first, I don't underrate anything.

AoE means nothing. Sema's best feat was taking down OS who were hit by GC before that. they were still alive and conscious. its big but its damage is not that strong.

also, Laxus used Red Lightning to bypass Wahl's immunity. if Wahl wasn't immune then the match would have been over sooner, not to mention that his organs were still screwed even when he was healed.
conscious mean what? you do know jellal KO'ed natsu with a single hand wave in the OS arc, so are you saying that jellal's casual hand wave > than laxus' roar and grand chariot? both of which didn't KO natsu only made him unable to move for a couple of moment. rofl, even in real life it doesn't work like that a punch to a chin can KO you, but a gunshot wound to the leg wouldn't so a punch>gunshot?

also why would jellal kill them? his goal was to recruit them. also if he KO them then he's not gonna be able to talk to them. also FL doesn't KO it's opponent as well.

also OS' state doesnt even mean anything anymore because it's the current level of spell we are talking about, and we know that jellal's GC was strong enough that he can oneshot a 100% healthy spriggan which rival's red lightning, so if his GC is already that strong then surely his sema right now is waaay stronger. judging by jura's reaction of shitting his pants at the sight of it's mere aura which is way different when jura saw GC where he was even smirking.

i'm not denying that, but the issue is laxus' RL barely did anything to wahl, it was clearly shown that wahl was hit in the chest by it, and he was fine, and was even talking like nothing happened. the only time laxus managed to beat wahl was when he gave more power to the red lightning hence the o-ooooooh then flashback scene trope, also he was empowered by wahl there when wahl foolishly hit him with a lightning attack.

the problem is that laxus' cieling has been shown he used a max power high-tier attack, jellal's cieling is still unknown coz all he's shown so far to rival laxus' cieling is his max powered mid-tier spell.

jellal's full power high tier spell >>> jellal's full power mid-tier spell = laxus' full power high tier spell.

you know how screwed the other side(laxus) is when his fans are relying on assumptions(maybe red lightning is just a mode) that has no basis or was never even implied as an arguement.

Jellal >>> Natsu by a mile. one shotting him is no big deal imo. OC already took heavy damage before Sema hit them.

Wahl wasn't hit by Red Lightning in the chest. look more closely. he hit him with regular lightning. Red Lightning kicked in after that in which Wahl was like "wtf". if he hit him full on with Red Lightning then he would have been torn apart sooner. if a place fist on your chest and I begin to slowly pushing it, would it hurt more if a hit you with a fist??? hitting with a fist is much more painful and damaging than just pushing your fist. not only did he defeat Wahl he also killed him. he powered it up even further just as Jellal powered up his GC. also, that lightning power up already faded away. he hit Wahl couple of times with that lightning "empowerment" and then he collapsed heavily injured. also, Laxus was heavily injured during that point. his MBP was removed but he still had a heavy damage on his body, not to mention that his organs were still screwed.

also, you are being ridiculous. Jellal powered up his Grand Chariot a lot. he had time to power up his GC. he was even exhausted after it. Laxus didn't damage Wahl because of his immunity. that is the only reason he even survived that long. your logic is also flawed. just because Laxus used RL(stronger than regular lightning) that doesn't mean its his strongest move. RL bypasses his IMMUNITY. without immunity only his durability remains in which he tore him apart. it was super effective against him. Lightning Dragon roar, Dragons Jaw, Secret Art, Halbert are stronger spells if he charges them enough.

this is my last post so please don't tag me in your post. I insist. this debate about Laxus and Jellal are getting ridiculous. we are also going off topic.

why is it not a big deal? what you were saying is that OS being conscious afffects the strength of an attack, but i gave you a counterarguement that says it's false which is that natsu was unconscious from a casual attack, but conscious from grand chariot and roar, and this is irrelevant anyway because that's pre-skip. the only thing we need to look at from the pre-skip is the difference in power between jellal's mid-tier spell(GC) and his high-tier spell(Sema), which is in GC jura's confident and has a smug on his face, but once he saw Sema's mere clouds he was shitting his pants off.
Sema>>>>>>>> GC

Jellal max power high-tier spell(area where jellal's ceiling lies) >>> Jellal max power mid-tier spell = Laxus' max power high tier spell(this is the area where laxus' ceiling aka maximum capability lies).

