He found a new island. He didn't cure his disease but he had fun along the way. With everything we know of WB, who can honestly say his dream, in his remaining years, is to go after something that he couldn't do for 20 years? He's so strong, but I think even he knows, his time is coming up.
That's why I believe Shanks wanted to intervene. Ace is the new generation. He has more of a shot in his youth than WB is giving him. To make him go after Blackbeard, alone, tells me that the rules for WB are strict (even if we can see them as fair) but limit the upward mobility of his own crew. But what are you going to do if you're part of the biggest crew out there and being treated like family?
Shanks didn't go to Raftel. Gol D disbanded the Jolly Roger Pirates a year before his execution. In that year, he found Raftel and left One Piece there. So Shanks may be pursuing it just out of respect for Gol D's legacy. Other than that, as a Yonkou, he is really a tremendous force as it is.
Yeah, but to me at least, Shanks and Luffy care about being free spirits. They don't necessarily want to conquer anything. Just roam and find adventure everywhere they go.
Again, Whitebeard is the strongest Yonkou and man in the world. Even with that title, He has not been named "Pirate King." Not by anyone, not even by himself. He roams freely on his ship, caring for his nakama. To me, he is too close to them to really think rationally to get to Raftel and truly conquer the Grand Line. He's held the status quo for 20 years, needing a shakeup. I believe, somewhere in his mind, he knows that he will always be runner up to Gol D. Gol did something even WB could not do.
