Re: The NFL Thread

He's a running back, his career could be over tomorrow. Yes he's an exceptional talent, but I'm saying look at the team around him. It's akin to the Lions holding onto Barry Sanders for all those years just to sell tickets. The Jaguars are just an awful franchise and have been since Brunell left. The money they would have to shell out to MJD could go to fix multiple holes in their team, not that I think their personnel department is competent enough to do that, just look at how crappy they've been. That franchise might not be long for Jacksonville.

My point is I see benefits to doing both.
They're just a bad franchise. If they sell MJD, people will stop coming to games, and then the Jags won't be in Jacksonville much longer. If they keep MJD and hope to draft a star like Matt Barkley or someone similar, maybe things can work out.

No one goes to games with him there...

It's Tagliabue's fault to be honest.

Well, at least there are some fans in the stadium right now. If you take away MJD, what few there are will vanish.

Yeah but it's still not viable or successful with him. The only reason the franchise doesn't go under is because of profit-sharing. LA must look incredibly sexy to the owner right now.

Oh, indeed. Revenue sharing is the only thing keeping a few teams afloat at the moment. I more or less expect the Jags to end up in LA in the next few years.

Re: The NFL Thread

What would be wrong about ditching a small market with no interest and just an awful team? It's not as if San Diego's any good. Oakland struggles a lot, and the only California team that's any good are the 49ers. I mean, bringing another team to California could be good.

There's also the scenario of the Chargers moving to LA. I've heard that as well, and it seems more plausible than another team moving there.

Re: The NFL Thread

The Rams moving back is as likely, or more, than San Diego. If a deal is not struck this year to renovate the Edward Jones Dome than the Rams can terminate their lease after the 2014 season. Negotiations are not going well, Kroenke is driving a hard bargain. From what I have read it sounds as though he wants to move.

From the NFL's point of view: everything. The NFL has long took pride in being able to sustain franchises in small markets. The league started in medium size Midwestern cities; Canton, Green Bay, Akron, etc. The economics of the league are built around parity and allowing small markets to compete against big markets. Notice that the NFL left LA eighteen years ago with no talk of expansion. They certainly will not cry for Jacksonville if the Jaguars move to Los Angeles, nor will they help facilitate such a move. If a team moves it will be more about the league saying "fuck you" to whichever city has the nerve not to provide publicly financing for a new stadium (or renovations). LA is nothing more than leverage; look at how events played out last year in Minnesota.

Perhaps, but that's what happens with RBs. Chris Johnson hasn't been the same since his holdout.

True, that's another factor with players finally getting paid big money. But Forte has a much better offense and team than either of them.

Giants. No one picks for the Cowboys to win unless they're one of their "fans" :hee

Re: The NFL Thread

G-men but I'm looking forward to watching it. There is a chance of big time storms. Nothing better than a football game in a during a rainstorm.

With the possible exception of Ravens Steelers in a blizzard.

Re: The NFL Thread

If there's storms...that means maybe lightning. In which case the game could be delayed or cancelled.

Re: The NFL Thread

I can't really see the Giants losing this game, but they'd underperformed every season after 07-08, so...I don't think Tony Romo's very good at all, so Giants by 10-14.

All credit to the Cowboys for getting this done.
