Holy crap, classy Gildarts. Well, we now know that in his off-time Gildarts is a wine taster and a pirate. Seems fitting, maybe that's why he's been with so many women.
I guess this answers the question of what he's been doing all this time. guess I'll change my vote to natsu now.
ahh what the heck he got nen on his arsenal now. he should be well above natsu. :XD

hasn't it always been the case in this manga, that they fight a stronger enemy but grow up during battle and are able to defeat them? So something like could well enable Erza or Gray to solo a spriggan.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
We haven't seen Gray's full powers yet, so it's a bit silly to assume it's impossible for him regardless of how much hype the spriggans get.
Gildartz most likely going to team up with Makarov, and hopefully someone that hasn't had a chance to fight yet, say Cobra.
Lets not forget Gray and Natsu shit their pants after sensing Brandish's magical power in the island.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
If i remember Happy said he never saw Gildarts so much angry before in his fight against Bluenote. So we assume that he was also serious.
This is like we have discussed so many times before. Gildart was really angry but he easily defeated Bluenote. So pretty sure he did not use full magical strength. He was down for a while only because he lost magic temporarily. After that it was one strike.
--- Double Post Merged, ---
I really don't understand what Mashima plans to do with Gildarts. On one hand he has always been shown to be at the top, but it's also shown that usually everyone specialises in one type pf magic but those at the top like August or Irene have mastery over varied types. Gildarts knows only one kind of magic that puts him in a inferior position to these guys.

Bluenote fought on equal grounds with him.So i don't think it was a easy fight for Gildarts.

Gildartz would've mid-diffed Bluenote, if he went all out from the start in summoning Empyream earlier.
Bluenote using magic imbued fists fought on par with Gildartz non-crash magic embued fists.
Gildartz>>Bluenote.

how long did it take to defeat bluenote after he got back his magic?

Also, in the silent chapter where Natsu meets Gildarts in the middle of gap year, it shows though Natsu became stronger, Gildart was still class above. After the gap Natsu defeats Blunote easily.

Hiro himself said that Bluenote went toe and toe against him.So do you think that it was an easy fight for Gildarts.

Natsu one shotted Bluenote only after an year training.During the silent chapter he was still no match for Bluenote.

Ok, I don't buy it, but I will give it to you. Its a bit different from saying Mashima himself stated it. Its stated in the manga as a line to create impact. I mean what else would be written. "the man who was easily defeated by Gildart!!" That would be pretty lame. But you are right, thats just my opinion.

Those aren't Hiro words but the words of the publisher of the WSM.
It's a marketing move to make the manga more cheesy.

Do you have any proof that it is not Hiro's.

If i say i made this statement in the manga will anyone believe me?So unless hard evidence we should not believe this.Especially when it is written in the manga.

I wonder if he will show up before the last chapter?

If he's that irrelevant, Hiro should've made him lose like gods of ishgar to give some s 12 hype.

I agree with what everyone else says. We as readers want to see Natsu, in this last stretch of Fairy Tail, to be a lot more powerful after his time-skip. So, the opponent is hyped.

I hate when people bring up Bluenote vs. Gildarts in a debate. It's like quoting wikipedia for an important school paper.

First of all, let's establish that Gildarts took out Bluenote in one named attack at the end.

1) When Bluenote was first introduced, we as readers had to know a) who is this guy b) what are his powers. Hiro wrote Gildarts to fight Bluenote in a small skirmish first, not because they were "equal in power" but as a writing point so that we'd know who the hell this guy was. Imagine how underwhelming it would be to see Bluenote get one-shotted off the bat -- it would be Natsu vs. "God" (Beast) of War underwhelming. This is analogous to Hades vs. Laxus. Hades was clearly above Laxus, but allowed Laxus to fight around a bit because that is what experienced fighters do. They do not underestimate a new enemy no matter who it is.

2) Hiro had to nerf Gildarts with that tenrou tree thing. Gildarts lost his magic and was stomped on for a good while, while laying there like a magikarp out of water. This was probably to prevent Gildarts from having a reason to show up to fight against Hades later - he'd be too exhausted from taking mortal blows (similar to Jellal being slashed by Erza's sword in mortal form in ToH) to get up.

3) When all is said and done, Gildarts destroyed Bluenote in one named attack. Crushing Evil Spread the Truth: Empyreon. The purpose of Natsu one-shotting bluenote was for us to see that Natsu (like Laxus and Jura) had entered Gildarts' level. This again can be backed up by the panel of Natsu and Gildarts' having their faces shown side by side as shown below:

So Gildarts was obviously very down-played for the sake of plot. He's been kept out of every arc simply because he can defeat the final boss (likely) and instead would be reduced to fighting fodder with Makarov to allow Natsu & co. to be relevant.

As for your "hiro stated this" thing, that was a department among the publishers, not Hiro himself, though I'm sure he himself did not care.

Most fights happens when the hero takes down his opponent with a single attack in the end.It doesn't mean he didn't have lot of troubles which he did.Bluenote fight is important because it showed Gildarts had trouble.Surely he dominated him but it was not decisive. His Empyrean was calculated something about 3.something megatonnes which luts him in GOI level not on Spriggan level. He may currently be but we need to see.And everyone is saying it was written by the publisher but none can show any proof.

Yeahhhh, Gildartz definitely struggled against Bluenote before the Tenrou tree fell. Natsu accidentally one shot Bluenote.....I dont think Gil is still the top dog as he was preskip.

I wonder if Gildarts will get a full blown battle in this arc, against August preferably.

We've never truly seen him go all out... even against Bluenote.

Somehow I think we'll be getting a Laxus & Gildarts tag team against August, Jellal&CS may join, but I'm not sure if Mashima has any other plans for him :hmm
