I think Jellal would win this one. Yes, he doesn't have the greatest durability out there, but I think from what we've seen his attack power could be better, and he's also got versatility and speed as advantages too. He is also probably a bit more intelligent than Gray and as for Magic Power, well that is debatable but again I'd go for Jellal. Even if Neinhart's durability isn't the best, we've previously seen Jellal show better than Gray (He soloed Oracion Seis in Tartarus), I think it's fair to say that Jellal would win this one mid-high diff (leaning more towards high).

Watch your phrasing @atomic_2000 :teehee
I still have those one-shot club memes saved, you know xD

Back on topic, I think Jellal loses this one because he hasn't shown enough growth in the timeskip as compared to other characters like Gray, Laxus or Natsu. Not to mention, he got one-shotted by Neinhart :l

I think i agree with one statement from @Dr. Monty especially. I'd say that Jellal should be sstronger than Gray and i'm willing to bet that he's the stronger of the two, BUT with Gray's recent feats and Jellal's lack of feats, i can not vote for Jellal. I'd vote Gray, but that's contrary to my belief that Jellal is still stronger.
I need Jellal to fight again, i really want to know if he's still worth the hype.

Well, I'm not gonna sugar coat this post, so I'm going to be pretty blunt here:

First of all, I'm really puzzled more than curious to know why we should give Jellal another chance at a Spriggan match.

Back during the Fairy Tail Tournament, I said "Let's wait until Gray, Gildartz, and Mira get more feats before we judge them."

But that's because those 3 hadn't fought a Spriggan at the time.

With Jellal... he has.

What's the point in waiting any longer before we judge him?

It's not like Jellal didn't get his chance at a Spriggan yet... he did get his chance, and against a weak Spriggan too.

Jellal's underwhelming performance can't really be made an exception considering he was on an even playing field.

And I don't see why we should disregard Jellal vs. Neinhart battle either...

Every time Jellal doesn't have feats up on Laxus tier, are we just supposed to say "Let's wait until more future battles before we judge him."?

Because at a certain point, when are we gonna stop?

The way I see it, Jellal already had his chance, it was a pretty fair chance too.

The fact is that he just didn't perform well to the fans' liking, but there should be no reason why we can't judge him based off of his current feats.

Jellal is no Gildartz... he already fought against a Spriggan in a fair match and produced current-arc feats.

Based off of that, I think it's pretty fair to say that his case is closed until he can show further feats.

Therefore, for this specific match, Jellal vs. Gray, I see Gray beating Jellal with relative ease.

Like I said, at best, Jellal is taken down with high diff from Gray...

But I honestly don't think there is any point to "wait" for more Jellal feats when we already have them right here.

In conclusion, I still stand by my original argument and say that Gray, one way or another, has better feats than Jellal overall and would defeat him in this battle anywhere from mid-high diff.

@Nemispelled I haven't seen any fights from Jellal this arc. All he did was:
1) Fodderize Neinhart's knight guards, which is nothing;
2) Took Neinhart's attack in order to protect Kagura who didn't react to it;
3) Came back into the fight, at this point there were no Historias anymore, Nienhart didn't move, Jellal proceeded to one shot him.

I haven't seen a fight from Jellal yet this arc, i stand by it.

However i'm not saying "Jellal should have anoher chance of fighting a Spriggan", because that could be said for Mira as well for instance. There's a limited ammount of Spriggans, and they're already dropping like flies anyway.
Wha i'm saying is, what we've seen from Jellal this arc against Neinhart wasn't representative of Jellal's full potential.

With Jellal... he has.
He really hasn't.....coming in to one-shot Neinhart with a casual attack ins't much of a fight.

This small rant of yours is pretty biased. We were waiting for Gray to show anything noteworthy until like some 5 odd chapters ago. Until his fight with Invel (the last quarter of it to be more precise) Grays feats were downright pitiful. Its more then fair to wait for Jellal to show off the full extent of his feats just like everyone waited for Gray to do so.

Jellal is no Gildartz... he already fought against a Spriggan in a fair match and produced current-arc feats.
No he's not a Gildarts, he's much more relevant. Frankly speaking, Jellal is easily one of the most important side characters in the series and the fact that he trained specifically to take down Zeref (just like Natsu and Gray) means that his power is going to really be something when it shows. Jellal has a better shot at displaying his feats against one of the big three (Irene, August or Larcade) then just about anybody who hasn't already done so.

I don't see why anybody would think that taking a shot in the back by a Spriggan to save someone, then coming out of it with no visible injuries is an appropriate feat to use in saying that Jellal has weak durability. Besides the fact that it was an obvious plot device to get the Kagura + Jellal drama resolved. It's like saying that August has shit durability because he got run through by the sword. He even has better durability feats pre-timeskip where he grabs Cobra's poison hand who's same poison almost killed Erza by itself and tanks the barrage of Natsu's attacks as well as his DF attacks.

