Being the pirate king isn’t necessarily the strongest pirate though
You need a baseline of strength to get there ala yonkou/admiral level
But really it’s information and luck tha

whitebeard , shiki ,big mum and roger were all kind of in a deadlock and rulers of the old era , roger acquired oden , got inquire information and then got all the keys to become the PK

also the new one piece movie isn’t canon but contains canon information

What people fail to understand: hannibal wont listen to any argument whatever it may be, regarding this question about BM.

What hannibal fails to understand: when a person says it would be boring, repetitive, unnecessary and 'we don't have time for it', yes, it's a personal statement. But it doesn't mean it's not what 99% of the other readers and people related to one piece thinks too. So yeah, Oda would write what he wants regardless what you like or not, but it's extremely doubtful he would write something that pretty much everybody wouldn't like and would consider boring.
Add to that the effort taken to draw 100 more chapters to no real reason besides being in conformation with something his character arguably said (it's translator and readers interpretation), instead of trying to finish the story, which is undoubtedly more important and exciting.

Lastly, it doesn't take in account the possibility of Oda just changing his mind. The story doesn't always goes as one imagined. Shanks lost an arm, the supernova appeared and had major roles, the concept of haki got way deeper and many other examples. Even the fact that Luffy will be pirate king is not a fact per se (please, not that i think he wont). Many stories takes the protagonist to a slightly different ending that is implied throughout the series.

So yeah, we understand Luffy said what he said many times so we get the message. But from the pov of good writing, the only way it could fit the story is if it's made en passant, not an entire arc.

I can't agree with opinions that are contrary to facts. It's that simple.

What you fail to understand is I'm aware, lol. Thing is even if 99% FEEL a certain way, it doesn't change the facts. One Piece is a 24 year old story that was meant to be, 5 years, it's like we have forgotten that.
I'd have loved the story to end 10 years ago, but clearly Oda cares about time. He'll finish the story in the next 6 months for sure.

Lastly, it doesn't take in account the possibility of Oda just changing his mind.
Yes, like Oda deciding Kid should be Pirate King, some things are set in stone.

It's funny that Oda can do something in a recent chapter that was related to a chapter that's 500 chapters ago, yet people really think Oda will just change his mind. If he was changing his mind, a lot of things from past chapters would have 0 relevance.

If anything, it's pretty humorous that the fact Oda can bring things full circle from 100s of chapters ago actually proves a lot of things he's done were predetermined. So, why people believe things that were said in the past would hold little to no relevance now is pretty contrarian and almost wishful.

ut from the pov of good writing, the only way it could fit the story is if it's made en passant, not an entire arc.
And as usual, it boils down to your opinion of what you like and what you don't like. You don't have to consider it good writing. He will do whatever he wants.

People read this story as if the arcs, the developments are written to satisfy and appease them. We should know by now, that's not the case.

If Oda really listened to his fans, Sanji would not have been a joke for close to the entire New World saga.

Does Luffy have to defeat Big Mom, too?.

I don't think, it's bad writing or a bad thing if, Kidd and Law both defeat Big Mom together to help free Wano. Plus, I'd like to see, Shanks and Blackbeard get involved more at some point before the arc ends, but it most likely will not happen.

He doesn't even have to fight any of the emperor, it's just a choice he made to fight. It's also open as to whether he'll fight someone that lost to two supernovas.

Anyway, Luffy might go to WCI, he might not, but evidence, logic, and common sense strongly suggest he won't.

He said he'd go back to WCI, but the message and context was clear - to fight Big Mom. He didn't say he'd go back to tour the territory in peace, or to say hi to Katakuri, but everything makes it clear that he only cares about going back because he wants to beat Big Mom. There's a good chance, and it only increases, that he's not going back if Big Mom either loses or continues to chase him.

There's no reason for BIg Mom to not chase Luffy. Nothing indicates she won't, other than made-up rules. If Luffy's taken tremendous damage, and Big Mom is fairly healthy enough, then that's even more reason for Big Mom to go after the worn out and hurt Straw Hats. Big Mom also seems confident enough to go after Luffy, and given her pride and the losses she's suffered, she can't afford not to chase Luffy, if she can salvage her rep or something.

