I noticed Fullmetal alchemist, 666 satan, and soul eater were published in Gangan, but when they ended the authors moved to a different magazine. I wonder why, was it worse working for them then other magazines? Whatever happened Gangan screwed up losing those artists because they don't have anything notable right now.

The 666 Satan author also did Sukedachi 09 with Gangan so they did eventually go back. For FMA to Silver Spoon and Soul Eater to Fire Force they might have just wanted to do weekly instead of monthly and Gangan doesn't seem to have a weekly magazine.

As much as I hate to admit it, Jump+ currently has the best overall lineup followed by Ura Sunday then Magazine Pocket. We've seen a lot more quality releases from Jump+ as the platform matured, and it definitely has gotten better at appealing to more mainstream audience.

Ura Sunday has sort of its own thing going with lot of its series being pretty niche and a strong core audience. Magazine Pocket right now is definitely the weakest in terms of quality, with most of its lineup revolving around fanservice and/or gore. This could just be the fault of the platform being too young as we've seen similar trends in the early days of Jump+, so we'll see how it evolves moving forward.
I think I'd probably agree with that sentiment. Jump+ has had the longest time to work on fine-tuning the platform, and while sometimes the number of series I follow from there dips low, there's a pretty solid mix in there right now. I think with some more time, Magazine Plus will be able to grow some more, but I doubt it'll ever grow to the extent of Jump+. Ura Sunday is interesting since I really agree that it seems to do and publish whatever it wants, pretty similar to Weekly Shonen Sunday's overall philosophy. That's what makes the lineup interesting to me.

Was hoping Jigokuraku would rank again (and higher), since it was (tied for) 16th last year.

Unlike Manga Taisho, I am not really sure about the criteria for nominations of this ranking. I recalled dungeon meshi got four manga taisho nominations already.

Also talking about the upcoming manga taisho next year, I hope dungeon meshi will get nominated (to have the record for most nominations) and win. Next year is going to be the last for it to be nominated (having 8 or fewer volumes).

Kono manga ga sugoi seems to me to be commercially driven. i understand its a magazine and its publisher wants it to sell so it tends to put in the ranks popular/trending stuff. Jump in the top in magazines is natural if its manga are in the top male ranking but it laughable. It is also done by questionaries and book store employees do participate.

Taisho is similarly its awarded by a committee of book store employees - obvious economic interest involved. but because of the below 8 volume criteria there is some restriction.

I find Kono manga ga Yome to be much more interesting it has a similar methodology but it seems to have less pressure to put popular stuff.

As much as commercial driven it is, it is still a nice recommendation list to look for good stuff. I do think last year list have more obscure manga in it. The top manga for male last year was kinda obscure compare to this year Ishiguro is a god but I think most people know about SxF than any of his works :notlikethis

Also, just lurk for what from the male list got translated in English so far, going to do a similar one for female list soon.
Lmao, a salefag unable to comprehend that there is a committee exist to recommend interesting manga to the public instead of just listing the bestselling one. Wonder why you guys keep bite his bait.

Anyway, we are pretty lucky this year, 14 out of top 20 manga for male got translated in English to some degree:
Spy x Family: fully translated
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu: 22 chapters (almost 2 out of 2 volumes)
Chainsaw Man: fully translated
Kimetsu no Yaiba: fully translated
Skip to Loafer: 9 chapters (almost 2 out of 2 volumes)
Isekai Ojisan: 10 chapters (more than 1 out of 3 volumes)
Ride-on King: 13 chapters (almost 3 out of 3 volumes, got dropped but licensed soon)
Jijō o Shiranai Tenkōsei ga Guigui Kuru: 16 chapters (almost 1 out of 4 volumes)
The Fable: 36 chapters (4 out of 20 volumes)
Blue Period: 12 chapters (3 out of 6 volumes)
Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru: 32 chapters (more than 4 out of 4 volumes, pretty sure it is fully translated)
Ase to Sekken: 9 chapters (more than 1 out of 4 volumes, got dropped but licensed soon)
Dr. Stone: fully translated
Heterogeneous Linguistics: 19 chapters (2 out of 2 volumes)
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Number of manga from the female list that have English translation is much lower :notlikethis .

Sayonara miniskirt (part of its first chapter out of 2 voumes, licensed soon)
Mystery to Iunakare: 2 chapters (1 out of 5 volumes)
Ikoku Nikki: 13 chapters (more than 2 out of 5 volumes)
Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai: 15 chapters (almost 4 out of 4 volumes)
Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet: 61 chapters (almost 11 out of 14 volumes)
Kageki Shōjo! (only its first chapter)

Well, that's all in English so far. Maybe more stuffs got licensed or haven't been index in mangaupdates yet.

Hey everyone,

I already tried this subject once, without any success, therefore I try my luck once again.

I am not sure if this is the right place to discuss this topic but I am kind of interested of your opinion :
Did you read any french manga? And if you did, what did you think about it? As you may know, France has one of the biggest manga market, and a lot of french editors are starting to publish french authors.

I you did not read any, I can advice you to read Radiant, which also has an anime made by a japanes studio and the first season is now available on Netflix (I did not see it) and Dreamland (the art at the beginning is not the best but it improves a lot after view volumes).

I also would like to know if in your country you have some national authors that are making manga. :)

Akita Shoten's Princess GOLD shojo magazine is shutting down.
They have been operating since 1979, and switched from a paper-based bi-monthly release to a digital-only monthly release in 2018.

I like how this thread turn into "let's post manga news from magazines that don't have a thread".
