Hey all, I was wondering if you could help me out here. I really enjoy Seinen manga's due to their step away from the norm overpopularized Shounen(I still enjoy those however), so I was wondering if you could help me out by reccomending some Seinen's to read?

I have been reading Gantz and Berserk for years now, and have picked up one or two others but didn't continue reading those. I am thinking about trying out Tenjou Tenge, any others out there that you consider absolute must reads?

Thanks

I don't have anything good to say about Oh Great. He draws pretty pictures but isn't much of a writer. You can do better than Tenjou Tenge. Don't let anyone else lie to you. Click the links for descriptions:

Freesia
Dorohedoro
Mushishi (not well scanlated but amazing)
Vagabond and Real
Liar Game
Everything you can by Naoki Urasawa, Daisuke Igarashi and Asano Inio

Also, if it is serialized in IKKI or Manga Erotics F chances are it is at least interesting. Comic Beam is also starting to intrigue me. Anyway, those are really good places to start.

Zetman is classic, no question. Haven't read Ai - Ren or anything by Nihei yet but plan to. Just started Homunculus, cool series. By the mangaka of Ichi the Killer.

Come on dude, I recommended Ai-Ren a month ago and you still haven't gotten to it? Tsk tsk. I think you'd really enjoy it. It's only 5 or six volumes iirc.

Is Ai-Ren really that good xi0? The story seems very good. Sad, but kinda interesting and learning but I don't know if it's worth the read...

I enjoyed it immensely to be honest. It's a nice little story, that has a smidgen of Sci-Fi in it, but it's mostly a Romance/Tragedy type of story.

Dorohedoro is really good. Crude and original.

Crude definitely describes it :tem

The art is rough but really suits how gritty the story is. Beautiful, detailed art like Zetman wouldn't make as much sense.

I just discovered an absolute seinen gem.

Wolf Guy - Wolfen Crest

It's about a guy who's secretly a werewolf living in modern day Japan. The main character is a total Badass mofo. There are only 19 chapters out now, but definetly keep an eye on it. It's really good.

Anyone have a good action sienen to recomend? Just so you know my preferences I've read Vagabond and theres not one bad thing i can say about it. Closest thing to perfect that a manga can get to.

I read Berserk up to the part where the anime ended. It just got boring and repetative after that...at least it did for me. I know Berserk is like a king of seinen, but I just couldn't make myself read it after about 120 chapters.

Gantz is by FAR my favorite manga of all time. It's perfect x 2. Some people had a hard time accepting Kurono as the main character, but he was one of the reasons I just couldn't stop reading. I've had a man crush on Kurono since the second I saw him tell off that old lady in the first chapter. Gantz = <3

I've read Battle Royale and it was freaking awesome too. I really like the fight to survive kind of stuff.

so any suggestions?

Freesia and Dorohedoro are amazing. Both are gritty, disturbing action/thriller style seinen. Dorohedoro has a little more (black) humor, Freesia is more twisted. Zetman is also good, more of a mainstream seinen.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I read about 30 chapters of Zetman, but I got really bored with it.

Just read the first chapter of Freesia...I can't believe you made me watch a guy have sex on top of his grandma. Sick bastard.

I also read the first chapter of Dorohedoro. I just can't take a guy with a lizard head seriously.

But i did stumble upon Lunar Legend Tsukihime, which i read the first volume of and like. It's about a guy who sees lines on everything and when he sticks either his hand or any kind of knife between the lines he cuts in cleanly in half. It's a bit hard to explain, but its pretty cool. So I'm going to continue reading that.

Sex on a grandma...really?

It's his mother. And it gets better. Later his girlfriend fucks another guy on front of him while he's having breakfast. And the guy is totally cool with it. Hiroshi is definitely one of the best psycho characters ever created.

Dorohedoro is really good too. Gory and funny.

Hiroshi is one of the most messed up, damaged characters I've ever come across. I'm dying to read the last two chapters. The movie was disappointing. Dorohedoro is unstoppable. Such a fun series with a little of everything; violence, nudity, mental illness, lizard men, and mushrooms. But I like just about anything from IKKI, personally.

So what other good series are there in IKKI (complete preferably)?

Bokurano, Witches, Ryuuguuden are the only I can think of that are fully scanlated. Rideback and No.5 are also good but translations have stalled. None of them fall into the crazy, bad ass category Doro and Freesia do but each are interesting and unique in their own right. VIZ has an online site with a lot of series that have not been touched by Manga Editors. It's probably region locked but there are ways to get around that, I'm not sure how to myself though. Manga Erotics F is another good, similar magazine. A lot of artists work in both. Owari to Hajimari no Miles (by the mangaka of Bokurano) and Tropical Citron (mangaka of Freesia) are both worth trying. MEF does not market itself as a seinen magazine, they do underground comics for both men and women, so a lot of their series would fit into josei and yuri anthologies. I'm just starting to explore that magazine.
