Re: Italian Language

Whoa, an Italian thread! Been dead for months though... Just wanted to input my thoughts on Italian as I've been studying it for about half a year. I got the essere and avere down, but not fluent yet. Working in the vocab now. :( Hope this thread comes back to life so you guys can help me if I need it! ;) Grazie, amici!

Re: Italian Language

Well, school restarted again today after break. :( Well, on my homework, a fill in the blanks sort of thing. There was a sentence that didn't make sense to me. "Io abito a solo cinque minuti dalla scuola." The blank was abito through elimination (worksheet on verbs ending in -are and all other choices weren't conjugated for io). Literally I think it means "I live by myself five minutes after school." Abito could be "living a life" if you use it that loosely I guess. Any comments on this Luckas?

Re: Italian Language

The sentence means that who talks needs only 5 minutes to reach school from his house. In a more general sense he is saying: I live near school, I need only 5 minutes to reach it (to go to school). Hope I'm clear, if not ask again.

PS: My english isn't very good.

Re: Italian Language

"I live 5 minutes away from school" I think that's the best way to trabslate it.

Re: Italian Language

Ohh, I get it now! Thanks guys. :)[br]Posted on: January 03, 2007, 04:24:12 PM_________________________________________________Need some more help guys. :s For the word use, "uso", it changes depending on what is doing the action, right? Not on what is in front or whatever. Thanks. :)

Such as "Claudia usa la bicicletta." It changes because of Claudia, not bicicletta, right?

Yes, it depends on who is performing the action.
"Claudia usa il triciclo" --------> Still "usa", even though triciclo is a male noun.

"Io uso la bicicletta"
Tu usi la biciccletta.
Lui/Lei usa la bicicletta.
Noi usiamo la bicicletta.
Voi usate la bicicletta.
Loro usano la bicicletta.

The verb always depends on who is performing the action.
