Hmmmm. See how it slows down?

I loved the flashback, as well.

I dunno. I personally didn't have an issue with the fight. No, it wasn't perfect, but it was well executed. I started cracking up when Hisoka was all "Ohhh Goooooooon!", but other than that, I liked how they showed Gon's emotions throughout out. If I were to have a big complaint, it would be the music.

Sure, the animation/sound direction wasn't as great as the last 5 minutes of episode 35, but, IMO, it's going to be hard to top that.

I didn't think the badge scene was lame at all. It was tense.

I had a few disappointments such as Killua not being shown when Hisoka says Transmuters are liars.

Zushi doesn't get his line of "tell us about manipulators" but of course Hisoka in this version DOES tell us about manipulators.
Oh well. We did get some extra Zushi afterwards so it evens out.

I say I'm pretty happy with the fight

8 out of 10

(last week was 10 out of 10)

Huh? I thought they showed Killua when Hisoka explained about Transmuters. Because he and Gon thought to themselves, When Hisoka mentioned Transmuters are fickle and dishonest, "He nailed it!".

Edit: Ah, I see. I watched Ep. 42 of the 99' anime, and it pans to Killua when Hisoka is explain Transmuters more.

The difference is that he went through all the other types, where in the manga he only mentioned Reinforcement and Transmutation, and Zushi wanted to know about Manipulation. That disappointed me a little bit.

I think the episode was just fine. I really don;'t get why some of you think full sakuga animation (such as last episodes fight scene with Gon and Hisoka) should be in every episode and in every scene. The reason that animation is so special is because it's uncommon. That level of animation takes a lot of work and should be used at moments when it is needed. There are plenty of other animation techniques such as slow motion, standard animation, still rame emphasis, etc. I don't understand the complaint that the animation was great, but not excellent. It's like saying you didn't enjoy a pack of potato chips because there wasnt enough in there, you still liked the chips right? They still tasted good, there just wasnt enough or you. See what I'm saying? Now I'd understand complaints if the animation quality dropped dramatically (something it has not once done in the series run to date) but just because its not as good as last weeks? Didnt you see the epic animation of Hisoka chasing Gon? haha oh well, probably no use.

Btw I do think they can still fit Kite into the next episode. Here is the structure I imagine (times are rough):

1:30 - Episode begins with Gon and Killua now at Gon's house.
- Talk with Mito briefly and eat, she tries to snap license.
- They leave to adventure Whale Island.
- Gon shows Killua few places (preview seems to show them fishing) this could perhaps be a quick montage.
4:00- Killua asks Gon why he ever chose to leave Whale Island (cause its so cool right?)
- Gon reveals the backstory of Kite.
8:00- The boys discuss their goals. Gon's goal is to see his father, Killua doesnt have a goal but he will follow Gon to find it.
- Killua asks about Gon's mother, Gon says Mito is his mother. Mito is watching.
- Boys return home and Mito reveals the box, says she will tell Gon about Ging.
10:00ish - COMMERCIAL BREAK
- Mito discusses her childhood with Ging etc.
- Gon wants to know more so she tells him more, why he left etc.
16:00 - Gon and Killua try to open the box.
- They figure to use Ren on it and it opens.
- They investigate the contents of the box.
- They discover the tape and begiin to play it.
20:00 - Episode concludes with the sound of Gings voice: 'Gon, do you want to see me?'
DOOO DA DOO DA DOO DAAA HUNTINGG FOR YOUR DREAMMM!!

I think it all fits and works within that timeline roughly. Thoughtsss?

that wasn't what I was talking about but never mind. Turns out it actually wasn't in the manga.
I just thought I remembered Killua being shown when Hisoka talked about transmuters being liars.
Looks like I just got it confused with the 99 version. I actually liked that scene. So a point for 99.

Well then never mind. I'm not disappointed anymore.

Hm maybe I'll bump it up to a 9 out of 10.

Am I the only one who thought the animation in 36 was actually pretty good?

one little part that I really like...

The refs reaction to when Gon gets punched by Hisoka by Gon blocks it.
The ref gets a little bit worried for Gon. This is in the manga btw.
I like that they show this part because it helps explain why he was
so technical when he was judging. It's easier to see his motivation
for wanting to end the fight so quickly.

