I did some math and I been following HxH for 13 years!
The first and only transmition here in my country was in 2003, at that time I was a dbz fan mostly but HxH is now my all time favourite without a doubt, thanks to the manga, I loved the 2011 adaptation, but the manga is unmatched imo.
How about you guys, how many years or hiatus since you started with this amazing manga/anime? :v
Oh, that is a hard one.
I started reading HxH arround the time i was 13 or so. A friend had the first few and i instantly fell in love with it.
I remember reading up until the beginning of greed island, but then the german manga was not translated further for some time.
At 14 or so I had puberty issues and decided to stop reading manga and playing games because it seemed childish.
This stayed that way for a rather long time. When i started reading manga again with 17 or so, i mostly read on mangahosting websites which did not feature HxH. I always looked for it, but whether i was too stupid or it was not there, i didnt find HxH and also did not know anymore where i had left off.
The only thing i found were chapters to download and many of them were horribly translated. And i would have had to download a lot of them to see where the story went on, and rereading was also a big pain with that (you couldnt download it in chunks).
I actually started reading HxH again when i got lucky and found it on a website when i was already studying. Must have been at least 8 years after i stopped, maybe more.
When i read up completely, the manga was in the chimera ant arc just before the supergon fight (so in the last hiatus of the CA arc).
That means i was able to avoid a lot of hiatus simply by not being able to read it for such a long time. The fact that i never forgot about it tho speaks volumes.
Most other manga i had dropped at that time were stuff i never could get back into (i read shaman king, detective loki, detective conan, NGE and naruto. The only manga that i kept reading for some time was one piece), but it always lingered somewhere in my mind that I wanted to know how kurapika's vendetta against the spider turns out.
I think HxH is the only work i stayed loyal with for so long. A lot of longrunning things actually lost me at some point after i grer older.
Harry potter for example was something i just could not keep reading.
The only longrunning thing i never put down was berserk, but i only started reading it when i was already 17.
