Alright, for you @Coné. :derp Let's see if you can persuade me, cuz I know you can't. The logic behind this fight is in my domain. :hee

Time period: Current

Restrictions: PoF, Nakama Power, PiS, CiS, Hype, Iced Shell (otherwise itd be tied)

Location: Ruins of Tartaros Battlefield

Starting Distance: 130 m. (that way there is no insta knife stabbing or some crap lol)

Everything else is fair game.

Alright here is my take on this fight:

Gray Fullbuster wins easy-mid diff at most.

With Ice Devil Slaying Magic, there is no way I can see Gajeel even come close to winning this. Already by sheer power and intelligence, Gray wins against Gajeel. Not to mention, Gray has revealed that he has a secret technique of his own, like Natsu.

Does Gajeel have Steel Dragon spells?

Regardless of this, Gajeel wins because he has better combat speed in ISD mode and his hand to hand battle and durability are better than Gray's.

You restricted hype, yet you're using that as an argument :cookiestare

That isn't hype. I didn't say how strong the spell was. I just flat out said he has a secret technique which is fact..

Sure, idc, Gajeel can have any Steel Dragon spells. He still loses, cuz Gray can insta freeze Gajeel.

I would say Gray's combat speed and agility is superior to Gajeel. Gajeel is only fast in his ISD mode, but he cant hit Gray like that. The moment Gajeel is out of shadow form, Gray is superior in combat speed and can hit Gajeel in a split second.

Sure Gajeel has better durability cuz of his nature, but Gray has far superior intelligence. To the point Gajeel would lose. Gray also has Ice Devil Zeroth Blade and Ice Devil Zeroth Destructive Bow, both of which can cause severe damage to Gajeel.

Gajeel has ISD Roar, but Gray has the equivalent of IDeS Rage (which is basically a roar). Gajeel has nothing there.

Plus, knowing Gajeel, hed probably be all geehee and fall for one of Gray's trap with his clones, courtesy of Gray's intelligence.

You can't use it on a versus thread though.
Sure, idc, Gajeel can have any Steel Dragon spells. He still loses, cuz Gray can insta freeze Gajeel.
Instafreezing falls under NLF. The strongest character Gray has ever instafrozen was Goumon, who's vastly weaker than Gajeel, meaning that instafreeze won't work on Gajeel until shown otherwise.
I would say Gray's combat speed and agility is superior to Gajeel. In his ISD mode, he is only fast in shadow form, but he cant hit Gray like that. Once he is out of shadow form, Gray is superior.
ISD Gajeel is faster than Gray, so he can hit Gray. Why do you think he would be unable to hit him?

Ice Devil Zeroth Blade and Bow are featless since their only use was on demons and there's no proof that IDSM's effectivity on demons is the same as on humans.
Gajeel has ISD Roar, but Gray has the equivalent of IDeS Rage (which is basically a roar). Gajeel has nothing there.
I agree on the ISD Roar being as strong as the IDeS Roar, but with Steel Mode, Gajeel one-shotted Etherious Torafuza, whose defense is as strong as Mard's according to the character cards.
Plus, knowing Gajeel, hed probably be all geehee and fall for one of Gray's trap with his clones, courtesy of Gray's intelligence.
So ISD Gajeel falls for a trap. How's Gray surpassing Gajeel's intangibility and/or durability?

Gajeel takes this handily.

IDSM is featless on humans and Gajeel just has better stats all around.

I don't know why people think that just because Gray got a new magic, means that he's so much stronger than before when he's failed to prove otherwise.

Gray acquired Ice DEVIL Slayer magic, which is super effective on DEVILS/DEMONS. Not HUMANS.

Well until proven otherwise, Gray still has Ice Make level damage on humans with IDSM, and that's only fair.

