yeah, i cant wait till the new scans comes out....

@ namnam-san, uh, i dont think reira and shin will be shown having patched things up, not at least after a few more chapters. too early to. but yeah, i want reira getting over taku for real in the fastforwards too..as she is the most confused character for me. wanting and claiming she loves shin, but harboring grudge towards taku for her unreciprocated affection. now, isnt that a sign of some remaining affection, however selfish and demanding or wishful kind?though its a wretched kind of love compared to hachi's noble affection towards taku that sort of grew out of firm resolve to remain faithful as wife as circumstance brought her to become, i still regard reira's fastforward scene resentment towards taku as expression of frustration over desire to be loved back. its a sick kind of love that is as existent as real life could get..attitude as real as normal people have. maybe thats why i want to be entertained by a thought that a character/fictional soul got relieved of that kind of burden and have moved on happily, gotten rid of excess emotional baggage.

and really, i want to be assured of takumi's real and raw feelings towards hachi...through a fastforward scene, separated as they are now. that would be really satisfying...just to know taku truly loves her, if he indeed does
[sorry, goal-san. but doubts resurface all the time, i guess.....heck,to boot, im really just practical as well as skeptical. :sweatdrop]

dang, ai, cant help but praise her for her accurate portrayal of human psychological/emotional sways on manga scale.

Does any of you realise that the raw is out? CD has a few pages up translated, but looking at the raws, not much advancement :s

Are you a takumi x hachi fan? I"m totally hoping for that to happen too! But they staying apart in the future etc just don't seems to give a good vibe. IT sounds so complicated esp. when Reira seems to be in the same location as Takumi. As for reira, i wish she's with shin cos I want takumi to go back to hachi. She shouldn't cling on to him for whatever reasons she had. She sounded like so looking desperately for someone to love her back.

Thanks for your responses to two of my questions Nami. I am quite sure that Reira will not end up with Tukumi (romatically). Enough to bet on it.
But I am not a 100% sure so I wont ask you to bet on it with me, coz I dont like taking others down with me, haha.

I am also perhaps biased because for me, the highest point of Nana is the relationship of Tukumi and Hachi and I enjoyed that form of romance more than Nana & Ren. Plus I am a big Tukumi fan, so far and also the Hunour Nana's personality brings.
Hmmmm I definitely am expecting Tukumi to have real feelings of love towards Hachi and only Hachi. So if i am wrong, then this means that my take on the manga was slightly off.

yeah, i think most of followers feel a bad vibe on reira being strategically closer to taku than nana is, in the fastforward. i think its because we're seeing the possibility of them being entangled deeply [since they already had that sick 'lover' issue] or, on the other hand, by entertaining the idea that taku's deliberate avoidance of reira might actually be because of his undisclosed attachment to reira, we taku-hachi fans actually tend to be jealous for the couple's relationship, and taku getting closer to the one hachi is considering closest rival to takus heart is more than enough to set our suspicions on..that is,because we're mostly reading about the story on hachi's point of view..

I am also perhaps biased because for me, the highest point of Nana is the relationship of Tukumi and Hachi and I enjoyed that form of romance more than Nana & Ren. Plus I am a big Tukumi fan, so far and also the Hunour Nana's personality brings.

taku-hachi over ren-nana for me too.

and nana's pride is indeed a pattern of those having strong character--dignity in spite of getting hurt in the process. and btw, nana is in rumble of emotions .. feigning indifference but her inner turmoil is betraying her.

i too want a clear revelation that taku really meant it in his effort to shove nobu out of their picture, tactically, because he's determined to make nana only his out of sure affection [quote him: 'in the end, we choose to love the person who pleases us the most']...i think he has this plainly straight view of love, that whoever pleases him in most ways is someone whom he considers as love, which in actuality is right, because we always love and cherish object we find most satisfying just having/being with.... which means, hachi might really be one for him, being the one he chose to tie the knot with...i want that as an underlying reason to the other given reason for his marriage to hachi, which is just because he got her pregnant--because i like to think he did it purposely [to father the child] to achieve his intention.>>>'i want you only to be only mine'