we're not even factoring the fact that laxus gave more of what he has in his RL than jellal in his GC considering next chapter after their respective fights jellal was pursuing the strugglers in the town, while laxus was forced to sit down and have a rest even knowing the fact that there's still tons of enemies to take care off.

you can clearly see from the panel that's 2nd to the last that laxus hit Wahl with a fully formed red lightning there's not a single regular lightning to be seen in that panel, and yet wahl was still fine, and was even commenting the nature of the attack, and was only able to truely beat wahl after using more power in the RL hence he was shouting "O-oooooh". wahl never said WTF if he hits me seriously with RL im dead, he was just analyzing the nature of the attack, because his "immunity's not working.

i'm not even denying that jellal powered up his GC.he did powered it up, but so did laxus the difference is that, laxus' was a high-tier spell while jellal used a mid-tier spell, and the fact that in laxus' case we've seen that his regular RL wasn't enough to take down a spriggan like what jelllal did. that jellal's mid tier = laxus' high tier, and that's a fact that you have to accept.

seriously did you even read my comment? try to comprehend it pls, or are you doing it on purpose because you can't find a counterarguement of those facts.

You entirely missed my point. Jellal sweating has nothing to do with him being unable to solo Neinhart. That is the message I want you guys to understand.

And yes, that is exactly what I think. Jellal doesn't care about killing Simon a second time. The first time wasn't his own doing. It was Ultear's and he knows that. He just feels sorry because it was his body but it was never his intention. Also, the second time around (fighting against Neinhart), he knew Simon was not real. He even warned Kagura when she was running towards him. In a sense, he is like Gray. They are both logical enough to figure out that they were going up against illusions created by their enemies. Even Erza figured it out... eventually...

There was no psychological battle here. The only one who was impacted psychologically was Lyon + Kagura because of their unstable emotions and Erza because she had such an unforgetful past with Kyōka (especially after getting tortured and humiliated). So in the end, Jellal did beat Neinhart by himself.

To think that I have to explain this chapter long after it was released is extremely appalling. I guess I should pay more attention and visit the Fairy Tail Spoilers/Predictions Thread more often because clearly, some just don't get it.

Also, using Laxus sweating is not an excuse.

Rather, using the fact that Laxus was sweating because of his illness is an excuse. Just look at all of these panels. He used Red Lightning and this was without his illness. So why was he still sweating? Because he used an attack like Red Lightning. Using any strong attack makes a character sweat. That much should be obvious by now.

Thought the sweat was the effects of his post-illness?

Nope. As you can see, it only takes one panel for him to recollect himself.
Jellal wasn't sweating, he just came out of the water.

^ +the fact that he was still fine to go on and pursue the enemies immediately after the fight with no sign of exhaustion in his face or whatsoever kinda solidify that.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---
jellal wasn't exhausted when he used GC on neinhart, a drop of sweat after an attack can have various meanings
a) exhaustion
b) emotion

wendy also had a drop of sweat when after she used her roar that wasn't even intended to hit the treasure hunter. she used her roar because she got pissed off the treasure hunter's spouting nonsense about her friends, but she's not exhausted considering right after that she had no trouble fighting at all.

it's clear his sweat falls under the category b like wendy considering
1)he was pissed off neinhart for what he did to erza
2)he was in fine shape right after the fight and was still even pursing the strugglers in hagedon port.

I wonder how Jellal gets to the battlefield... I wouldn't mind if he came with someone not is Crime Sorciere, just for some different interactions. I actually think he'll arrive with Gajeel and Zera, so that Zera can possibly relay some info about Zeref/Mavis.

the fact that he was still fine to go on and pursue the enemies immediately after the fight with no sign of exhaustion in his face or whatsoever kinda solidify that.
He definitely wasn't exhausted. He couldn't have been, he used 1 spell. Natsu for example can use 2 reasonably large FD spells and 1 FDK spell in quick succession without becoming exhausted, so someone like Jellal should be able to replicate that at least. Gildarts used Empyrean and then went to smash the ground in a big way... what I'm saying here is it's very hard for people like Jellal/Natsu/Gildarts to exhaust themselves just by using spells.

All Jellal did after he used GC is pant a little... that's probably to show he had to put in a fair effort. But he didn't collapse from fatigue or anything severe like that.

There probably isn't a spell that Jellal has where he could use nearly all his MP in one go either. Even Sema wouldn't take out all of Jellal's MP, maybe not even half of it.