I'll give this to Gajeel for now. He has his dual mode and also very possibly has Dragon force. Well depending on arguments, if Gajeel can use DF, it would be a slightly difficult battle with Gajeel winning. If he doesn't (or can't) then it'd be a very tough fight but Gajeel would win. Gajeel's combat skills should be superior to Gray's and his dual slayer mode gives him an advantage. With his dual slayer mode though, he'd win imo.
Gray is certainly more creative and tactical which would serve to make this battle a lot harder but not enough.
As for Gray's DeS magic, it's not that relevant because Gajeel isn't a demon. At Tartarus, Gray didn't automatically become immensely superior to the other FT mages, he just acquired magic that was incredibly useful against demons. Just touching or coming into contact with the ice is harmful to demons but that's not the case with humans. Gajeel is also a slayer himself and has been one far longer than Gray. I think they're fairly equal normally, but the IS mode is an advantage and there's also the possibility of DF. Tough battle but Gajeel would take this imo. If they fought 5 times, I think it'd be 3 - 2 in Gajeel's favor. He's just barely above Gray. There's also Gray's 'secret' weapon but that's unknown and can't be considered here.

Idk what you mean, IDeS is effective on anything just like dragon slayer magic, not just on demons. Gray was pretty effective on all the members of Avatar.

Not to mention, Gray was effective against Ajeel and his sand creations. So far, with IDeS, Gray has shown nothing but effectiveness regardless of his opponents. And to be honest, his effectiveness is extremely consistent. Demons have nothing to do with it.

Gajeel did no one shot Torafuza. It is the exact opposite and he had help from Levy. While Gajeel got some sort of regeneration, Torafuza was being constantly exhausted. You hardly comparing fairly.

Lol Ice Devil Zeroth Blade and Ice Devil Zeroth Destructive Bow aren't featless, they have proven themselves. The demons exaggerate the pain, but it's obvious that the spells are strong in themselves.

Gajeel falling for the ice clones is a big deal cuz it give Gray the opportunity to freeze Gajeel or hit him with destructive bow, seven slice dance, etc.

Ok, since many of you are saying this, I'm going to explain something, I didn't realize this many people thought the same thing:

My major thing here is this-

"Well Gray's magic is ONLY effective against demons, not humans"

Like really?

First, Gray has used his magic against a couple of other opponents-

Avatar members

Fine say they are weak to begin with, I agree.

Ajeel

Ok now this guy is a freakin Spriggan. No excuses here. You guys were praising the Spriggans a second ago, so go ahead and do it now.

Gray performed extremely well against Ajeel. He ice instantly froze a large area of land including Ajeel's sand creations. Gray created a new technique and was able to disrupt Ajeel's movement towards them for a bit.

Now, Ajeel ain't no demon and is Spriggan level. So the effectiveness is the same, I don't see any difference.

I have never heard of this many complaints about that when Dragon slayers, God slayers, and HELL even Silver when they were first introduced.

What is the difference between all of them, why is Gray THE ONLY ONE EXCLUDED? I seriously sense bias here.

Even in the Acnologia vs Igneel thread, I mentioned it and everybody brushed it aside.

Look, if you give one person treatment, you give the rest the same treatments.

That means:

Natsu, Gajeel, Wendy, Laxus, Cobra, Sting, Rogue, Future Rogue, Zancrow, Orga, Chelia, and Silver.

All of these are slayer types yet I never hear:

"These guys are only effective against dragons/gods/demons, not against HUMANS"

Uhh excuse me, all of these guys have mostly fought humans. Most of the dragon slayers have. All of the God slayers have. SILVER has.

And all of these guys are quite effective against humans, what makes you think Gray is not?

All slayers are supposed to be stronger than ordinary magic types. GEEZ!!

