lucky lucky! have a great holiday! baru balik dari business trip...kena habis kerja 'urgent' tapi dah brained drained, so here i am on MH instead. :smile-big thanx for that explanation too...gosh that's erm..a LOT of dialects! How do u manage when u travel around to the other parts of Indonesia? Been meaning to visit Jakarta and Bali but i heard that english is commonly spoken there. so hopefully, i won't accidentally offend anyone ;)

@boyshaq: good luck in your exams. i still remember those days :p

i really love bali. gr8 beach n a nice place for shopping. plus cheap prices!!!

:eyeroll
they can if both speaks slowly. my indonesian friend cant quite grasp what me n my friends r talking about when we speak malay with daily conversational speed.
as for me, i cant understand what some indonesians r talking about. take for example the movie "ada apa dgn cinta". i understood the movie juz bcoz of how the story goes but not bcoz of the language <--does that make sense?

ada apa dengan cinta = what's up with love
ada apa = what's up
dengan = with
cinta = love

word of the day:
gembira = happy (gembira bcoz exam's over)
what is relief/relieved in malay?

btw you_know_who, rock = batu (not karang), batu karang = reef, mist = kabus (with an S not a T)

Re: The Malay Language

@you_know_who:
Hi! fancy meeting another indonesian here... let's start an indonesian thread :D indonesian and malay is not just similar, indonesian language was derived from malay language with different absorption from everywhere... japanese, portuguese, dutch, and local dialects of course...

well.. like china, they have lots of dialects but Mandarin is their main language... Indonesia is similar in that way... we have lots of dialects but our main language is Indonesian...

lol, yeah..i can't really listen to fast malay... the pronounciation is too different when you speak in fast pace. but i'm used to listening malay speaking coz i spent 3½ years in singapore... :D

relieve = lega? do you have that word in malay?

haha, yeah..kabus - kabut is another different spelling in malay... it's "beza"! (beza = different, it's 'beda' in indonesia)

***off topic***
i'm online from my hotel in Sydney... a short trip.. i'm just taking my mom n dad around sydney for transit.. he's going back to indonesia tomorrow... and i'll be back to brisbane at the same time :( back to the stressful life.....
haven't been reading online manga for 2 days now... i need my daily manga...rarrhhh....
my mom brought me a few manga from indonesia...
Yu gi Oh 36-38 (finally the series ended)
Rave Master (and this series ended too :D but i didn't bring it to sydney with me..)
Detective School Q 20-22 (and this one too... :D)
Our Field of Dream 24-27
Shaman King 20
Detective Conan 44
Ootori Bomber 2-3

lol..that's my share of manga for this holiday :D

****************

WORD of the DAY:
Seronok = Fun