mushy? :p

I see what you are saying duchess. So the question is WHY DID TUKUMI SUGGEST MARRIAGE TO HACHI?
I am glad you quoted Tukumi and that quote makes a lot of sense to me and allows us to understand Tukumi's take on love. Good point!!
But at that point, I am not sure he was in love with Hachi. Besides it being “suitable” for Hachi and him, I am quite convinced he had very strong feelings for Hachi.
The third time he goes to see Hachi (vol 6 ch 20, p2), right before that he is seen relaxing by himself and reflecting. He seems to be in a serious mood(vol 6 ch 20, p9-10). So if he went straight after that to see Hachi it means that Hachi was just not another lover he only wanted to play with. Hachi was too important to all the people around him for him to play with her. He has more feelings for her than most realised. You can see elements of surprise in reactions from different characters towards Tukumi’s actions towards Hachi throughout the manga.

Hachi had told Tukumi not to come over during the summer vacation (vol 7 ch 21 pg 27)and when Tukumi was telling Ren he missed her he said he couldnt wait for the summer vacation to end(vol 8 ch 25 p.41). The day Misako left (probably marking the end of the summer vacation) that very day Tukumi pays Hachi a visit. Before he goes to see Hachi, Naoki is seen talking with Yasu and he tells Yasu that "Tukumi went over to see Hachi as he was thinking about it all day when he left without a word" (Vol8ch 27 pg 15). Now if a work obsessed guy has been so occupied with Hachi and others notice that, that must mean he really likes her , as Naoki states as well.

He liked her? Yes. She pleased him the most? Yes. He wanted her all to himself? Yes. He realised he had strong feelings for her? Yes. ( When Ren told him the reason you miss her is because deep down inside you love her. He thought about it and then seemed to have not resented that idea at all, from his reaction(vol 8, ch 25, pg 41). Secondly, he realised the strong feelings when he walked into her apartment the night he finds out she is pregnant. Remember when Hachi said go home. He turned and held the door knob and then turned back around. I believe he realised his strong feelings again at that point. And then said “And..What if I don’t want to go. Then what do I do?”. He was possessive. He isolated her from blast in her new apartment. He was jealous of Nobu as well. He is always aggressive with Hachi after he sees her with Nobu.
But I think Hachi also grew on him after they got married. The baths together. They really seem to had fun together and bonded. And Tukumi was learning how affectionate and pure Hachi is when she I(i) tries to help shin and asks him to and (ii) when she gives importance to nana's wedding over hers. And towards the last few chapters he started missing her when she wasnt home. So I think the love developed.

Another point: Hachi has never expressed her true feelings to Tukumi directly either. And that is also pointed out as one of Hachi's weak points by Jun Chan (vol 7/chapter 24, pg 28/167 ). That one of the reason why Shouji could have chosen Sachiko is because Hachi was never able to express her feelings to him. Shouji thought she didnt love him enough or as much as Sachiko. Even with Tukumi, Tukumi has seen that she runs into the arms of men when she is lonely and that she is an opportunist. And perhaps she is with him because he is offering her a home and fatherhood to her child. Hachi herself didnt know why she chose Tukumi. But later on after Tukumi said dont marry me, I will still support you (vol 10 ch 34, p10). She confesses to Jun Chan that she wants to marry him coz she loves him(vol10 ch 34 p13). So I think that what they both feel for each other is real love. But they both have reason to doubt the other's feelings and they both have not been clear enough and expressive enough with both their words and their actions. I will say Tukumi has expressed his love verbally but his actions are questionable and Hachi is not expressive verbally but her actions show her love for him. In all her previous relationships when she gets hurt she flees but this time she chose to stick around and be there for Tukumi.(Good character development by Ai Yazawa).