Idk what you mean, IDeS is effective on anything just like dragon slayer magic, not just on demons. Gray was pretty effective on all the members of Avatar.
Besides demons, Gray has only used IDeS on fodder. How do you honestly think I'm supposed to confirm that it's as effective on humans as it is on demons if it has never defeated more than fodder? Those very same members were also easily defeated by the likes of Lucy and Wendy.
Dragon Slayer Magic works differently from DeS. Dragons aren't affected by normal magic (proved on the GMG arc), thus DSM is the only one that affects them. Even Laxus could only scratch a dragon, so they're clearly different. Besides, do you really think that IDeS Gray is a small city buster?

Not to mention, Gray was effective against Ajeel and his sand creations. So far, with IDeS, Gray has shown nothing but effectiveness regardless of his opponents. And to be honest, his effectiveness is extremely consistent. Demons have nothing to do with it.
He was effective against sand creations. Said sand creations were also destroyed by Lucy. Point? It wasn't nearly as effective with Ajeel as it was with Mard, because Ajeel easily broke out of the ice. I think it's clear that after absorbing curses and managing to damage a demon who easily tanked a DF Secret Art, IDeS has much more effect on demons than on humans.
Gajeel did no one shot Torafuza. It is the exact opposite and he had help from Levy. While Gajeel got some sort of regeneration, Torafuza was being constantly exhausted. You hardly comparing fairly.
Steel Mode Gajeel did one-shot Torafuza. Not Gajeel in the whole fight, but Steel Mode Gajeel. While ISD Gajeel couldn't even scratch Etherious Torafusa, Steel Mode Gajeel took him in one hit. You might say that Torafuza was tired, but this isn't a question of durability or stamina. It's purely defense and Steel Mode Gajeel managed to bypass Torafuza's defense in just one hit.
Lol Ice Devil Zeroth Blade and Ice Devil Zeroth Destructive Bow aren't featless, they have proven themselves. The demons exaggerate the pain, but it's obvious that the spells are strong in themselves.
How do you want me to confirm that they'll have the same effect on humans as they had on demons? I've already explained why IDeS has much more effect on demons, and until it's shown otherwise, those two attacks will remain featless for humans and unusable on this thread.

Gajeel falling for the ice clines is a big deal cuz it give Gray the opportunity to freeze Gajeel or hit him with destructive bow, seven slice dance, etc
I repeat, the strongest character Gray's ever instafrozen solid was Goumon, so freezing won't be acceptable. Destructive Bow is featless on humans and thus it can't be used as a very damaging attack. I still want to see how Gray's bypassing ISD Gajeel's intangibility.

Prove that IDSM is just as effective on humans as it was on demons. Right, you can't because Gray doesn't have any feats on humans with his newly acquired magic. You're just giving Gray the benefit of the doubt that he can do the same damage output on humans, which he has yet to prove.

Also freezing fodder =/= freezing Gajeel. Until Gray freezes someone shut that ain't fodder, then he's not freezing anyone that ain't fodder. Again, you're just giving him the benefit of the doubt here that he'll be able to just freeze people and GG. Nah man, that's not how it works.

Lol.

And Dragon Slayer Magic =/= Ice Devil Slayer Magic. So don't even try to justify why Ice Devil Slayer Magic would be just as effective on humans when Dragon Slayer Magic couldn't even scratch the very thing it's supposedly effective against. Hence, these 2 magics differ from one another, clearly.

When Gray gets feats on humans in the nearby future, then we'll be able to judge what his damage output is.

Shadow control with his raw power is a great combo to knockout Gray.

Ok first, when you ask me a question, plz let me answer it cuz you don't know me. xD :cheez

And second, you are wrong, I can prove everything to you, that's why you don't answer your question for me let alone answer your own question. :derp

Now thank you, but.....

No! No!!! No!!!! NO!!!!!

Explain why I have to prove everything??!!:mad:devil-mad:mad:devil-mad

Ok jk, but seriously, why do I have to prove that IDeS is effective on humans?

Al the other slayers didn't get that treatment or requirement. So why should I give it to you?

But fine, I'll give it to you, but after that, no more proof.