Hm...I was thinking Gon got that box later when we find out about Greed Island.
Looks like he actually does get in Chapter 65 and not Chapter 69.
So I'm not as worried about them messing up Whale Island.
Still not sure about Kite but we'll see.

Though a question

would you rather see the entire Flesh Collector's Mansion in one episode?
Or would you like to end on the cliff hanger of the first part when Kurapika is
ABOUT to use his nen chains? The first would have the whole fight
but the second would be more suspenseful.

Flesh Collectors flows better as ONE episode than as two in my opinion.

true but from the current pacing it looks like it will be two

37=64/65
38=66/67
39=68/69

unless maybe...

37=64/kite/65 part 1

38=65 part 2/ 66

39=67/68

oh and I liked your idea.

Kite's flashback is not that long, so it could fit perfectly. The problem is that it would interrupt Flesh Collector's Mansion.

I'd be very interested in seeing the "Test" from the flesh collectors Mansion chapters adapted smoothly into one episode, but I also really want dat Kite flashback (mostly for introducing new fans to HxH). I agree there's no reason we may not get Kite in 37 or 38 and its just not shown off in the preview.

That's what I'm wondering about.

Though if Flesh Collector is split in two it would be

38=66/67
39=68/69
40=70/71
41=72/73 (Sept 1st part 1 and 2)

and 41 would end with the end of Volume 8 (Feitan and Franklin busting up the auction)

then we could have

42=74/75
43=76/77
44=78/79
45=80/81 (Kurapika and Uvogin are about to fight)
46=82/83 (Kurapika and Uvogin fight end volume 9 and emperor time)

and actually I WANT Kurapika vs Uvogin to be split up.

But I'll just see what they do.

There's something I didn't get in this week's episode, I mean.. some parts of the fight really needed good animation, and yet they were animated badly, and in the other hand some parts of the fight didn't need that kind of good animation, and yet the were animated greatly! and to be honest that's a little bit stupid!!

---------- Post added at 02:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:40 AM ----------

Why was I disappointed with Gon's rush? Look at how it was in the manga.

When I read it, I always thought it should be like this:

NOT like this:
You're right, when I saw that part of the fight in the manga, I thought it would be animated in a way that makes you see so many hands punching Hisoka at the same time.

Actually I would not be pleased if it was like One Piece. You can't even see the hands.
Even in the manga you can see the hands. It's just implied really fast.

I think just 10% to 20% faster and some more front angle shots of Gon punching would have been great.

But all in all I thought the Gon punching scene was great.

About chaps per episode... I actually don't think they'll introduce Kaito next week (but I hope so), but it could go like that:
ep 37: chap 64, Kaito fb, chap 65;
ep 38: chap 66, chap 69 (it ends in a nice way) + maybe departure from chap 1 (farewell with forest animals)
ep 39: chap 67, chap 68 as I don't think chap 67 is that much of a cliffhanger. And I myself don't like how chap 66 cuts off the Gon/Killua story, so it would be great to finish it with chap 69 imo.
Even if there's no Kaito, I think it'll go something like this.

Compared to how rapid fire punches are usually drawn in manga. If you've seen them in anime you'd understand how it usually depicted and why Gon's attack wasn't as good as it it's supposed to be.

Something gives me the feeling that there will be some major changes to the Return to Whale Island arc. It's a difficult arc to pace in terms of anime. Because majority of the chapters end in a way that is unnatural as the conclusion of an episode of television. I suspect we will ultimately see some filler stuff placed in (goodbye to everyone including Kon) and the Kite flashback will be added in. This needs to happen for pacing reasons. Heck the 99 series had to add filler in for pacing reasons. It just doesn't fit too well an episode structure. I believe if we don't see Kite this coming episode, we may see him in a filler 'goodbye whale island' episode of some sort.

I'm all for Whale Island fillers as long as they don't pose any problems, story-wise. Kite or no Kite, I want a good Whale Island episode. Of course, including Kite will make it better (assuming they do him right, which I don't doubt).

Best friends eating homecooked meals and camping under the stars... I don't know why, but I love down times like these.
