Both are feat less this arc. Jellal has to beat someone on the level of Mira to solidify his position above Gray or beat gray himself. Nasu is the only available contender for him as of now. Mira will most probably clash with Gray.

@August_Lightning Cheers for the tag!

If we're trusting hype and portrayal, Jellal mid-diffs. So far though both of them haven't exactly done much, so I'll go with Jellal since he's faster and generally has better damage output. High-diff.
I think we can only go with Hype and portrayal since both are featless this arc.

Then Jellal no diff Gray as he vastly above Laxus. One swipe from his hand and Erza was under his Bind Snake. Erza had to resort to cheating to break out of it by fooling Jellal.

Both are featless.

I consider Jellal to be Laxus tier by "hype"

I don't know where Gray is by "hype".
If we scale from Alverez, Gray wins convincingly. He stalemated a stronger version of END than that stomped Dimaria. But no one, not even Juvia, considers him powerful anymore. It's kinda weird.
Damn, Gray is so hard to judge because of contradictory hype.

Considering his "current" hype (which is downright humiliating for Gray IMO), Jellal has higher hype.
But if we scale according to his hype and feats in Alverez, Gray wins

Erza was off guard. I doubt he can do it if she wasn't.

I wouldn't say ez.
Erza, currently and during TOH, couldn't break free from it.
I consider Erza, unbuffed from swords and dragon seal, to be 70% Laxus. She was completely immobilized. Laxus would have a hard time breaking free, if he could at all. But anyway, I don't think he can use it in an actual fight, he needs trickery.

Is this a serious post? Like I can’t even tell at this point.

If you don't think that Laxus could break out of bind snake eazy then idk what to say.

Bind Snake only worked bcs he caught Erza off guard. It literally only works when he seduces Erza to let her guard down. Neither Gray or Laxus will be seduce by Jellal so he can't put it on.

Erza couldn't break at all, both times it was used on her. I didn't say Laxus couldn't break, I said it will be hard if he could at all (we don't know).
I consider normal Erza to be ~ 70-80% Laxus. If Erza couldn't break at all, then at the very least it will be hard for Laxus to break.

And like I and also @Jko said, both times Erza was caught off guard. Until I see the guy use it in a fight straight forward, I'm going to assume that he needs to catch opponents of Erza tier and above off guard.

It's not a hax, just because Erza can't do something doesn't mean Laxus can't. He breaks out of it easy the minute he powers up. Or he just flys around to avoid it.

How would he break free by powering up? We don't know. If it works like a hax (which I think it does), then Laxus needs to be a tier above Jellal to break free. All I'm saying is that we don't know what's the power required to break it, fire pants normal Erza couldn't break it both times.

As for avoiding it, it's not even a question. We're talking of a case where it's already cast.
And I already said that I'm going to assume that Jellal can't use it on Erza tiers and higher without some trickery or catching them off guard. I already agree that Jellal isn't casting it on Laxus in a fight, unless I see feats of bind snake being used straight forward rather than through trickery or off guard.

Anyway, why do you think Jellal wins? Are you going by hype alone?
Gray stalemated a stronger version of END than that stomped Dimaria, I think that means something.
But currently, gray is treated like trash, even worse than Jellal. Nobody believes in Gray hype anymore, not even his own girl.
I put Gray high diff based on previous arc feats, but if we go by current hype Jellal wins high diff.

I think he might able to escape using POF. Laxus will gain a new ability to escape bind snake by chance.

Laxus as of rn is a tier above him no question. Bind snake is featless in battle so it's useless to debate it.

END? Huh that's an anti-feat on Gray if u ask me. He was super bloodlusted, had Slayer advantage and couldn't do shit. Lots of people rn can bypass Dimaria hax

Because Gray and Jellal are featless so we go off hype which makes Jellal win

By hype? No, they're portrayed around the same level.
By feats? Jellal doesn't have any feats rn.

END was bloodlusted as well. Slayer advantage matters only for damage output, Gray was matching him in combat, speed and spell power.
Also, END was mostly human then. He was just slowly transforming. So we can't assume that Gray had the same level of Slayer advantage he had against Mard or Tempesta.

Fair enough. I scale from previous feats, for now.

Feats>>Hype and portrayal. Jellal has no hype as of rn and his portrayal sucks and so does his feats.
Natsu and Gray are "portrayed" as rivals but we all know Natsu would stomp.

END was nothing special either. Had little speed, no named spells and their combat was just fist to fist mostly. Gray's whole life mission was to kill END and at his strongest, he couldn't. Regarding damage output, he put the same amount of damage END did.

Jellal wins as of rn

Edit - Alvarez arc Jellal himself is pretty much featless. His only good feat is one-shotting Neinhart after all. Gray fought against Invel whom he has some resistance against. Don't know why Gray couldn't eat Invel's ice.