Silver was quite effective on Natsu when he insta-froze him. He was also extremely effective against Gray. THERE OK IM DONE.

And if anybody here gives me the pitiful excuse "But Gray is a lot less experienced than Silver" statement, I'm seriously done.

No, slayer magic are all the same. They are super effective to their types and just plain effective to any other human.

Gray doesn't need to instafreeze Gajeel to beat him. That'd be going overboard. Gray has plenty of AoE and burst attacks or blasts that Gajeel simply can't keep up with.

Gajeel isn't even durable if he was beaten by Yamazu and Kawazu, the only two geeks hanging around GH.

Silver > Torafuza

Gray beat Silver 1v1.

Gajeel lost against Torafuza 1v1.

Gajeel needed Levy to give him air which is unfair cuz Torafuza didn't have Lamy to give him air. Torafuza was exhausted and his black water spell was wasted since Levy gave Gajeel the air.

All the other slayers had most of their feats on humans, so there's no need for clarifications.

1 - Silver's feats can't be scaled to Gray
2 - IDeS's effectiveness against Gray was no where near the effectiveness it had on demons. If that was the case, then Gray would have been one-shotted.

I won't give you that argument, I'll give you the one on 1. Silver was considerably stronger than Gray and all feats back this up.

@Bold - So does Gajeel. Besides, you're forgetting ISD Gajeel's intangibility and superior combat speed

Tenrou Gajeel =/= Tartaros Gajeel

Gray vs Silver was PiS. Nothing else has to be said. And A > B > C isn't accurate at all. You could make a case for Silver beating Mard. Does that mean that Silver would beat Gildarts because Mard > Gildarts? Just a sample of how inaccurate that can be. These two points destroy that whole argument. Besides, Torafuza's curse is haxed and Steel Mode Gajeel was considerable stronger than Torafuza, so that further destroys your argument.

So we don't give him the benefit of the doubt? Do you know how ridiculous it sounds going around saying "Gray has the same damage output on humans as he does on demons"?

Do you know how overpowered he'd be? :cookiestare

Silver was quite effective on Natsu when he insta-froze him. He was also extremely effective against Gray. THERE OK IM DONE.
People always seem to use this argument, but it doesn't work.

Silver =/= Gray. Silver transferred his magic to Gray, not his feats.

Franmalth absorbed Hades' soul and got his powers. Now does that mean Franmalth = Hades? Nah. :s

No, slayer magic are all the same. They are super effective to their types and just plain effective to any other human.
The 7 DS couldn't even tickle the GMG dragons. Meanwhile you had Gray being super effective on demons. See the inconsistency? Judging off that, both magics clearly don't have the same properties.

Gray doesn't need to instafreeze Gajeel to beat him. That'd be going overboard. Gray has plenty of AoE and burst attacks or blasts that Gajeel simply can't keep up with.
Gajeel is faster, more durable, has more endurance and has intangibility. Yeaaaaaah. :nunoderp

Gajeel isn't even durable if he was beaten by Yamazu and Kawazu, the only two geeks hanging around GH.
>Using Tenrou Gajeel.

Gray was struggling against fodder dragon hatch-lings? Point?

Silver > Torafuza
Silver > Torafusa only because Silver has an advantage over Torafusa with his magic. Take that away and Silver is losing hard.

Gray beat Silver 1v1.
Not that great of an accomplishment since Silver was holding back. You realize Silver could've one-shotted Gray whenever it tickled his fancy? :cookiestare

Gajeel lost against Torafuza 1v1.
Hmm. When's the last time you read FT?

Gajeel needed Levy to give him air which is unfair cuz Torafuza didn't have Lamy to give him air. Torafuza was exhausted and his black water spell was wasted since Levy gave Gajeel the air.
Torafusa didn't even need air. :epicfacepalm

Just because the way Gajeel won was somewhat lucky, doesn't mean his feats all of a sudden disappear.