I have one more thing I would like to discuss. IS REN TUKUMI’S CHILD OR NOBU’S? The last time Nana had her period before her pregnancy was July 6(vol 8 ch 26, pg 6). So that is the next day after Trapnet's tour ended which was July 5 (Vol 5, ch 16, pg 3). She ofcourse slept with Tukumi that night. So she would be ovulating exactly 2 weeks from then, which is July 20. The next time she sees Tukumi is in exactly 2 weeks(vol 6 ch 20, pg 1). She mentions that she hasnt heard from him in 2 weeks and that night when Nobu walked her home, Tukumi showed up infront of her apartment. The next person she sleeps with after that is again Tukumi on July 29th, when Blast have their performance. Then 2 days after that is the first time she sleeps with Nobu. She has a relationship with Nobu till Aug 31 ( 9 days after the firewords which were on Aug 22(vol 7ch23 pg 12). On the night of Aug 31 Tukumi shows up at Hachi's door and finds she is pregnant.
So during the possible dates of ovulation/conception which are July 19-21, she only was with Tukumi. Another pointer ofcourse is the fact that Nobu used condoms each time. Now why does Ren have Nobu's hair? I dont know about that. He seems to have Tukumi's eyes! Anyway I am quite positive it is Tukumi's child because of the dates that I have calculated and I hope you are convinced too.

that^ im convinced, goal-san. i have also made a rough note on the timelime of events.
what we only need now is further confirmation. we were just slightly unsure because of lil ren's lighter hair color, but since its a manga, we really cant determine what haircolor it is. besides, hachi is lighthaired too, so the kid could have gotten that haircolor from her.. but indeed when naoki noted that the child's got fierce eyes, that made me think the kid's indeed taku's child.

what bothers me now is the real score between them. is it really just hachi trapped in the circumstances of the past and wanting to catch and patch things up with nana that she rather chose to be far from takumi or is it because midway between the flashbacks and forwards, something yet unravelled to readers caused her to think the arrangement was better that way? i think her preferring to wait for nana to come back than moving on with her married life really showed she has stronger attachment to nana than takumi. and to think that taku, selfish and strategic as he is, on the other hand, was helpless with nana's insolence on that matter!! its like a genius overruled by the simple! im not bashing nana's character, but as the story portrays her, she is weak, naive, lacking confidence and tame with alternate dashes of sincerity and calculativeness [in other words, she has colorful personality but that instead fascinated the too sophiscated and jaded people of the rockworld, so much that it made naoki thinking she was strategic enough to be able to make taku fall for her] so i think there has to be more weighter reasons for being separated than just to be able to wait for nana.

unless, of course, she just find she couldnt move on totally unless shes seen nana o. settled on her course and wanted to repay her accordingly for all the good things that came along with having cross paths with the punk singer.

and i want faster revelation of what made taku go to england; i think it didnt have anything to do with music anymore since trapnest's disbanded. but since all the other members are there too, that made me wonder ..and, since reira isnt singing but was there along with the others, that made me wonder more.

Re: [Shoujo] Nana by Yazawa Ai

I have a few questions for my nana-fan friends. I would like your opinions on the following:

1. In chapter 57 pg 46, when Takumi looks at Hachi and Hachi looks back, what feelings between them was the author trying to show through their expression?
In my opinion it seemed as they both still loved each other.

2. In chapter 70 pg 10, when Jun says to Hachi, " arent you getting a divorce?" and Hachi says "the way things have turned out, there is no need to get a divorce". and then Jun says, "there should be plenty of reasons".
What do you think are the reasons for a divorce?
Is it because Hachi finds out about Reira and/or Sukumi ( the tv actress!)

3. Do you think Ran is older than Satsuki or are they twins?
I think ren is older.

4. Guys I am so looking forward to the future chapters. Imagine when the time comes when Hachi finds out about Reira and Tukumi. Do you think she will find out directly or hear it from someone who finds out before her? Hmmmm. I think after she finds out she will not react like she did when she found out about shouji. The author hinted if she didnt fight for him she would lose him. Sachiko fought for shouji and then she got him. I think we will see Hachi maturing and not running away this time.

5. I am also looking forward to how Tukumi is when Hachi is giving birth. He will go through a lot of emotions and that will be very interesting.

Re: [Shoujo] Nana by Yazawa Ai

i don't think there is anything more to fret over between reira and takumi, goal. because they stopped it already, remember?

i also think ren is older than satsuki. that's why his name is ren, because the baby that Hachi is having at the time of Big Ren's death is the boy.

i'd also been thinking about what reasons there could have been that Jun mentioned, enough to insist to hachi to get a divorce. Firstly, children are a big part of the decision when there's a divorce, because it looks like Takumi is a really good father, except for the absence part. Hachi wouldn't want to give the children that scar when they absolutely love their father. maybe Jun was thinking about the distance, or that Takumi cheated on her a lot of times in the past, etc. But Hachi understands Takumi deeply, so for her it's okay. besides, she's a very strong woman.