Where did you come up with want moves of laxus are mid tier and which are high teir? Laxus had to use red lightning because of wahl's immunity. Laxus never use hald the moves in his arsenal that he normal would have used, and last time I cheaked laxus took a ton of damage and still solo'd wahl, while jellal needed mouth to mouth in aweird ass kissing scene. Cheak hiro's twitter buddy, erza runs the pants in the Jerza dynamic. Who says which moves of laxus are mid tier and high tier, a punch from laxus if he is serious can be high teir, how did you come to your conclusions. Its all opinions dude, lets atleast try to respect each others, you can't say what moves of laxus are low, mid and high tier when his opponent had an immunity to it. And by the way my friend Jellal did not beat the orcion seis he beat 4 people and the strongest person Zero wasn't even one of them.

you're like the 3rd person who replied to me as if you didn't read what i said. it's getting tiresome to keep repeating my self like a broken record when you can clearly see my point if you try to read it properly.

im not denying that laxus needed Red Lightning because his regular lightnign doesn't work on Wahl. what i said is that Laxus' Red Lightning, which bypasses Wahl's resistance, wasn't enough to take down Wahl. Laxus had to use more power in that attack despite said attack being his high end move.

it's perfectly clear that Wahl tanked the Red Lightning attack in the scan i provided. he was fine, he was even analyzing the attack. the only time Wahl went down was when Laxus used more of his power for the RL

hence he needed high powered high end move to beat Wahl.

Facts
1) Laxus was cured
2) Laxus was empowered after wahl hit him with a lgihtning attack
3) Red Lightning completely bypasses Wahl's immunity to lightning

that OS stuff is X791 and is irrelevant. the only thing i used in that timeskip is the comparison between jellal's basic spell(GC)and top tier spell(Sema) and i didn't even mentioned OS in that post IIRC. the comparison i used was Jura's reaction between the 2 spells.

I might be the only one who seems to have preferred Jellal when he was a villain instead of on the good side. He's less interesting to me now.

But Mystogan is pretty badass though. :hmph

Some crack thought/light discussion...

Jellal's star spells are not only number-centered, but when he casts them, his fingers and the number of the stars follow the number in the spell name
Six Consecutive Stars: Pleiades

Nine Thunder Stars: Kyuuraishin

Seven Star Swords: Grand Chariot

Also I like it because it reminds me of/represents Balam Alliance (6 Prayers, 7 Kins, and 9 Demons). And the order of casting is 6 → 9 → 7. Seven is last because 7 Kins (Ultear and Merudy) are in special place in Jellal's heart. As the strongest of Balam Alliance members, it's like he did this for atoning their sins.

Big thumbs up for Jellal for amazing performance against Acnologia!

He was better as a villian. Now he is there just to push Jerza. He is like Sasuke 2.0 with this atoning for sins but Unlike him he is always looking for an opponent that clap him. Wonder why this is. Makes me think he himself doesn't want Erza and want to die.

Still can't believe Jellal and the OS never even met Zeref when their whole story post-Tartaros revolved around him.
That's power of Mashima with the natsu wank gauntlet.

Even the bit against Acno was unsatisfying tbh.

Blocking Acno's attack was cool but we don't really have any idea how powerful his new attacks are, and there was virtually no reason behind the fight narratively apart from ship teasing. Jellal is a great character and his relationship with Erza is a part of that but Jellal is also far more than that. This is the dude that earlier in the series almost killed Erza and Natsu, the dude that caused Natsu to enter DF when he fed him his remaining Magic Power despite being not at full power, the dude that effortlessly killed fodder baby dragons when a horde of the same things killed Gray (despite Gray being backed up by Lyon, Juvia and Meredy)! And of course, he's the guy that solo'd the Oracion Seis and one-shotted Neinhart!

Yet what is his last actual fight in the series? Stomped along with CS by August. There's no shame in losing to August since his Magic is broken, but just leaving it there? WHY. Its an injustice to both him and CS. Having August, the most blind follower of Zeref, be defeated by former blind followers would have been amazing. Might even have made up for the fact they never met Zeref given that August is basically the Ace-In-The-Hole and a stupid OP threat not too dissimilar from Zeref himself (with the way August's Magic appeared to work he was basically immortal when compared to a 'normal' mage). But nope, instead we get Gildarts fighting August, an August suicide, Jellal and CS never meeting Zeref, and Jellal ultimately being a time waster for Acno.

