great-grandfather, could Laxus have used Red Lightning?

The simple answer is a no.

It doesn't matter what Yuriy passed down to Laxus.

The fact is that Laxus needed Yuriy's assistance to use Red Lightning.

You have to be well-versed in the context of literature.

It doesn't literally mean will.

Laxus definitely has the will to cast the spell (he wanted to protect his friends and guild), but did he have the power?.... no, he didn't.

He can't cast the spell without Yuriy being a third factor in that battle.

My case still stands:

Gray defeated Invel in base.

Laxus needed Yuriy to oneshot Wahl.

Don't twist these words.

EDIT:

Manga pages are manga pages. If the scans say so, it is so.

Editor's notes don't mean crap because I know all of you guys have used that as your "evidence" in the past.

That's BS.

I can say every character's dialogue in the manga is their opinion, so scans should not be used as feat then.

See how biased that sounds?

Either you accept all or none.

Don't go halfway.
So how exactly do you think Yuri assisted Laxus in using that move? If Laxus didn't have the power to use Red Lightning up until that point then how exactly did Yuri give him that power?

Editor's notes are put in by the editor to generate hype for the next chapter and things like that. I'm pretty sure Hiro doesn't even look at them, if you think otherwise then you're going to have to explain to me how Invel's ice is colder than absolute zero.

And just so you know, I do agree that Red Lightning wasn't something Laxus developed over training and that it was a move he pulled out of his ass just so that Hiro didn't have to give him an L. But I don't agree that he needed assistance to get it.

None of what you said is the truth.

Everything that is written and spoken by a character, yes. Everything outside of those boxes aren't hiros.

Thats just blatantly wrong.

Its not a fact at all. Editor hype is actually even less valid then a readers opinion because they aren't even going by logic, they say whatever the hell they need to say to make the ending seem "more hype" and bring suspense till the next issue. Nothing is more proof of this then something like this:

I am sure I don't need to explain to you why Invels ice being colder then absolute zero is hilariously wrong.
LMAO exactly this. We even used the same example haha

If it is in the context of the manga, it's Hiro's since he owns the scans. It goes through by Hiro.

Outsiders can't just post their text in there without something saying "Translation Note" or "Editor's Note". That would be taking Mashima's property and is illegal.

No, it's not. Mangakas have editors and assistants that help him create the plot and dialogue.

Again, editors and outsiders cannot post their texts in Mashima's property without noting it.

Therefore, if a text does not have some sort of "Acknowledgement note, editor's note, or translation note", then it is the words of the author.

In this case, it goes through and by Mashima, so it is a fact.

The power is in Yuriy's BLOOD.

Laxus is a descendant of Yuiry. He shares the blood because he was born from Ivan, who was born from Makarov, who was born from Yuriy.

What's so difficult to understand? Goddamn.

For the editor's note, go read what I said to Monty. Editors can't put whatever text they want without noting it.

That is stealing the mangaka's property and is considered illegal. It is Mashima's words whether you like it or not and it is a fact.

Laxus needed assistance from Yuriy to cast Red Lightning. It was inherited.

Gray used Zeroth Destruction Fist to beat Invel, he obtained DeS from his dad, Gray had far more help from Silver than Laxus had from Yuri. Dont know why you are arguing about something so stupid anyway, characters win with the power they have, dont matter where they got it from, whether it be from a powerful bloodline or just from their dad, as long as it is their power now

.
Laugh but is the truth
No, it isnt, the Chronos in Fairy Tail isnt necessarily the same Chronos from myths, in fact we know it isnt, cause the Chronos from myths isnt a god.
The War God you said was stronger than Acno got one shotted by Natsu, he isnt even close to GMG Dragon Level, let alone Acno's level.

Gray needed DeS to be on par with Natsu and Laxus.

Since the beginning of the series, Natsu and Laxus were privileged to be born a dragon slayer.

Natsu was born a natural dragon slayer while Laxus had a dragon lacrima installed in him.

Gray grew up as a regular human being.

So him kicking ass on Natsu's and Laxus' level is more impressive and a better feat than both of them.

