I definitely lost hope for this arc now... I don't know if it because of budget, or maybe the directors (yeah, because i've seen a report someday about the Naruto anime, where they said that every episode have the same budget, so the quality depends on the director).

But oh well, i'll still watch it in hope that they will do one or two good episodes at least.

What was the point of Hancock fantasizing about Luffy? 3 minutes of "honeymoon" fail. And I thought Oda made it clear that he didn't want the series to be a romantic novel...

Animation is not so good either. As Razh mentioned, Luffy's movements weren't even human. Mihawk does not cleanly slice the iceberg in half in the anime, it is jagged in certain places.

Want to know what the real problem is? Toei is doing one chapter (roughly 16 pages, not including the cover) per 20 minute episode each week and nothing more. They are eventually going to run to a standstill. This is why they added in the Mihawk VS Jinbei fight (at the same time treating Jinbei's fighting prowess against another Shichibukai like crap), 2 minutes of Luffy scared shitless for his life, and the 3 minute Hancock fantasy. The animation is also getting lax because Toei knows that they still have many more episodes (if they insist on the one chapter per episode format) of this war to go.

Even though the last thing I want for One Piece is the creation of filler, it is just as bad if the canon itself is paced down as hell. Fights are just not as good as they used to be. The anime is slowly but surely degenerating itself from the awesome epicness of the manga.

Wow I said 2 episodes ago if they could keep up that standard i would be pleased with the project but what a shame. Looks like they can't maintain a decent standard of animation for more than a few episodes. I usually don't directly complain but i don't think they can have an excuse for dropping the standard this far in the space of a few weeks.

all movements had about 2 sequences to them if you get what i mean, and wtf was up with mihawks jump, I'm pretty sure no human could jump that high.

Yes the pace is quite horrible. Seing hancock daydreaming again was really annoying. All the default of the manga arc (cameo fights mainly) are even worse here since they just drag and drag the manga content instead of giving him more substance.
The problem is they are only 30 chapters late wrt the manga whith no real possibilities of fillers while the crew is separated. Hence we are stuck with this 1 chapter 1 episode which is really unapropriate. Honnestly they should rather stop the anime for a few monthes rather than making these lame episodes

There were some positive and negative things in the episode.

But I liked most of it. Even though the war is hard to show. Sometimes, it looked like Ivankov and Kuma are alone on the battlefield.

But one thing for sure, Hancock is a must join for the straw hats.

She is just a perfect fit for joining the crew, oda even gave her a good sad childhood story.

Man...one Piece isnt about always serious. Even in war it gets funny sometimes.

I mean...if this thing should be completly serious...oda must have left buggy and invankov out of the whole war.

i love hancock in the manga but in the anime i hate her. her daydreams were fun at first but now they're really annoying. they just don't know when to stop.

i dont understand why people are so upset. lets not forget that all of chapters had multiple double spreads. if toei did it without fillers then the arc would be over in 10 episodes. i rather them add fillers in with the canon vs a huge filler arc after this battle.

the chapter was ok with me. i mean people are taking the smallest things to complain about. honestly watching the anime helps me understand somethings that i couldnt figure out while i was reading the manga.

I think that the episode was good until came the Hancock's dream which broke the rhythm : it had nothing to do in the middle of a battlefield. Mihawk's part was fine and Buggy's comments on the Muggy Ball before it exploded were great. I have to admit that it lacks some epic feelings. However, it was definitely not the worst episode of the war.

i agree, i think it is a tall order for toei to make this arc live up to the manga. there were so many great entrances and moments that it would be hard to make them all great while trying to add filler to make the episode 23 min

Wow, see alot of people complaining about an empty battle field......and while i agree that it does look empty.....I think the anime studio would go broke trying to anime a full battle field......

And although some of the fillers are totally outta place (boa's 2nd daydream about luffy, i didn't mind the 1st) I think I prefer getting these fillers rather than a 30 episode filler arc in the anime or you get a 3 week filler in the mist of the story line.


Well all in all...it wasn't a bad episode. I think the Mihawk vs Luffy was done ok except for the green slashes...but hey can't get everything perfect.

Did any of you guys actually love that Buggy joke? I didn't even get it. Must be a Japanese thing...

It's all badly directed. Fillers are fine, but what the fuck is going on in Japan? Can they not make a decent fighting sequence that wasn't in the manga any more? This pacing reminds me of fucking Bleach "Winter war". Even though the battlefield is heated, people have time have prolonged discussions and to daydream.

I know I didn't need a recap of the all the events in the battle. But maybe some people have bad memory in general. I'm sure they appreciate someone showing them what happened so far in the middle of the fucking battle.

I think I'm just gonna go watch Enies Lobby arc to remind myself how good it used to be.

It's all in the direction. You can create and atmosphere of filled battlefield even without animating hundreds of warriors. It's all in the perspective.

One would think the fights in anime would have been brought to amazing heights since the late 80s. I must admit that it's funny how original Dragon Ball still has some of the most awesomely directed and animated fighting sequences I've seen so far. Late 80s people.

The anime is too close to the manga. And there is no way to put "filler" arcs because the crew is not yet back together.

I don't know if it's the only reason why the pace seems so slow but still ... There is enough material in the war to show good fillers. For example, there were several intriguing devil fruits used during the war by minor characters (Tsuru, Onigumo, ...).

I think the best way to put it is ..... Nice Try.. It's not like the whole arc has been poorly presented.. But for sure there is a lot of liberty being taken here... Not nearly as much as some have made it seem, but enough. Earlier in the anime arc the fillers actually helped flesh out the war... But not so much.. A few good scenes but I'm left feeling......... Meh.

Wow, well this sure SUCKED !

Don't even know what to say except BORING BORING BORING !

Few things I found funny

1) When Mihawk "slashed" the ground. He just tapped the floor with his sword and sent a laser beam flying towards luffy. No swing or anything.
2) Boa fillers are just G-A-Y
3) Mihawk and Jimbei talking IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLEFIELD and there are zero marines/pirates in the background AND the cannons on top of the siege wall don't even shoot, they just spin.
4) Mihwak "cutting" the ice wall? More like cracking it.

And this is my favorite one

5) When Smoker notices Luffy run by, you can see Mihawk just trotting along behind Luffy. That was the funniest/most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

We are not against fillers, actually i'd love to see other characters fighting and stuff in this war, not breaking the mood with Hancok dreaming about marriage. I mean , this is a WAR. It is supposed to be chaotic, and intense, and right now, i don't see any of this. This is not the same feeling i had when i've read the chapters. In the manga, it was more intense, more chaotic, you could feel it was a war, you could feel it was a battle that gonna change the history in the OP world.

And the animation too, it is not well animated...

Woah don't get me wrong, i havn't got a problem with fillers, the buggy scenes back in Impeal Down was the best thing about the arc alltogether. I also don't care about the Hancock moments I can just skip them. Its how Ugly the animation is too look at, theres no fluency in the movements. Its like when luffy got hit he stayed in the same possition and just moved about 100 metres.

This is the worst type of animation for me and is why I prefered the sketchy animation in the impeal down arc. Atleast its nice too look at instead of watching paint dry.

I think its just seeing the quality progress so much from a bad start just makes it worse when its reverted back.