Anyway, Gray based on feats should take the win. He will struggle with the speed though. Adding in hype and portrayal I'd give it to Jellal.

He would have to tank it before it counts as a durability feat which he didn't. Also he had a jacket over the spot he got hit so weren't going to see the bruising.

Cubellios (Kinana) poison is what done in pre-pre-skip Erza not Cobra's. Pre-pre-skip Natsu easily took those hits and even Happy took a number of them before it took him down.

August was caught off guard when Brandish attacked him and he easily tanked that sword stab through a good chunk of his torso. He didn't get KOed like Jellal did lol.

Jellal took Natsu's DF punches back in ToH. Even Tenrou Natsu outmatches ToH Natsu let alone SO Natsu (who would oneshot ToH DF Natsu). Those durability feats are pretty irrelevant as characters growth exceeds those old showings by a good margin.

Jellal's battle against Neinhart counts as a fight against a Spriggan in my opinion.

Jellal not showing his full potential is no excuse.

Has Natsu showed his full potential this arc? No.

Natsu has been oneshotting Spriggans like Dimaria, Jacob, and Neinhart left and right...

Natsu has literally been doing the exact same thing that Jellal has been doing... oneshotting...

Yet I don't see anybody saying "Let's wait until Natsu gets more feats."

The reason why nobody says that is because they are satisfied with Natsu's feats.

Plenty of other people have not shown their full potential either.

I honestly believe that Jellal's current feats are fair and square to judge.

He is not getting a different treatment compared to everybody else.

In fact, he may have even been given better treatment considering he was on an even playing field against Regular Neinhart.

rememeber keith vs juvia? lyon and gray vs ul? X791 juvia defeated Keith, but couldn't with a weaker version of keith, despite her being stronger now.
Lyon alone should be enough for a weaker ul but he needed gray's help, some apply for gray as he should be able to one shot her easly.
What's the point of listing those battles?

None of them are with a Spriggan, so they are all irrelevant.

Jellal didn't show anything new in his fight against neinhart, GS is something he has been using since pre pre-ts. he should be improved a lot since x791 If his goal is defeating zeref, and Sema and AB were his strongest spells X791, going by that logic he should possess stronger spells.
Jellal showed a lot. He showed what his improved Grand Chariot spell did to a Spriggan. You can tell he was pissed and he intended to defeat Neinhart, which he did.

You can also tell what difficulty he did it at.

Just because his goal is to defeat Zeref, it doesn't mean anything.

Gray's goal is to defeat END... is the community agreeing to END = Gray? No.

Natsu's goal is to defeat Acnologia... is he at that level currently? No.

what keep people downplaying jellal and calling his perfomance underwhelming against neinhart was his durability, despite him receiving no damage from that attack, But since feats are inconstant in this manga, I'm sure Jellal is going to tank something stronger than that without probs.

No, Jellal's durability is not the only problem here.

His actual offensive performance is considerably below Natsu.

Against Enhanced Neinhart, Natsu two-shotted the dude without using a named spell.

Against Regular Neinhart, Jellal oneshotted the dude, but showed signs of tiredness/fatigue after using Grand Chariot.

^

Jellal was clearly breathing and sweating after casting Grand Chariot. Natsu didn't even break a sweat when he defeated Enhanced Neinhart version.

He really hasn't.....coming in to one-shot Neinhart with a casual attack ins't much of a fight.

Dude, the only thing Natsu has been doing this whole arc is oneshotting Spriggan level opponents.

How come I don't see you on Natsu threads saying, "Guys, let's wait until Natsu shows more feats before we can judge"?

That's a little bias considering Natsu and Jellal have been doing the exact same thing the whole time... oneshotting...

Biased? Did you read my post???????

The reason I was waiting for Gray to show more feats was because he had NOT fought a Spriggan at the time.

The moment that Gray fought Invel, I DIDN'T say "Let's wait for more Gray feats" anymore...

Please...

Wait for Jellal to show the full extent?

Has Natsu showed his full extent yet? No.

Are we waiting on Natsu? No.

So explain to my why we must wait for Jellal to show his full extent, but not Natsu?

You seem to judge Natsu just fine...

I'm sorry, but now, it's becoming more like excuses than actual logic.

Jellal is much more relevant? By what proof?

Is he in FT? No.

Is Gildartz in FT? Yes.

By the way, Jellal disagrees with you:

^

If you read above, Jellal says he will commit one more sin (killing Neinhart).

So, basically, he doesn't intend to commit anymore sins (aka killing somebody).

So he's not relevant anymore I guess.

When it comes to Jellal's KO against Neinhart... I tend to disregard that completely. Him getting KO'd might have happened (from taking the full brunt of the blast) OR he might have gone unconscious from drowning. He didn't take any injuries, but Idk where he was hit (he was fully clothes, only face exposed) and I don't know how strong the blast was. I wouldn't think the blast was overly powerful.

