Aren't the others the same though? They have certain names from the legends, but the characters they were based off have little impact on the story, if at all. Sometimes the NNT characters are even composed of more than just one Arthurian character, like Elaine or Escanor.

(I also have a theory that NNT Fathers/Kings/Sons take their characteristics from their entire Arthurian bloodlines to make them more interesting. Like Ban, Mel, possibly Fraudrin too if he's Claudin.)

Plus, these aren't Arthurian legends, not really. This story isn't about Arthur (not really or not now) or the knights of round (who aren't even born right now). It's a story that takes heavily from those legends and gives us a chance to wreck our brains, but it may have other inspirations.

(But I might be biased, because I just - I really think Tristan and Lancelot were quite the idiots. I mean come on.)
Well, but king does not have any name from legend so far which is why I asked. Obviously the author is taking his own liberties here but that doesn't mean it is not weird that king does not have a name fitting a character from the myth like the others do.

So, now that King defeated Albion alone with his best move so far, do you think Disaster is something other than an amplifier?

Ehm, yeah. Its the ST that 'amplify' the abilities, not the other way around. And if Disaster was a simple amplifier, it wouldnt even be perceived as an ability, people would just dismiss it as raw power. Plus, all the sins have a somewhat diverse ability, so even if Disaster DID amplify Chastiefol, that would still have to only be ONE of its effects with that kind of name. We dont even know if that was disaster against Albion.

I can't imagine King using such a powerful attack without Disaster, his pose before the Release was similar to the one against Cain too. St permits them to use their abilities to their full potential but they don't work the same way, King's ST is the most atypical so far, with several forms. Guila said that Disaster allows him to draw out more power from the tree, and there is no way he didn't use it yet in with all his fights. I think Disaster is a passive ability used in conjunction with Chastiefol, a simple ability and he can use it on other things such as when he tried to trigger Cain's rheumatism.

Well, the problem is the lack of context under which his use of disaster would make sense. King has a remarkably complicated skillset all in all, perhaps the most complex among the sins. This is what we know for a fact so far:

Chastiefol is forged from the sacred tree. It has multiple forms, each of which seems to reflect aspects of the tree. King has mentioned how a form is the flower of the tree, the pollen of the tree, the mold of the tree and a number of other things.....

Disaster is king's unique ability. The only time we know for a fact it has been used was against cain whose rheumatism was triggered a bit. Other than that we have been told that disaster is able to draw out the qualities of the sacred tree.

Now, what exactly is going on here? If we consider what we saw with cain then it would seem like whatever disaster is used on should have bad stuff happen to it. So... wouldn't king using disaster on the tree directly kinda hurt it? We also don't see stuff like what happened to cain when things get hit by kings attack. Sure, people get hurt but its not like we see further bad stuff happening. Also, if we consider form 8:pollen garden it seems to be doing precisely the opposite of what disaster should be doing. How can disaster come into play there? I could buy disaster having something to do or otherwise enhancing the forms however to an extent it would be weird because the forms seem to be related to stuff the tree itself can already do and at least one form seems to be the opposite of disaster. Also, if disaster is needed to make the forms it would kinda defeat the purpose of having a weaponized version of the sacred tree. Wouldn't he be able to do the same without chastiefol? And of course, there is the possibility that king is using his disaster on some forms but not in others which would further add to the confusion.

Helbram had the abilities of a number of knights which he could have exploited and yet he never really added anything to his attacks with the tree. That always seemed weird to me...

I am not saying that Disaster is needed for Chastiefol but that he is using it for enhancing his attacks. About Cain, he didn't allow him to use it completely, and what he was attempting to trigger was his rheumatism, it doesn't necessarily hurt but it depends on what he is trying to enhance. Not sure if something like that can be used positively on a human though...

Link adds other's powers to him so I don't see how he could use it along with the tree, Helbram can use his, not all Fairies seem able to use the great tree, from the last chapter the others were using other plants, King and Helbram can do the same, he knocked out Diane with a rose before, but they must be the only ones powerful enough to use the tree itself as a weapon.