Gray receiving DeS from his father (who he beat and earned), did nothing but put Gray on equal footing with Laxus and Natsu.

Gray deserved every power-up he got because he worked and trained for it.

Natsu and Laxus did nothing to receive their slayer attribute, it was given to them on a golden platter.

Don't you guys realize Dimaria could turn back time around when war started and could change history this is why is powerful time magic. Gods are above humans level power.Dude, we saw one war god who was ten time stronger Acnologia just look the size it's like big as Galactus. Being stronger doesn't mean can beat all characters. What am telling is the truth , i believe there characters powerful than 12 spriggans because the manga is not over yet.We need to see country like Bosco , Seven ,Pergrande King(this country is bigger then Alvarez empire) , other war gods , devils , gods..ect slayers.
Turning back time isn't within Dimaria's known powers.

The war god Ikusatsunagi wasn't above Acnologia. That god was destroyed by Natsu, whom was several times weaker than Acnologia.

All those countries you mentioned are part of the continent of Ishgar, of which Serena was the strongest of prior to the X791-792 timeskip.

Anything in the manga is owned by Hiro.

Most of the text in the manga aren't directly written by Hiro himself either.

He has assistants and such to help him create the plot and conversation.

So you'd be denying a lot of the content in the manga if you are going strictly by "Mashima's writing".

Again, the statement regarding Laxus having assistance from Yuriy during his battle with Wahl is a fact.

If you don't accept that as a fact, then manga scans will no longer be used to prove feats.
If you look at the official CR translation not a single word of Editor's note is present there.Editors do this to hype.

It still goes through by the author of the manga. Whatever is written in the scans that is not noted is considered a fact.

Official CR translation might not have it, idk, but an editor can't post his/her own text without the approval of the mangaka.

Ridiculous, having Dragon Lacrima or a Dragon Dad to teach you the magic doesnt automatically make you strong, you have to work to obtain the strength, look at Sting and Rogue, they have BOTH the Dragon Lacrima and the Dragon dads to teach them and they arent anywhere near Natsu or Laxus' level, having these things mean nothing without the wizard being capable of obtaining the strength themselves.
Uhuh, Natsu and Laxus worked and trained for their power too, and from the looks of it they were training harder than Gray was, dedicating the entire previous year to getting stronger, saying that Gray "deserved" his power more than anyone else is absurd.

How did Gray get more help from Silver compared to Laxus? Devil Slaying Magic was given to him back in Tartaros as a result of Silver transferring his MP to Gray. It has been a year since that happened and Gray had to train to keep that power. As far as I'm concerned, Gray defeated Invel on his own.

I agree that Laxus didn't literally get help from Yury. But you can't deny that he gained power from thinking about Yury. It was a PoF moment and that is not debatable.

Also, saying Laxus trained harder than Gray is a baseless assumption.

So if i take it right so should we consider this statement also to be true,"Bluenote the man who went toe and toe with Gildarts".This is also editors comment.

Having a slayer attribute by default gives you advantage. Their magic is naturally stronger.

Sting and Rogue are weak because they didn't train. You have to train to enhance your magic.

Natsu and Laxus trained just as much as Gray did throughout the whole series. But they had the advantage since they were slayers.

Gray receiving Devil Slayer Magic from his father put him on equal terms with Laxus and Natsu.

So him using Destuction Fist is fair game.

No, that's true, he went toe to toe. I never denied that.

I've always said that Bluenote went toe to toe with Gildartz because Gildartz never went all out.

However, Bluenote is not on par with Gildartz since Gildartz oneshotted him when he meant to finish the job.

Because Laxus gaining power from Yuri is too abstract, and mostly speculation, Gray gaining power from Silver is clear cut.
Yes, Red Lightning was PoF, so was Zeroth Destruction Fist, and everything else Gray did in the second half of his fight with Invel.
Yes Gray made the power his own, i agree, and said as much in my comment.

