Discussion Hisoka spinoff

Some of you must know Tokyo Ghoul. It's written by Ishida Sui and it has a section here. Ishida had drawn a picture of Hisoka for April Fools one or two years ago IIRC, he apparently really love his character.

And now, collaborating with Togashi, he drew a special chapter about Hisoka's past.

Here is Ishida's twitter, the two hottest tweets confirm it. Since MS translate both I hope they will translate this one too.

Since togashi does not output a lot of chapters, i would like him to let more other mangaka try to have a take on backstories and flashbacks as long as they work with togashi to leave things canon and coherent.
HxH has a rich sidecast and some of them leave room to explore them more outside of the mainplot.

It's not, but I think its fine when its things that togashi has no intention to ever touch in the manga.

Keep in mind that not the manga, but Hunter x Hunter is his product

I don't think it's fine at all if he'd delegate away the right to add canon story to HxH. Hisoka' past might not be touched on in the manga, but it would still be canon

Summary of the Ishida x Togashi interview (credits to Sandman (from Ap), big thxs to him )

- The interview was held on 22 April. (source: Ishida's twitter)

- Ishida is a big fan of Togashi. Ishida's favorite character is Hisoka. Togashi told him to feel free to draw Hisoka's backstory whatever he wants.

- Togashi loves to draw a guy with his hair down, whose hairstyle is usually combed-back hair.
- Togashi loves Hisoka mainly because Hisoka is crazy and likes self-injury.

- Hisoka's suit symbols in his speech bubbles are basically Togashi's random decision except Heart.

- Hisoka doesn't follow Togashi's intention since Hisoka is a capricious character. On the other hand, Hisoka sometimes moves on his own. He went wild in the end in the recent story.

note: A controversy is occurring in Japanese forum. In the raw text, Togashi says "最後はハジけてくれました", which can also be interpreted as "Hisoka burst in the end", which may imply Hisoka's future in the next chapter...

- Togashi applied the brake about Hisoka's recent battle although Hisoka wanted to "go further", which makes Togashi regret a bit.

note: I'm not sure what scene Togashi is mentioning...

- Manga becomes exciting when an author can't control his characters. Togashi prepares a rough story before he starts drawing, but his characters sometimes talk totally differently from the prepared story.

- In Ishida's spin-off, Hisoka disguises a guy's face via Texture Surprise. Togashi thinks it a good idea since he is/was also going to introduce this kind of application.

- No matter how an author prepares an interesting backstory of a character, it is basically inferior to audience's imagination.

- Togashi himself doesn't know about Hisoka's past yet, but he says he'd like to draw it when Hisoka was about 14-17 years old. Togashi also says probably he won't draw Hisoka's family background and parents since it explains too much.

- Togahi thinks parents are in the way in manga.

- Hisoka falls down on the ground on the first page in Ishida's spin-off. Togashi says he'd like to draw what happened to Hisoka before he fell down on the ground some day. Ishida is very glad about it.

- Togashi showed a shocking thing to Ishida on his studio. Ishida says he felt as if someone struck his head.

That Texture Surprise talk could imply a lot of things... He has yet to use it like that in the story.

Togashi also said his favorite character in Tokyo Ghoul is Suzuya.

I think the talk about the "the burst in the end" is most likely how hisoka changes to what he is now not how he dies(he is refering to the side story). No author will ruin future plots like that.

So he created a persona that's now interacting with him? They're on twitter and giving interviews how they're fans of each others work, how they're gonns collab and all that?

Well there is the fact that togashi never collaberated with anyone . The guy doesnt even have an assistent. Suddenly he is content in giving a character he loves to another author ( no face no history nothing) to write a background story that togashi himself didnt decide yet(or so he says).
