It came back in July, all of the new chapters have been scanlated too. It had been on hiatus for so long I would not have started it if it had not returned.

I'll pick it back up then. I need a violent manga fix. I think (not counting the obvious series like Gantz and Berserk) the last extremely violent manga I read was Ichi the Killer....and that was ages ago.

Excellent! My only complaint was that the art is a little plain in volume one but by the end of volume two the art starts getting more detailed.

This year's 20th issue of Shueisha's Business Jump magazine is announcing on Wednesday that Shueisha will launch a new semi-monthly seinen manga magazine called Grand Jump in November. According to Shueisha, the magazine "for liberated adults." Shueisha will provide more details on the new magazine on October 5 in Business Jump magazine's combined 21st/22nd issue — the last issue of the magazine. Shueisha had announced in July that it would end both Business Jump and another semi-monthly seinen magazine called Super Jump, but would launch a new semi-monthly magazine this fall.
Grand Jump will continue the following manga from Business Jump:

The new magazine will also continue the following manga from Super Jump:

In addition to these continuing manga series, Grand Jump will have new manga series and projects.

Interesting that Super Jump got the short end of the stick over the merger. Shueisha really has been busy revamping their seinen/josei line. Last month they announced that "You" (josei) will change from bi-monthly to monthly. Jump X (for men and women) actually has some interesting series in it. And now the two old men's magazines will be closing.

Sounds like they're merging the two demographics more? Would fit the general trend to blurry the lines.

i wonder if there is anyone following higanjima in MH except me . its rare to get zero search results for a manga here : /
there is even a movie of it made in 2009
maybe its a well-known story in japan and the manga isnt where its originated from ?
its not the greatest work out there but i like it nonetheless . read it so that we can talk :D

Oh, sağol. Thanks for pointing the movie out. I'm reading this manga but have stalled it since months because I need to concentrate on finishing university.

But I will look into the movie. It seems to be good :nod

Is your avatar from Kurozuka?

Jump X is being advertised as a "pure manga magazine" not meant to appeal to a single age or gender. It definitely contains a mix of artists that would appeal to both genders but does seem to lean more towards series for adults. Though the artist of Gag Manga Biyori has a series in Jump X, maybe their are more series for teens and I just don't recognize them. The flagship is 87 Clockers, Tomoko Ninomiya follow up Nodame.

Super Jump and Business Jump merging is a case of overlapping audiences. At some point Super Jump ceased to be the intermediary step between Shounen and Young Jump, and became a salary man magazine. Most of the readers are between thirty and thrity-five now. Business Jump's readers are mostly between thirty and fifty.

It's always hard to tell if no one is reading a series or no one is posting about in the seinen forums :/ If you want to start a thread you are welcome to, of course. I'm not sure if their are other fans but no harm in trying. I have been planning on reading but keep putting it off, personally.

Um can someone put a list or something of seinen magazines, most of the threads in the Otaku Shoten are for shounen one? >_<

Not a bad idea. I'll either edit them into the OP of this thread or start a separate thread later today. I may do a thread cause I couldn't hope to write a definitive list on my own.

Would that be made in this section or the regular one for manga magazine?

It would be nice if the magazine list consists of not only the famous manga from them but all of them. And yes, it should be open so anyone can help make the list. :)

Thanks!

My favorite Seinen magazine is Afternoon. If I lived in Japan, that would be the one I would buy.

I'm leaning towards Otaku Shoten, with the other magazine threads. There are Shoten regulars who may be able to find lots of interesting supplemental information (demographics, circulation, and so forth) that would never see the thread over here. I have a lot of recent information on Shueisha magazines but none for the other publishers. A bit unsatisfying since I don't like Shueisha seinen that much.

Don't worry, I'll be sure to have plenty of magazines, not just Young Jump and Young Magazine.

My favorite Seinen magazine is Afternoon. If I lived in Japan, that would be the one I would buy.
I love Afternoon as well as it's brothers, Morning and Evening. If I lived in Japan chances are I would buy Big Comic Spirits though. Since there are only six issues a year, I would also buy Manga Erotics F.

Yes that should be a better idea to put them there, mainly I want to see the magazines grouped so I can have them how do you say "on paper", in place, organized, I get rather confused when I have to search for the magazines.

Hoping the Shoten squad will help out.

It's possibly they will, there are plenty who like posting any news/info they know. I'll have all the magazines I know organized by publisher. There is a huge number of seinen magazines, far more than the other demographics so it will be continuous work in progress.

This is getting offtopic and I'm not entirely sure what you want to do, but since our database isn't as complete as MU's, you may find this thread helpful as reference for listing magazines here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=9924

Note that you find seinen mags listed there not only under SEINEN but also under OTHER (for hybrids) and YURI. The list is usually very accurate (unlike wikipedia and other sources), complete and uptodate. At least last time I checked it.

I can't for the love of gawd remember that one webpage that is basically a huge manga mag/imprint database with very accurate demographic sorting.... grrr >___<

My money would go to IKKI, along with its more mainstream counterpart Spirits.

IKKI is a great magazine, one of my favorites. But I only read one current series, Sunny, though I think that is the only current series being translated. As far as older series Children of the Sea, Number 5, and Noramimi are among my all time favorites. I will admit I kind of prefer the competition; overall I like Comic Beam and Manga Erotics F a little more than IKKI.