Christ, I'm tempted to revive my re-write thread....

Moved this to the Jellal thread because it became too long for the favourite characters one lol
Hon mentions:
OG Mystogan (before Mashima ruined him and then off'ed him in Edolas arc)
Jellal/Seigrain, when he was a villain (don't like him since he became 'good')

If he goes TOH mode or Genesis mode, he's instantly getting to my top 3
Out of interest, what do you mean when you say Mashima ruined Mystogan? Is it the reveal of Edolas and his backstory?

Also Jellal and his popularity typically scaling to whether he is good or bad reveals a huge flaw in Mashima's writing IMO. Good Jellal has moments where he's interesting and I really like the idea of a character that feels too guilty to actually achieve redemption, but Good Jellal suffers from not allowed to be able to succeed on-panel. Pretty much the only real success he's had post-TOH was beating the Oracion Seis in Tartaros. Apart from that:

- He (albeit understandably) gets beat by Midnight in the OS arc and is too weak to fight Zero, instead giving his remaining MP to Natsu which sends him into DF. Its good hype for Jellal but is an immediate meh showing because he didn't put down anyone by himself, though thankfully it is pointed out throughout the arc that he's still weak.

- During GMG he takes on Jura and does quite well, but fails because of Ultear and Meredy. The impression the match leaves is that Jellal is at the very least in Jura's tier but it suffers from the same problem as OS arc - we don't see him succeed. He goes on to save Erza but its from absolute fodder and she was battered from a whole tournament of fighting, so its kinda meh. This might just be something I personally find annoying but he should have had more to with Future Rogue and his plan IMO, like he should have lent Natsu a hand or helped destroy the gate. It would have given him a success on panel for the arc, rather than him being mostly remembered in GMG for a gag fight.

- Tartaros was gold, Mashima was perfect here! Good Jellal got to be a badass while also not being a hypocrite, replacing the unfortunate loss of Ultear with a near entire guild of former Dark Mages.

- Alvarez... honestly I'd rather just re-write the whole arc lmao. Jellal and a lot of other characters got treated badly. The crux of my issues though include bloodlusted Jellal not killing Neinhart (dude meant nothing in the end, just kill him), having no redemption vs August (Copy Ninja August was lazy, August should have just been that strong and magically talented) and Jellal + CS never even meeting Zeref. Fuck this arc entirely.

- 100YQ is still going so I won't trash how its treated Jellal just yet, but its looking pretty bad as of now.

Compare this to how TOH Jellal was treated where he tricked the whole Magic Council for years, qualified as a Wizard Saint (back when titles actually meant something lmfao) with half his MP as a Thought Projection, actually killed Simon and almost killed DF Natsu + Erza. The man was an actual challenging villain who was worth the panel time and lived up to the hype of being a Wizard Saint. If you ask me the problem of Good Jellal isn't that he can't be a cool character, its that Hiro never shows him succeeding (Tartaros is starting to seem like the exception).

There's also the issue of his character being tied to JeRza, but that's another topic entirely.

Edolas arc was cancer IMO, it completely ruined mystogan in my view as well.
Mystogan actually not having magic power, and his spells being borrowed = L
The entire Edolas arc = L
Mystogan never to be seen again = L

My problems with the 'good' Jellal:

- he's pretty boring. He's kinda depressed with his past, and that took all the fun and life out of his character. Compare that to The villain Jellal who was cunning, flamboyant, manipulative etc - overall was much more entertaining and lively. Evil Jellal did much more in 40 episodes than good Jellal has done in 200+ episodes
- His entire existence right now is for JerZa.
- He seemingly has mastery over several magic - 4 elements (implied from Abyss Break), dark magic; and knows other random magic like self destruction, mystogan magic, barrier etc but all we ever see from the guy is freaking Grand Chariot lmao. Every time I see that shitty spell, the guy goes further down for me.

And yes, the final issue is one that you mentioned.
The entire existence of CS was to end Zeref's influence and finally Zeref himself. The guy and his guild didn't even get to meet Zeref lmao. Instead he meets Acnologia for JerZa. That's probably the biggest FU to the character and his guild

I actually like JerZa, think it's the best 'ship' of the series inspite of not really liking Jellal and Erza. But hate that Jellal right now exists solely for the ship
