Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Just read the chinese version. Sometimes Nana's self realisation is just so awfully factual that it's depressing..

Anyway, what do you guys think it means by the burning of the note in the last page?

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Finally got all the pages, thanx celestial :)
Actually, i did expect more from this chapter, it was good but not great.
About the note burning, we can only hope that it means he is ready to join the rest of us in the human world and stop nailing everything with 2 legs and a hole. But, then again, we should not count on it.
It was a big setback for the Layla & Shin alliance in this one, especially when chapter 70 invoke so much hope.
One thing that keeps bugging me in this manga though: They are punks, they play in a punk band (or punk-ish band) right? Yet everyone seems shocked to find out about stuff like Shin smoking some harmless weed and stuff like that? Ffs, Sid shot people, did every kind of drug known to man (and prob invented one or two), and set the standard for a punk star that few can live up to, so why is all this such a big deal? Is this typical japanes media or is it a manga-thing?

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

well, chapter 71 out... more thing to discuss. i really really think from the very begingning, nana is not suitable with takumi. she is more match with nobu instead. she need to be loving and carring (surely), of coz she divoce with takumi later that is easy to understand.
and do takumi really is with reira now? and what's mean "r u sure u only want to be one of my many lovers?". what a evil and flir takumi? and what will happen if reira answer no? as he said she is very special to him, then will he break off with nana and together with reira immediatly?
i'm kind of understand, but i can't stop myself from scolding them "stupid" (abit angry and cry actualy). why r they must wait until now? until now? when he already have wife, when she tried to fall in love with many other man. why? why from the very beginning, they didnt say one word to each other, then everything better, though? (sorry for my emotion)
is it fair for nana? is it ok for reira? how reira face nana later? and takumi is till be a evil (i hate, hate, hate a hate him though, he make me cry alot of time)
at the end, yasu still be a hero (i like him all the time).
does takumi ever love nana?
...

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

kyaaaa. I just read the chapter.

I'm disappointed in Takumi! What a big letdown. What did he mean to do with Reira? When I still think that he doesn't love her like that! Is it because of pity?

I mean, you anti-Takumi people might say "told you so" but it's still so vague what his objectives are!

And Reira! home-wrecker! :crying

Agree with you baboysai, still to early to know what Takumi is thinking. Im probly one of the "anti-Takumi", good character design though, but im sure he knows that if he jumps Reira, he will start hating him self.

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

the chapters are also distributed in Mangatraders.com

This is a series of reflections, actually. I refrain from stating unfounded stuff and prefer asking a lot.

By saying "you are the most special person to me" to Reira, and then telling her "are you sure you just want to be one of my women?" means that this was a change of position in Takumi's heart for Reira. That to be just "one of his women" would mean losing her "innocence" or purity that Takumi has revered for so long.

My question is, what does Takumi mean by all of this? Did he in fact, love Reira as a woman and respected her, and that because she has again asserted herself for him, he has given in to the temptation? If so, was he holding back only because he thought he was unworthy of her love, or that he didn't love her like she wanted at all?

However, right after the kiss, Takumi announces to the world that he should get work done to go home to his wife. Does this show that my assumptions on Takumi's character is still correct? That when he accepts lovers, they do not at all compare to the woman he actually loves? And then a follow-up question on that would be, is Hachi really that woman?

Probably his expression of guilt shows that he has actually "cheated" for the first time? That all the women he's had so far he had no emotional attachments to, and that this time with Reira, he might not keep his emotions at bay?

And yet, he burned the letter. Does this give us a sign that Takumi has ultimately decided that he will not have any feelings for Reira, and that since she has agreed to become one of his lovers, she will no longer be as important as she was?

Also, when Reira heard about Takumi saying stuff about going home, she had a certain expression. Though from that panel I could not decide if it was guilt that she had wrecked the "family" of Takumi and Hachi, or that of regret that even after surrendering herself and losing her pride, she could still not "get" Takumi.

kyaaa. So many questions, and so many chapters to go!

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

yeah! I now have a partner! :kukuku

you guys have the slightest ideas, or opinions about the questions I posted? >.<

Here's an outsider's take on the whole issue. Because I asked a friend who's never heard or read about Nana before, and I just told her the story like they were real persons so she would really judge it like so.

This is what she said: she thinks that Takumi really loves Hachi, based on the fact that he considered marrying her, and for telling her that she's no.2 (since the baby is no. 1), and that he always stressed that he must come home to his wife (trips to england, and the recent chapter).

She also thinks that, because actions speak louder than words, what Takumi said about Reira was irrelevant, and it doesn't matter who loved whom for how long.

Well, of course we can't take her word for this because she has never read the story, and it's her own opinion. I just thought it was amusing to hear it from a different point of view. ^^

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Well, i do agree with one thing: Takumi dont love Reira, the "are you sure you just want to be one of my women?" was more likely a last try to get her to forget him.
Do Takumi love Hachiko though? Im afraid not. He loves the image of a family, and he loves it harder then anyone ells since he is not capable of staying faithful or probly even love someone.
We should not judge Takumi, he is like everyone ells in this manga: weak minded (well, not Yasu, he is more of a martyr) :D

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Well why did he hold back for the longest time? man that gets me every time. -_-

I quite agree that he might love the image of family more, since he never had a proper one.

I think that's why he also has a certain attachment to Hachi is because of her likeness to his sister, of their similar dispositions. Also, I'm guessing, from the Takumi story, it was shown that he had made another girl pregnant, and the girl kept blaming her and he felt that they should be responsible together, instead of him just giving money and aborting the child.

However, when Takumi discovered about Hachi's pregnancy, she did not blame him at all, and he saw her willingness to keep the baby. At first I could not get it why he wanted to marry her, but now that Svart mentioned it, maybe that's the reason.

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Personally I think takumi does love Hachi in his own way. But like all of you or most of you I agree that he def. does not love Layla in that way, to him she's more like a trophy.

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

I think, Takumi doesn't think of "love" and "lust" in the same way. I don't think reira is a trophy for him, i think he loves her much more than hachi, but now.. why doesn't he marry her then? Because of the baby? Or does he really love her (nana)?
If so, then I'm a bit disappointed and I don't like his way of "love". Poor Hachi.
Lalamesilly, I think you're right in one point.. he loves hachi "in his own way".

Re: Nana by Ai Yazawa - Discussion

Takumi is so complicated to understand. You never know what he's going to do next. Actually I was really surprised that Takumi decided to marry Hachi (partly being that I read Takumi's side of the story first). Let me correct myself, not like a trophy but more like a safe haven, something that makes him comfortable??? And if there is love given to Reira, I def. do not think that he loves her as a woman, but more like a sister someone he needs to protect.

Oh yea and a random question that goes off topic about Takumi and Hachi:

What do you people think about Shin and Layla pairing? Do you people think they were together out of love or something else?