I do agree that Disaster might have been used in this fight, but we dont know for sure. And a passive ability would not be noticed. Also, if Disaster was constantly strengthening Chastiefol helbram and Elaine wouldnt have been able to undo its effects that easily.

Disaster was probably used. Maybe that's what caused his nails to fall off. Although having a power than even harms you is weird, on the other hand, I don't see how/why chastefiol real form will rip off King's nails.

Well revenge counter requires Mel to take major damage.

True but that's somewhat different. The damage Mel takes isn't caused by his own ability. Its others that are hitting him with attacks. On its own, his counter ability wouldn't hurt him.

My point is, maybe all abilities have some sort of downside.

That's pretty much what I think. Awhile ago I theorized that Disaster only quality was to cause harm because of several of Chastifol's forms being a defense mechanism of the tree. If King overdoes it with it, it's possible it could end up harming him as well. It might also mean that he and the Chastifol are connected on a deeper level than previously assumed.

To me it looked like that was the result of king exerting too much power in one go. Basically, he released in that moment more power than his body could handle. Its not like only his nails fell off, his entire body started shaking and bleeding more than it was before.

I know all abilities have a downside. I just think its weird that kings own also hurts him. There aren't many abilities that hurt the user.

You hardly see people getting torn up by releasing too much power. I would understand more blood and more shaking but the nails all getting ripped up is weird. Mel released a lot of power when he used revenge counter as well and there were no such effects. Granted Mel is more durable than king but the fact that king releases more power than his body can handle is surprising.
Somehow I think it was an adverse effect of his ability. Then again this is the first time King is releasing this much power so who knows. It doesn't help that we don't know much about disaster to begin with.

but revenge counter doesnt really use his own power, but the power of others. And I think all abilities have different downsides. I only hope King doesnt get too injured. After all, this Albion seemed way more threatening and powerful than the previous one

I already know all abilities have a downside.
As for this albion, no, it wasn't more powerful. Infact, it didn't even show nearly half as much as the other albion.
Well albion is built to react to the opponent's strength so perhaps the slim one didn't show all it was capable of since King's power wasn't strong enough.
You think the slim one was more powerful but that's because king and the fairies couldn't match it. Assuming it had fought Mel, it would have been over in seconds. He'd easily cut it to shreds.

The other albion destroyed Merlin's barrier in 3 punches and was well on its way to blasting Camelot to bits but Me, intervened. Then it multiplied the attack by 5. Swap places and the first fire attack would have likely blown up the FF. If it was the 5 blasts used, probably only ban would survive since he is immortal. The fairy forest isn't particularly large either, if the big albion was thrashing the place like this one did, more than half the place would be gone by now.

Actually this Albion was about twice as tall as the previous one. And it caused way more destruction, that didnt only include the fairy forest. This Albion was either superior or at least eaqual to the other one. It seems to be most likely much faster than the other one so I doubt Mel could have just sliced it up, not to mention that Albions seem to be able to grow body parts at will.

The Albion fought by King was taller and faster, the other was more powerful, bigger and slower, probably more durable. I am not saying that one is stronger than the other, their power levels must be comparable, but saying that Slim Albion's speed would have been a problem for Meliodas is vastly overestimating it, given how slim it is, he could have destroyed its core with a single slash. It did more destruction but the opponents were fodder Fairies + King, the other fought 2 Sins, and the Holy Knights of Camelot, he would have destroyed the whole city and killed a lot of soldiers Meliodas and Merlin.

my point with the speed is, it possibly could have easily dodged or prevented Mel from slashing by attacking while Mel beforehand. And I think the core in both Albions is actually the hardest to destroy, as in a simple slash by Meliodas wouldn't be enough to damage it. Mel used the Albions' own power to destroy it while King used his for now most powerful attack. Btw, this makes me think that maybe Mel and King are two of the three heroes.

I am not sure there is much of a debate about this. I mean, the chapter itself is pretty clear about the power king is releasing, we literally see the power king is releasing which is not a common occurrence in the manga (the only other time we have seen this is when mel used revenge counter). The nail thing probably has to do with the fact that he uses his hands to control chastiefol. With that in mind it is not that weird that he would have gotten hurt like that.