Jellal's physicals are probably elite in Isghal's team. I wouldn't say he's equal to Laxus (that would require feats) but I actually don't think he'll be far off.

People thinking Jellal's training to beat Zeref means he's high tier.

Meredy was on the exact same regimen and needed PoF unison raid with Juvia to beat Zancrow. His little training regimen is BS plain and simple. The Jellal hype is about as real as Jellal's fantasy of defeating Zeref himself :lmao.

On the durability in regards to Pre-TS, I probably worded it wrong. Jellal has very good Pre-TS durability feats, he was definitely top tier in durability. He improved over TS like every other relevant character. There is no reason to assume that his durability has regressed or stagnated when every other character's (on a similar level) has shown an increase in durability relative to their overall power increase. Jellal's durability isn't going to fall massively lower than his other stats when it was it on the same level of most of his other stats in the Pre-TS.

Clashing with END should put Gray just above Base Natsu's level. END has a lot of hype, but it's based on pretty shaky statements, so we should only use the fact that he's above Base Natsu and that he defeated Dimaria to measure his powerlevel as of now. I still think Jellal can win if we consider portrayal here, because he's portrayed to be around Laxus' level and he one-shotted the only Spriggan he fought with, so I still don't see Current Gray beating him. Though this can change once we get more feats from END.

Gray is getting overrated.

Jellal wins this med-high diff.
Jellal can use Meteor to speedblitz Gray.
Wits intent to kill, Jellal will dance around to sky to make Grand Chariot, then Sema to finish off Gray.
Unless Gray can freeze Jellal's attack.
Gray getting blitzed at this point is a bad joke.

Baselessly assuming they went through the same training or that she trained as hard as Jelly boy.

Jellal's battle against Neinhart counts as a fight against a Spriggan in my opinion.
It really doesn't. A fight entails some back-and-fourth exchange, this"fight" was Jellal literally just firing off and OHKO'ing Neinhart with a single attack.

Natsu has been oneshotting Spriggans like Dimaria, Jacob, and Neinhart left and right...

Natsu has literally been doing the exact same thing that Jellal has been doing... oneshotting.

Only the people who will fight another Spriggan. There really isn't that much left.

Not even close. Natsu has been showing off his feats since the very beginning of Post-TS. Human Acnologia one-shot a Spriggan, does that mean human Acnologias feats are just as fleshed out as Natsus? Like this logic seriously doesn't work.

The reason I was waiting for Gray to show more feats was because he had NOT fought a Spriggan at the time.

LMAO the two are completely incomparable. One has shown a ton of feats and the other has shown two. How do you not see that this logic is terrible.

Is he in FT? No.

Is Gildartz in FT? Yes.
Again, this is abysmal logic. Is Max also more relevant then Jellal is because he is in the FT guild? Relevance is judged based on what a character does in the story. Gildarts has done virtually nothing of noteworthy, Jellal was a major part of the GMG arc as well as TOH and OS, showed up in Tartarus and his goal is to take down the strongest mage. Not to mention he is the main love interest of Hiros favourite girl (Erza).

I mean we know he wants to kill Zeref, thats a spur of the moment type of comment to make Jellal look more badass.

I'm really curious to know, why does it matter about the amount of abilities shown when all Natsu has been doing is still oneshotting??

There is really no difference between Jellal and Natsu.

Both of them have been oneshotting and neither of them has shown their full potential.

Natsu hasn't shown many feats either as you paint, for your information.

You act like he has showed an entire new arsenal.

Literally, Natsu has been mostly using the SAME feat over and over.... and that is FDK Demolition Fist...

He used a couple roars from Pre-TS, but most of his other "oneshots" were either done by Demolition Fist or unnamed spells.

So where is that "fleshed out array of feats" that you keep talking about?

Jellal was sweating, huffing, and puffing after he used Grand Chariot spell, please, don't tell me he could have showed an array of new feats.

He could barely pull off his Pre-TS spell with ease.

If he had difficulty casting his Pre-TS spell, then it's safe to assume his MP is not that great.

Gray casted Ice Devil Zeroth Long Sword (Pre-TS spell) with ease.

Natsu casted a stronger version of his Pre-TS roar with ease.

Please, don't give me the excuse Jellal has a lot more potential when he was tired from casting his Pre-TS spell, which barely defeated Regular old Neinhart.

You don't need to fight a Spriggan to show off your feats.

Wtf, yes you do.

In this arc, the Spriggans are the standard level of power or caliber that all Top-Tier FT mages should be at.

Spriggan level opponent are what we are measuring by as a criteria for showcasing power.

Just like how Tartaros Demon Gates were used to measure FT characters' power in Tartaros Arc.

