Although we planned this thread for a long time now, seems we were always to busy with our kids and stuff :D

Welcome fellow mother here at Mangahelpers!
Let's sit together with a cup of tea or a hot chocolate and watch our children colouring our favorite manga books.. :blink ... eeeks ... *hides the crayons*

So, how is life as a mommy AND a mangafan for you? Have you teached your child the first important manga terms from the start? Stand it suddenly behind you when reading a hot Yaoi in the middle of the night? Are you "live-dubbing" the fansubs for your kids? :amuse
Maybe we're just a minority, but we're here! Yay!

And to explain this thread in a short way xD ...

Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

So this is a corner for us mommies as eni said (and daddies are welcome too :amuse). But you can also come in here if you need a little motherly love and advice (maybe even an occasional scolding? :p). So come join us (and our kids) for some fun. :D

Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

Welcome Leen. :D Our first victim er...guest. :XD

This is just a fun little corner for us to play around a bit in, just to show that just because we have kids of our own doesn't mean we have to give up manga. :amuse

So come join us to chat, and ask for advice if you want and in general discuss manga and MH as well. Whatever you want to talk about with us mommies. :amuse

Heehee. Leen chan doesn't know yet.

Maybe we can find more mommies in here. I only know of you two. XD

How do you guys read mangaas online, though? When your kids are asking for food, and your husbands are away? Or you all multi-task?

Eni, you sneaky mommy! XD

Yes, that's a wonderful idea!
I'm kinda tired of how people are omg so surprised when they find out I have a kid. And read manga O:

My daughter is almost 7 years old and she loves Rukia :XD

Well, for me .. I read manga usually in the evening or during kindergarden time. I can't read them when my kids are around, 'cause my son likes to complain about it every time >.>

Asking for food? Do they need that? :XD
I'm a single parent, so my "husband" is never around. I try to use the computer only when my kids are away, in kindergarden or in bed (or i really really really need to work). The PC is always second-rate when they around, that's why my msn says "busy " all the time ;)

Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

Manga kids are taught to prepare food for themselves from a very early age ;)

And yeh, they're not around all the time, and... I tend to read even when she's at home. Though it's almost impossible to make mine stay away from the computer while I'm watching bleach.
Complaints are a part of life and sometimes make you guilty (mom, stop reading naruto already...)

>.<
I admit I have a problem sometimes, whether reading manga makes me a bad mom T_T

That sounds so familiar :darn

But if it's not a bloody chapter, just print it out. My kids love colouring the manga pages and I can read it later again in all rainbow colours (- have you ever saw naruto with pink hair?)^^

I also feel like a bad mommy sometimes, but I think I'm not more "selfish" with my hobby then other mothers too. And unlike other adult hobbies, I can share much of mine with the kids ;)

Re: Manga Mommies' Corner

hi i'm neither a mom nor a father. just a son. i just wanted to say my best wishes to you and ask a question.
what's your family's (i mean bro-sis or dad-mom) or friends reaction when they hear about you watching anime or manga? some of my friends makes fun of me and i'm tired of explaining them what anime and manga is so i just say them i'm watching cartoons and reading comics. so did anything happen to you?

Indead. Most manga addicted mommies I know, are primary into popular shounen.
(That doesn't mean that they don't read other genres as well xD)

My mom thinks that manga are porn, so she thinks I'm reading pervy stuff all the time >.>
The father of my kids dislikes the whole manga and anime genre, so it's not a topic we speak about.
When I'm asked by friends I usually say manga/anime first, but when they look at me like an alien, then I start talking about animated movies and comics in general.
My family and friends know that I'm addicted to media in general, so I think they don't see manga/anime as the fav part.

Indeed, there are problems sometimes.
I'm not surprised when someone looks weird at me, though my friends are just used to me. I got many of them interested in anime, even if just a little. I'm a huge fan of open mind and I just don't like when people judge/speak about something they have no idea about >.>
So I generally try to explain that to people, though i don't really care what they think of my hobbies either.

My mom thinks they are cartoons :oh
And she obviously says I should take interest in something more serious. My dad thinks media (all of them) are a big waste of time, but we also respect our different views, so there is no problem.
My husband does like manga and anime. A little. Just enough to not call me a weirdo and sometimes watch a few eps with me.

And I read lots of porn, which is not related to my manga hobby :p

Okay....here's something from the opposite end....

What advice do you have for me on trying to help my mother, who doesn't read manga nor watch anime, understand why I read manga and watch anime?
I've tried myself, but I get the feeling that it simply goes in one ear and out the other....

Education.
Show her your uuuuunbelieveaaaable interessts in Japan and hooooow muuuch manga can teach you about japanese culture and history :D

To tell you the truth ... I don't know any better. Whenever my kids or my younger siblings starts an hobby that I don't like ... then I try at least to like it as much as necessary >.>

my sister sees all anime as porn, so for my 18th christmas, she got me a ****** movie, thinking it was normal anime. it had tenticles, i hate tenticles. just a story for y'all.

ive got a question for the mothers: how do i get my mom to stop acting like shes as much of an otaku as me? she calls our cat Kotori (whom i named) papa-san after i started using honorifics, although she has no idea what san means, she'll walk in on me watching naruto, and ask if inuyasha has beat that bleach kid yet, and so on and so forth. i know shes just trying to be supportive, but (try as i might) i cant educate her in the way of otaku, and cant get her to stop acting like she knows everything.