@duchess,

i think i can't relate if there are any paris references. but if it should look like the eiffel, i think that's the tokyo tower instead. they are kinda similar.

^yeah, when i found out about it[tokyo tower], i was reduced to feeling so very hick :lmao. but heck, who cares, anyway?:kukuku

and, goalsan.

i was thinking of bringing this up too, but didnt have enough time and forgot about it. good thing your recent post reminded me of it... my take on that: there's a sad note on their smiles...their eyes got this soft but lonely look. its making me think their family is just being saved from falling apart by some sort of unstated effort..we can conclude this also by the seeming hesitance to close their gap otherwise seen in a cheerful welcome greeting. and this mood is rather prominent in hachi's expression than takumi's. since i see that scene[welcoming hachi home] as the most recent of the fastforward events, i think the couple's facial expression is indicative of both wishful thinking and a flatly helpless-but-anyway-this-arrangement-will-do attitude, which is, as actually randomly tackled as nana's hopeful forbearance throughout the story's development.

ahh, sorry, i tend to be longwinding when discussing.

Re: [Shoujo] Nana by Yazawa Ai

Thanks for your response. I have another question. Please refer to chapter 54pg 18, Takumi is dealing with meeting Search and trying to dissolve the threat of Search publishing a rumour between Ren & Reira. Narita suggests using scandalous gossip involving Takumi in exchange for letting the Reira Ren rumour go. Takumi then thinks about Sumika (ch 50 pg 46).
And Later he allows his marraige for Hachi to go public. And then in chapter 62 pg 34, Hachi meets the search reporter when she is in Nana's hometown and he uses the word "sacrifising yourself" in order to protect the Reira Ren rumour. And when the reporter finds out Takumi didnt tell Hachi anything he says "how cruel".
So from this I deduce Takumi told them that he was a married man and yet had an affair with Sumika. (QUESTION) Do you think thats the deal he made with search at that time?

Also have you all read the 70 page Takumi extra that appears after chapter 69? In that we learn Takumi had made another girl pregnant before and he thought her pregnancy was bothersome. He didnt offer to support her immediately ,as he offers Hachi later, and was relieved when she suggested abortion(as a choice, most probably as she didnt feel any support from Takumi). Takumi came up with the money for the abortion.
Also in chapter 28 pg 11, the author purposely showed Takumi picking up the phone Hachi left behind and Takumi seeing Hachi and Nobu's picture on Hachi's cell and then remarking "So you love him that much". Due to this, later on we see continue to see Takumi's jealousy and possessiveness when it comes to Hachi, also manifesting in being aggressive sexually with Hachi. (Question) Do you think Takumi would be this demanding/aggressive with another woman as he is wih Hachi?
He has a desire to capture Hachi as a woman(lover), who is only his and is unwilling to let go of her. He has never had this attitude towards a lover before.

Takumi basically does "trap" people. He trapped Ren. He trapped Reira. He trapped Hachi.

This Extra on Takumi really sheds light on Takumi's relionship with Reira. After reading that I felt that Reira is very important to Takumi. His bond with her is very strong and seems to be stronger than his bond with Hachi, as it is from childhood and a deep bond. Tukumi answers what Reira means to him and calls her his sanctuary. Something like an angel, pure, beautiful, with a lovely voice. The only thing that comforted him in his troubled past. He would sit and hear Reira sing and that was the best feeling for him. He thought her singing was the most beautiful thing in the world. He never saw her as anything other than a pure angel. And he didnt want her to ever get spoilt/tainted and wanted to protect that. He realised Reira loved him and got disgusted with the thought of tainting her himself. He also didnt like her going out with Yasu, because he wanted to protect her purity. So in my opinion, Ai Yazawa points out that this was an unrealistic dream. And Reira who always loved Takumi was suffering from attitude. She called it an "illusion" and wanted Yasu to taint her. It is shown that night Yasu asks her not to mention Takumi and he takes her virginity.
In the end Takumi wishes that Reira continue to sing and that she sings by his side.
It is important to note the position of this Extra. As in the subsequent chapters Reira will ask Takumi to sleep with her.
So after reading that so you guys think,(QUESTION) Can Takumi ever love Hachi enough to make her and his family a priority? Do you think will he change over time?

