Basically with no timeouts on forth down with almost no time left Rivers threw to a receiver who caught the ball for a first down fell down and then got up to run it. As he got up he was hit by two Bills defenders and fumbled the ball. Recovered by the Bills. But Refs then called down by contact before the fumble on the receiver. Which it wasn't. Then the Bills challenged. The refs upheld the call. But it was plain to see the guy's knee was up on the video when the first defender touched him. That was definitely a fumble in my book. Game should have ended right on that play.

Uhh, I think if you could have every angle available that he might have not been down by contact, but with the angles that were available I'm not sure if there was undeniable proof to overturn it. Now, if it was ruled a fumble on the field, then that would have likely stood though.

For me the Colts lost that game due to Reich's decision making. Taking 3 pts off the board by going for it on 4th down so early in the game when on the third down play they lost like 5 yds. The really questionable choice to go for 2pts when they were down 2 TDs. I think he lost the plot.

I'm sure that was the rational for not overturning it but the angles seemed so clear. The guy's knee comes off the ground and the hand isn't touching him in one of those frames. Seemed very cut and dried to me.

IIRC, every angle I saw didn't really show the play from behind him, or rather from closer to the middle of the field. Like, there's an angle showing the knee coming up but it obscures the defender making contact with the ball. It seems the book is basically saying there can't be any doubt ever for them to even consider overturning plays. Like the refs are supposed to act like they have a memory of a goldfish and no assumptions can be made at all

The other part of this is you can't tell me the the following snap didn't go off before there was an official's timeout. Like, it doesn't matter if the call came from the league office in NY, an entire play was almost ran before they blew it dead... lol

The view from behind and the one from the players right side were pretty telling, IMO.

The one from behind the receiver showed pretty explicitly that the knee was up and that the defenders left hand did not contact the receiver before that point. The view from the receivers right side showed that the defenders right hand contacted before the left hand did. So, like I said, pretty cut and dried to me. I understand not wanting to call that because it literally would have decided the game right then and there. But it was quite simply a blown call.

The snap issue is a whole other deal. No idea what was going on with that, but the review happened.

Yea I agree. Bills were outplayed on the field but we got lucky. Can't let it happen again in the second round.

I will say the Browns OL is amazing. Especially Willis.

I think you can count them out. It all comes back to the running game. Steelers can't run the ball. Used to be the flaws in the offense were compensated for in the defense. But injuries hamstrung that. Which pretty much pushed everything onto the passing game. When Big Ben or his receivers have a bad day there really isn't anything to fall back on.

We just coasted into the playoffs on the team we were before the injuries. That's why I was telling you the Bills beating us wasn't as big a deal as you thought.