I know you said current timeline but we haven't seen current feats from either of them in the Alvarez Arc, so I'm going to disregard it and use the Tartaros Arc or Avatar Arc instead. Avatar Arc is probably the most recent but up to you guys. I hope we can deviate from the Alvarez Arc or you will are just spout a bunch of nonsense. We haven't even seen 2 attacks from either of them let alone being able to tell their current stats. If you still insist on Alvarez Arc, I can delete my post if you want me to. Honestly, I think Gray wins this. Difficulty? High Difficulty. Extreme Difficulty? Maybe.

Note that because I'm using Tartaros/Avatar Arc, that means Gajeel has no Dragon Force. Also, because hype is restricted, we cannot even come close to using that idea.

Like Vasgoko stated, Devil Slaying Magic does have benefits in battle. Don't tell me that it only restricts to demons. That is the biased opinion that I have read so many times in which you guys have implanted into your brain from the start just to underestimate Gray. Am I positive? About 99%. Reason? Dragon Slaying Magic and God Slaying Magic proves to be effective on other beings besides Dragons and Gods respectively. The 7 Dragon Slayers have used Dragon Slaying Magic on each other and opponents which was effective. Were those opponents dragons? No. Zancrow, Orga, and Chelia have used God Slaying Magic against their adversaries. Were they gods? No. Therefore, Devil Slaying Magic is essentially the same. It still gives the user a boost in their stats, with the exception of being "super effective" which is only proven on demons.

Also, just think about it. If it only affects demons, why did Gray think about using it in Avatar and Alvarez against Ajeel. Because it makes him stronger.

Anyways, Gray and Gajeel have similar Damage Output unless you can clearly explain to me the difference with actual proof and no nonsense.

In terms of durability, they are the same as well. Gray lost to Bickslow in the Battle of Fairy Tail Arc, but even though it is plot induced, I will still give Gajeel the upper hand on this one. However, Gajeel lost to Kawazu and Yomazu without the help of Levy whom we know are weak and not on the same level of the 7 Kin of Purgatory in which Gray faced Ultear [A Much Noteworthy Opponent] and beat her; therefore, I give Gray the upper hand here. So what are the results? Pretty much the same.

In speed? Gajeel. But Gray can stop high speeds as seen with Gray vs. Racer. But this is not real hardcore proof. Gray is also fast if he freezes the ground and slides but this is just a thought and not really evidence. Therefore, Gajeel can take this.

Intelligence? Gray. Gajeel was portrayed to be just as dumb as Natsu and never showed any useful thinking. It is just his personality. Plus, it was joked that he was dumb when he was able to communicate with Natsu after being critically injured due to their fight with Laxus which is also in the Battle of Fairy Tail Arc.

Conditions? Gray probably can withstand the cold better than Gajeel because although both are usually neutral when it comes to weather, it is cold in Tartaros Battlefield, so Gray will feel nothing while Gajeel will feel chilly. This won't affect much though.

Steel vs. Ice? Could go either way. Sure, metal breaks ice. But at extreme temperatures, ice can destroy metal. Think about sticking an object into dry ice. It is vulnerable and can break easily. Now, to replenish energy, Gajeel can eat the metal surrounding him but Gray can also eat his own ice which is seen to be specifically for Ice Devil Slayers when Silver did it.

So this basically comes down to Intelligence vs. Speed. Which wins? I'd say intelligence. Why? Because speed is not that effective unless you are talking about combat speed which both are pretty much the same until proven otherwise. Agility is only useful if you're planning to run away from the fight. Intelligence on the other hand, would help you in a battle as it can easily turn tables around which is seen in Erza vs. Midnight.

Not to mention, Gray can insta-freeze which is fast and can catch up to Shadow Gajeel anyday.

Again, why can Gray insta-freeze when he hasn't even froze anyone that's not fodder? Ghee, I guess Gray can freeze Zeref and Acnologia too because why not right?
:epicfacepalm

Until Gray shows IDSM feats on humans, he's Ice Make level on them.

