Mortal Kombat would be my hands down favorite if it was just including the first installments in the series, but after Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (my FAVORITE fighting game) the series went downhill, to the point where it's now a shadow of its former self
I kinda disagree there Leon. I think MK: Deadly Alliance and MK: Deception were both fantastic. They put so much work in detailing all the characters' backgrounds and fighting styles and history. As well as give you a LOT of stuff to work towards in the Krypt - making the whole sometimes tedious cycle of fighting in the Arena mode feel more worthwhile and enjoyable. I even liked the RPG aspects of both games as they helped you get familiar with all the MK characters and make it an adventure at the same time. (Though there definitely were flaws.)

MK: Armageddon, while still occasionally fun, wasn't as enjoyable, though. That game was pretty much just making all the MK characters ever available to play as, nothing else. They cut down the styles to only one style and one weapon style, instead of three from MK: Deception. To boot, the fighting styles aren't as interesting anymore (unless this is the first MK game you played, anyway) and it was only fun to fight as a few select characters like Rain that hadn't been in the past two games, but there was really nothing in it that kept you wanting to play it. And the worst part is that there wasn't much of a Krypt anymore - not much hidden content to work towards anymore. For me, that's the only game so far that's indicated that the series has started going downhill.

But I love all the games before Armageddon, and that's definitely a lot, so that's enough for me to say it's my favorite fighting series.

Tekken 3 (for me, is the best of the Tekken series)
King of Fighters 97 (aaaah, I've spent so much time on this...)

The whole King of Fighters series (but I hate the 3D version).
97, 98 were so much fun....the new ones are good too, but nothing beats 97 (L)

SNK vs Capcom gave me lots of good times too, hehe.

I´m starting to get into Guilty Gear. ;p

What´s so good about Soul Calibur? I played it, but haven´t had any fun :( Maybe i just don´t know how to play. ;p

And I'd like some more information on Soul Calibur myself. What makes it so good?

I'm surprised at the lack of Street fighting i'm seeing, i thought everybody loved street fighter, to me it's a classic and will always be one of my most favourite fighting games of all time. I remember having the really old one on the sega 16-bit, with e-honda, haha good times XD

I only played the MK: DA and MK: armageddon (never played deception) and that one REALLY REALLY bad one that came out for GBA (I musta locked that memory in a cold dark corner of my mind....it was bad :( ) and none of them really seemed to stand out to me. It's not necessarily that they were bad, more like I felt that there were better choices out there when it came to fighting games (like virtua fighter or tekken) whereas with the older MK's I felt they were the most fun.

I liked the first Street Fighter II game, but after that it just never seemed to evolve much. I enjoy the SF comics more than I do Mortal Kombat comics, though.

Hmm. Maybe I do need to try these Virtua Fighter and Tekken games sometimes and compare for myself.

Ah yeah, true that, it's a bit repetitive, although i guess that's the trend with most fighting games, unless they introduce a totally new way of gameplay, it stays the same, which can be bad and/or good depending on the style you like, haha XD.
I've nevvvvver seen the SF comics, are they goooood ? =]
I like the storyline and i wouldn't mind reading them !

I've played quite a few tekkens and i'm not very much of a fan, to me there's nothing you can really do, maybe apart from super awesome combos, but i'm not taht great at it, so maybe that's why ^^;

Thats what I'm saying, Street Fighter hands down the best fighting series ever. After SF it has to be Tekken.

I also think the Soul Blade/Caliber couldve been a hit, but lack storyline and character balance.

My favorite are the Super Smash Bros series ( looking foward to super smash bros brawl ). The reason why i like this series is that its different than the other fighting games plus i can fight other characters that are from other games, now isnt that just awesome?

Street Fighter. For Streetfighter 2 alone, before we even talk about the rest of the series

The first fighting game I ever played was the TMNT tournament Fighting on Nintendo's NES , and that was long-long ago.
My favorite series of all time will always be Tekken, or may be the smackdown vs raw series.

my favorite fighting game series is Tekken. of course there are other fighting games i like such as SSBM,Street Fighter, and such but

in my view Tekken seems to be the only fighting game that i see as to most balanced and improves greatly in each time it releases except for Tekken 4; i really think this one just failed... they tried to pull off some weird stuff; luckily from Tekken 5 they went back to their original fighting style. again it's just my point of view