Uhuh, Destruction Fist is fair game, but Red Lightning isnt? Just cause you dont want it to be right? Never mind the fact that Yuri is long dead and couldnt have given Laxus any sort of power, never mind the fact that we know Laxus had to train to use that spell cause he had never used it before, never mind the fact that Yuri never actually used Red Lightning.
if any thing is "unfair" it is Destruction Fist, Gray had to rely on his good luck for running into the only ice spriggan so that he could use spriggan power to fuel that specific spell.

How did the Invel fuel Ice Devil Zeroth Destruction Fist?

It enhanced the spell, but it didn't fuel it.

And that's honestly Invel's own fault for using his divine ice against another ice mage.

Gray was just using common sense and transferred the magic instead of letting himself get frozen and basically committing suicide.

Not going to argue about the whole Red Lightning thing anymore because I don't think our opinions about it differ enough to warrant it, but I do have some issue with what you're saying here.

Slayer magic isn't necessarily a direct upgrade over other type of magic. All kinds of magic have their own strengths and weaknesses. Fire and Lightning Slayer magic is impressive because it gives the user a certain immunity and is very powerful offensively, but that's all it's limited to. It is a purely offensive magic and it has very little application apart from that. Ice Make, while maybe not as powerful as Natsu and Laxus's magic, is much more versatile and can be used for a lot more things. So I don't think it's fair to state that Natsu's and Laxus's magic are outright superior to Gray's. They may be stronger offensively but they are severely limited in their applications, unlike Ice Make.

I agree that Ice Make does give Gray some versatility. But when it comes to damaging your opponent, the power of your magic is what matters.

Note, against Invel, Gray didn't use "Ice Make: Ice Devil Zeroth Destruction Fist".

If Gray combined Ice Make with Ice Devil Slaying Magic, then I would completely agree with you and say that Gray received a double power up compared to Natsu and Laxus.

But Gray only used Ice Devil Slaying Magic there.

That means, even without Ice Make, he would have still beat his opponent (Invel) just the same.

Right......then Gildarts being the strongest person the FT guild is also an exagguration, and Yuri literally helping Laxus out would also be an exagguration as well, Yuri "helped" Laxus against Wahl about as much as Silver helped Gray against Invel. You really cannot bend this your way here.

It's just that the readers don't know the meaning of literary and artistic techniques.
I am sorry if I am being really forward here but this really is a load of crap dude. This has got about 0% to do with artistic techniques, we aren't discussing hiros drawings skills here.

In this case, it goes through and by Mashima, so it is a fact.
You got it wrong. Mashimas work goes through THEM, and then once THEY are done with it they send it over to Jump. Thats what it means to be an editor. I don't know if you know this, but on multiple occasions the editors notes have went against what happened in the manga, such as when is said:

Yet we all know it didn't end up doing jack shit. Or:

Yet we all know the three dragons ended up getting stomped the very time they were shown fighting. And how about:

Really!? I could have sworn it wasn't all to defeat Mard, but END and Zeref. Are you seriously trying to tell me that these editor notes that clearly have no idea what the author is trying to do in the very next chapter (let alone the end goals) are canon?

Yes, it is Invel's fault, which just makes it less impressive for Gray, the fact that he had the option of transferring the ice in the first place just makes him luckier that he got to fight Invel of all spriggans.

Then I guess we disagree on this.

Nobody can put their own words into somebody's work without approval. By law, that is illegal.

With all of your panels you posted, again I don't see anything wrong with it. It's meant to be hype and suspense, which is a literary and artistic technique.

By artistic, I don't mean the actual drawing, I'm talking about it from an artistic point of view.

Readers should be able to get that, which is what it is intended for. It's a piece of literature. It's stuff that people like Shakespeare does.

Gray was already cracking Invel's face in base form before he used that spell. Destruction Fist was just icing on the cake.

Gray would have defeated him eventually, so it's still impressive.

Intelligence is also a key factor in battle, so Gray's overall combat ability is impressive.

Gray landed a good punch sure.
If it wasnt for Ice Transfer and Ice immunity Gray would have died the moment Invel caught his punch, so no, Destruction Fist was Gray's salvation, pretty much the same thing as with Erza vs Azir and Gajeel vs Bradman, Gray was saved the last minute, just like Erza and Gajeel