Just cause he hasn't froze someone noteworthy, doesn't mean he can't... That's faulty logic. Then tell me, why doesn't Makarov and Laxus make a duo tag-team and spam Fairy Law on Zeref or Acnologia over and over again... Hiro Mashima doesn't make it that easy or we will get bored of it. But push come to shove, it does not mean Gray doesn't have the capability to do it.

Either way, like I said, even without insta-freeze, Gray seems to still have the upper hand by a little bit. See if you can counter me there.

With Midnight, he had real weaknesses that Erza had to exploit in order to hit him. Once you got past the refraction, Midnight was easy to take out because he didn't really have high durability. Midnight also wasn't very skilled with hand to hand combat. With Gajeel, it's a whole different game. Gajeel is not interested in using hax-like abilities to shut you down. He'll brawl with you if he needs to. Gajeel's ISD provides the distinct advantage of being intangible. That provides a real advantage against physical attacks. He can hide in his opponents shadows, and launch more sneak attacks. There's also a speed advantage on top of that. Gajeel's specialty is close quarters combat, and with shadow's speed and intangibility, he can pretty much guarantee to be able to close the gap. Although stuff like intangibility or being able to hide in your opponents shadows are as important important as the basics (power, speed, and durability), they are still real physical advantages.

Unless you have an insane advantage on speed, getting hit is pretty much an inevitability of combat. With or without shadow mode, Gajeel is landing hits on Gray, and vice-versa. For example, Gajeel landed hits against Laxus when they fought. To suggest that Gray can go about the entire fight against Gajeel without getting hit once is silly. The same is true for the reverse. Shadow body isn't going to magically allow Gajeel to dodge all of Gray's attacks. It might help against some of the more telegraphed ice-make: spells, but in hand to hand combat punches are going to slip through. The only scenario in which no shots can be landed due to speed are in situations where one guy vastly outpaces the other, like with Natsu and Jellal. Gray and Gajeel? Not so much.

There's no guarantee that Fairy Law would even work on Acnologia or Zeref. And that's just it! Nobody is saying that they even can. It's a pretty silly assumption to make. Similarly, there's no guarantee that Gray's instant-freeze would work against a fully resistant opponent on the level of Gajeel. Sure, it's not an impossibility, but that's all we have to have to go on. One obvious objection to the instant-freeze is that...can Gray freeze Gajeel whilst in his shadow form?

I'm actually very split on this fight. 90% of the time I will put my cards with the side that demonstrates superior power, speed, and durability. Those are pretty much the basic factors that are essential to a fight. The other 10% of the times are with seriously haxed abilities (think Franmalth's magic absorption) or other special conditions. Stuff like shadows or instant-freeze doesn't do it for me, and neither side have really persuaded me on the basic 3.

I don't think you understand RS difference. Not that Gray's DeS magic is weak or ineffective against Humans, it's just that it's a lot more effective against demons. The context in which you're thinking of how powerful DeS magic is refers to his battle in Tartarus where he seemed incredibly OP, however, it's because the magic is specifically for slaying demons that he looks so powerful. Think of DS in GMG. You had the likes of Wendy, Sting, rogue etc successfully attack dragons while those like kagura, Makarov etc were helpless. If you level the playing field, the former lose the advantage and it's apparent the latter are more powerful. So Gray's DeS magic isn't going to be any more powerful than Gajeel's DS magic and then Gajeel has his dual Iron Shadow mode to give him an advantage.

Also, you say silver>torafuse but there's honestly no proof of that. silver was a DeS user. That already gives him an advantage over every Etherious. The only one he would've probably lose to is Etherious Mard Geer but even though he could've beaten the others, we can't explicitly say it's because he was actually stronger than them. See if Gray didn't have DeS magic, he would've struggled against the demons like everyone else did.