Dude, you need really understand how it works rather than spending time making excuses.

LMAO the two are completely incomparable. One has shown a ton of feats and the other has shown two. How do you not see that this logic is terrible.

Quit repeating yourself and look at the first section of my post ffs.

You repetition is beyond excuses now.

I'll ask one more time:

Where the hell is the "ton of feats" when all Natsu has been doing is coming in and oneshotting?

Again, this is abysmal logic. Is Max also more relevant then Jellal is because he is in the FT guild? Relevance is judged based on what a character does in the story. I don't have any interest to respond to this whining.

As for this last part, I'm going to disregard it since it is just a bunch of assumptions and excuses.

Hiro has no problem with destroying clothing as a means to show damage, he was not damaged by the attack.

Jellal was caught offguard too, he was trying to save Kagura from Neinhart's blast. The only difference between Jellal and August's situation is that August took a sword through the gut from the front and Jellal took an attack to his back that sent him through the ship to the bottom of the ocean.

He doesn't destroy clothes all the time. And like I said he was KOed that attack which means it did damage to him.

Jellal knew the attack was coming which is why he grabbed Kagura and try to dodge it but August didn't know he was going to get stabbed by Brandish his own teammate. Jellal was KOed there isn't anything that refutes he got KOed by a weak attack like that. Just because it didn't show superficial damage doesn't mean Jellal didn't get hurt. If he didn't get hurt by that attack he wouldn't of been KOed.

You have no basis to say his durability as gone up since he had good durability pre-pre-pre-ts. Just because you had good durability back in practically BoS doesn't mean you're going to be tough stuff in the current era. You have to show feats that you've gotten better durability, we can't just give imaginary feats. Also Jellal hasn't proven that seeing as he trashed by pre-pre-ts enemies (OS) and Neinhart fodder blast oneshotted him.

Gray getting blitzed at this point is a bad joke.

Baselessly assuming they went through the same training or that she trained as hard as Jelly boy.
CS goal is the destruction of Zeref and every time we see Jellal we see Meredy so why wouldn't they be training together? It's not like they split up for year to heavily dedicate themselves to training.

Jesus christ you reek of Jellal hate. How mad are you going to be when he inevitably fights August, Irene, Larcade or even Zeref himself and puts up a fight (if not downright wins, with some aid)?
And you have yet to show an actual feat and not just throw around baseless hype. Jellal's hype shattered to pieces when base Natsu outmatched Enhanced Neinhart with two FD lvl punches while Jellal need an entire chapter to charge up one of his top tier spells to beat regular Neinhart.

Being together doesn't mean training together, like when team Natsu went to train for the GMG. Nor does Merdy have Jellal's growth's rate. Your argument is reliant on some flimsy assumptions.

Yes but all we know about Jellal's training is that he took down dark guilds and Zeref cult worshippers which is the exact same thing Meredy's training consisted of. It's not like it was stated that Jellal was off training by himself while CS went to take down the Dark Guilds and cult worshippers.

Hiro draws destroyed clothes all the time to show damage, he also draws bruise and dirt marks on people even if they are minorly damaged. Jellal had none of those after Neinhart's blast.

Jellal knew the attack was coming but he was trying to move Kagura out of the way, if someone was trying to save someone else from getting hit by a car they wouldn't brace for impact, they would try their hardest to move them out of the way. If Jellal was planning on getting hit by the blast he would of pushed Kagura out of the way and took it instead of diving and trying to get them both out of the way. Which means that both him and August weren't prepared to get hit by their attacks. He obviously did get hurt by the attack, just not damaged. You don't need to be damaged to get KO'd, fighters get KO'd all the time without receiving any actual injury from the KO blow.

Jellal isn't going to be the only top tier character that doesn't have their durability increase if their overall power increases massively. It's ridiculous to assume that without a reason.

Gildarts was damage by literal fodder blasts and headbutting Serena, I guess he has fodder durability as well then following your logic since he hasn't shown any other durability feats Post-TS.

It doesn't matter if he did or not he got knocked out by that blast. Laxus vs Wahl the entire first half the battle their clothes were fine. No tatters or scuff marks even on Wahl and Laxus clothes weren't even destroyed. Like I said Hiro doesn't always total clothes or shows scuff marks. Not to mention since he dived into the water there wouldn't be scuff marks on him in the first place.

Exactly Jellal knew the attack was coming and braced for the impact. August had no idea his own teammate was going to stab him. Two different scenarios you're comparing and August actually tanked his like chump.

He was high tiers pre-pre-ts doesn't mean he's going to be high tier in x791 or x792. You need feats not just baseless hype or expectations of a character. By feats Jellal's durability is trash. He got beat up by Oracion Sies and Neinhart nameless attack. His durability is nowhere near high tier level and you guys got to stop using x784 dirability feats like they are on the level of even x791 era feats let alone x792.