no. it can't be. what the reporter probably meant by "how cruel" is because Hachi didn't realize that the article about their marriage was just a cover-up. the thing is, Takumi could never reveal any of his affairs to the media because he never trust the media to keep it a secret. besides, if Takumi told Search about Sumika, do you really think Search could keep quiet over that?

Also have you all read the 70 page Takumi extra that appears after chapter 69? In that we learn Takumi had made another girl pregnant before and he thought her pregnancy was bothersome. No, Takumi didn't think the pregnancy was bothersome, but the thought that the girl blamed him for everything, when in fact the fault was by both of them. that's why when he found out that Hachi didn't even tell him that she was pregnant, he thought it was adorable in the sense that Hachi didn't blame him for anything, and that's why he liked that about her.

So after reading that so you guys think,(QUESTION) Can Takumi ever love Hachi enough to make her and his family a priority? Do you think will he change over time?
thats why i doubt about taku's real feelings. it seems taku has a deep but suppressed affection towards reira, the way he got too serious and concerned over reira's affairs compared to his light and materialistic dealings with his shallow wife. and i remember hachi noting none can make taku cry the way reira could[that, after he went home greatly stressed after reira rebutted she will continue singing not for just taku]. if he really want reira to stop caring for him, that announcement should have been a great relief...but the effect on taku was quite the opposite. he turned out frustrated and depressed. and that he said reira was special than anyone else is more than a clue to me. it really was a revelation . how could the person more special than anyone else for you be not the the person you love the most? so reira has to be. and there was also that when reira claimed that taku's kiss was very passionate, taku tried to dismiss it by saying it was what reira wanted [in an effort to keep her motivation to sing? teh, liar :notrust>>>>>>>{taku had warned hachi not to believe everything he said, so im taking his word for it]...

i think the matter ai was trying to puzzle us with was clearly just as what shin asked nobu...when two people get together driven by lust, can love tie them? so its some sort of proposition we're getting from ai...can hachi and taku, or reira and shin, nobu and whats-her name-boldie, initially just overwhelmed by lust, possibly fall in love and be bound by it when they have somebody else they really love?

but if i were to say my conclusion,i think there is a possibilty of takumi realizing the weight of the things he has at hand[family and wife] in the end...but not without messing up first that would bring that kind of dawning upon him.

else, this could yet be yazawa's most disturbing and addicting mangawork with unidealistic but matter-of-fact-ly end[that hachi and taku split up for good, to put it, bleh :xp]

Re: [Shoujo] Nana by Yazawa Ai

Just read the newest chapter (82) and....
It seems duchess of dork is right on the money. Reira appears to be the most important figure in Tak's life. He hasn't contacted Hachi for two weeks because he's been busy sitting by Reira's bedside (she had some sort of mental breakdown). It's pretty clear he values Reira a smidgen more than Hachi.

Re: [Shoujo] Nana by Yazawa Ai

Ok I signed up just so I can get to ask this question. hehe.

After all the discussion, evaluation, interpretation and so forth about Hachi and Takumi and Reira, you obviously can tell he likes Reira more (childhood friends who's always together especially in their type of business, will always stick up for each other and stay together) :-
WHY does Nana and Takumi has a second child? This to me is very perplexing as we can definitely see from the chapters starting from him sleeping with Reira till the latest ones that his whole demeanor and outlook seems to focus more on Reira and Trapnest than his pregnant wife. And we all know that a woman who has just given birth can't really have sex for a good 3-6 months depending on their "condition". So I would think that their relationship is starting to strain/go downhill from this point on, so why the 2nd child? Or are we gonna get a huge shocker in the future chapters about the 2 Ichinose's children? That is, they both share the same father but not the same mother or they are not related at all. And we have yet to see little Ren communicating with Nana. Like calling her "mom" or at least acknowledge that she is his mother.
