One Piece Mega Convo Thread, the 2nd Chapter

i saw not that much of the new german anime but they fouled many things^^ how did they show the part with zoro and kuma? i fear watching that episode

I actually started with One Piece on RTL2 way way back. 2001? It was cool at first, no editing and all that crap. Then, for some reason, during Skypiea arc, they started cutting scenes out. Like, Luffy is just about to punch Enel with rifle, but you don't see the actual punch, there's just fist coming in and Enel flying back.
Fortunately, by that time, I already had me mah fast internets.

EDIT: I just remembered I still have all those VCR tapes on which I was persistently nad relentlessly recording German One Piece episodes. Probably have more than 20-30 long tapes lol. It's been so long.
Might get a kick out of watching them one of these days. Brush op on my German and all...

Also, the first opening was outa this world. When I see, read or hear "One Piece", this song is one of the first things that comes to my mind lol.

As you wont give up with your "equal-theory", why not stop it already? Being a wiseacre, not giving up on your thougths, it's getting tiresome. Showing one single frame where it's shown or mentioned that they are equal would be enough, but you can't. Just as Mihawk never tried to use one of his stronger "Eye-zooming" attacks on Vista.

I just reacted to the whole grasping denial nonsense going on, not enjoying this in the least, or having a personal investment in it, and the argument of cutting it out definitely goes both ways. I find what you are doing annoying after all.

In any case, the two were having a rather prolonged fight off-page, and then decided to split up apparently deadlocked. To me that's something concrete and tangible, whereas any theories of Mihawk supposedly holding back or similar are theories unless this is stated. He may have beaten Vista if he had another half hour to do it, for all we know, as there is no such thing as exact equals (or he may have had a stomachache, or... and vice versa) but that's still a very close level.

I'm saying go with what's been shown and leave it at that until we get anything further. That's all. It's far less of a wild theory than any of the rationalisations, and as such there's hardly anything odd about it.

Additionally my neglected clue on his words "Time to finish this" should be indication enough, of how serious he was. Kizaru and Rayleight did fight for some time too, does that make them equal too?

If a stalemated battle would be all we had to go on? Yes, unless indicated othervise. On the other hand I seem to remember Rayleigh straining in the confrontation, but may misremember.

I'd rather just leave it be. If people dislike what is shown, and instead want to think up their own theories to contradict or rationalise it, there is no stopping them it seems. It just turns somewhat annoying when unreasonable enough.

I just had kicks reading about how Mihawk's "strongest slash" couldn't hurt Joz.

What he sent to Whitebeard was just something to test out his enemy. You can see a lot from the way your initial attack gets handled. In the case of Joz, Mihawk probably realized that aerial slashes won't be enough to cut through him.

I didn't interpret it as one of Mihawk's strongest attacks because of the "strongest slash" phrase from the onlookers, but because he said that he wanted to see how far above him in power Whitebeard ranked. If he didn't make an effort this kind of gauge (difference between his own peak to Whitebeard's) would be considerably less reliable, but your interpretation can work as well. It just seems less likely.

Why should it have to show a heavy grimace? It's against his personality. He is a consumate professional, and his facial expression usually looks either focused or disinterested. I don't remember what he looked like here though, so if he was shown half-sleeping I'd reevaluate. Othervise, if he says that he wants to test how high his power ranks in comparison to Whitebeard's that's good enough for me.

believe me he wouldnt stay calm if he was desperately trying mainly it would be reflected on his facial expressions if his normal slash didnt reach whitebeard that indicates that he should put more effort in it .

Has it really been so long already? I once even bought the first 50/52 episodes on DVD when Ebay still had bootlegs in their market. Don't really know if it's one or not though. It's good to see that under all those bad german opening, there still can be found some pearls.

Please, could you tell me what facial expression you'd think Mihawk would give besides his usual? What expression would even fit in a situation like that? In order to compare his power vs WB, it's only logical to think that he'd slash with all of his strength. I really can't imagine Mihawk giving another expression then he already does. Now, just because Joz took the strongest slash, doesn't mean that he wouldn't of been sliced if he came into contact with the actual sword.

the next crewman will fight busco shot. he is a pretty big guy so maybe the next strawhat will be a pretty big guy as well.

i guess its safe to say the strawhats will get at least one more member.

I would think that in a situation in which he uses every muscle that he has to produce the strongest slash that he can at least requires him to clench his teeth. Not just standing there like a statue, swinging the sword with one hand.
If he was really trying, Oda would have shown it, make no mistake.

Although I'm on the side of the ones thinking that swing was rather half arsed (it's hard not to be really ). Now that's another awkward sentence . I get your point I just tried to imagine how would Mihawk look like with clenched teeth and came to a conclusion that nothing would change . Hell, a tight ass as he is (the recent Mihawk, not the more laid-back at the beginning of OP, when he occassionally smirked, at least his image changed a bit) I guess he could have his teeth clenched at all times.

I mean, we have a frowning Akainu shown with a full set of teeth (somehow he reminds me of the villains from American superhero comic books). And then we have WB with no change of expression while being shot with a bazooka in the face at almost point blank, stabbed multiple times, receiving a punch that killed Ace. The only indication he uses powerful attacks or receives damage are his eyes. We all know Mihawk's nickname and I like to think he will exhibit a similar toughness.

I guess the reason I think he didn't use his strongest slash is that nobody in any shounen does his best on one's first try.

For those who say mihawk wouldn't beable to cut jozu because his most powerful slash couldn't cut him, i think this might make you think a bit... Mihawk said he would not hold back on luffy right? So if he aimed all he had at luffy, then his attack here would be among his higher slashes http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/570/08/ , however that itself could not cut mr. 1 when he defended luffy, and then straight after, he was cut down. So it is still possible that mihawk can cut diamond, and also possible that he can defeat jozu (it's not necessarily both, because jozu seems skilled, with possible haki, extreme speed, brute strength, etc.). This just means we still have to wait for further fights! =D, before deciding much more anyway...