The two Vinsmoke brothers being captured isn't a reason either. Luffy and Sanji likely don't know this, and Big Mom didn't mention this either so far, when she could to try and get Luffy and/or Sanji to return to WCI. On top of that, Judge and Reiju are going to WCI to rescue the other two, and they'll likely succeed, so less reason for Luffy to go, if he even knows or cares.

If we're gonna go by consistency, then lol. Luffy beat enemies on territories because they were there, he didn't have to go out of his way to do that. And if we go by consistency as well, then Luffy never returned to an island so far, except for Mariejoa after losing. Besides which, consistency is rarely a thing, Oda can change whatever he wants, and he often does.

I would like to revisit WCI with the DIsney fairy tale settings done again, but it likely won't happen at this point.

So this is just as I was looking for the latest One Piece episode and came across Whitebeard & Ace's death. Do you know what I saw, guess who are two people who saved Luffy's life when he was emotionally distraught over Ace and about to be killed by Akainu?

Jinbe took Luffy away but MARCO is the one who protected Luffy from Akainu. Protecting his future captain?
Jinbe allied with Luffy through Impel Down and guided him through the Marineford war and his recovery. Then saved him from Yonko territory.
Marco protected Luffy in the war from Akainu and had Vista protect him from Mihawk. And then provided Luffy with major support in the Wano war.

Both saved him from a Yonko. Jinbe had his commander crewmate in WCI (and technically there whole crew). Technically while allied with Luffy, Germa and Bege.
Marco had his commander crewmate assist him in Wano (I know technically Izo actually has more stake in Wano but the Fishman do with Big Mom too), now they all with Minks, Samurai, Law and Luffy. Both were basically 2nd leaders of a crew, tragic captain deaths, then basically became leader and then disbanded.

But I'm just saying the case for a big dose of the Supernova are thinking they are closing the gap on Luffy only for Oda to just throw them not only Jinbe but also Yamato and Marco seems like a thing. Because if the Warlords disbanded, Weevil has no Marine protection. And is probably busy being hunted. Just don't know if Marco knows that. Outside the Weevil threat, WHICH STRANGELY IS SIMILAR TO JINBE'S HAVING SOME BUSINESS TO HANDLE BEFORE JOINING, nothing is really stopping him. I'm sure Luffy would love it and he seems personality wise like:

Bonehead/Rash/Quirky group - Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Yamato
Mature group - Marco, Jinbe, Robin, Franky
Scared group - Brook, Chopper, Usopp, Nami

Seems like a fit to me.

Also, I don't know if I mentioned this but I did say I went back into WCI. How did Big Mom get the blueprints to Punk Hazard? Is that where she made the deal with Caesar or was there other reasoning. Interesting she stole blueprints to Punk Hazard, and she lost blueprints of Poneglyph's. Anyway, just wondering.

You know I was looking for the latest episode. Came across a Ace & Whitebeard's death in Marineford. Guess my typing it here resonated with the web.

Anyway, who are two people who protects Luffy from the dying blow of Akainu?
Jinbe and Marco. Possibly protecting their future captain. I had typed this but lost it somehow.

Similarities with Marco & Jinbe (again)
Jinbe helped Luffy escape Impel Down, then helped him through Marineford, his Ave recovery and so on. Helped him against a Yonko. Technically he has more ticks regarding Luffy.

Marco saved his life from Akainu, had Vista save him from Mihawk, and helped in a huge way in Luffy's Wano battle. He's who got Zoro to the rooftop.

Jinbe & Marco - 2nd under Respected renown Captain. Then became Captains. Then ultimately disbanded from their crew technically. Jinbe upon joining Luffy, Marco as scattered Whitebeard men. In assisting Luffy against a Yonko in WCI, Jinbe had his crew help allied with Bege, and the Germa.
In assisting Luffy against two Yonko's in Wano, Marco carried one of his commanders (though Izo has huge importance here, Sun Pirates had Jinbe as their Oden figure) and allied with Luffy, the Minks, the Samurai and Trafalgar and Heart Pirates. Next part, they technically both end up question by Big Mom about allying with Luffy. With Marco giving his speech about being free, Jinbe about her just being a Yonko and both briefly clash Big Mom.

Now the crew personality dynamic fits too the more I look at it.
Bonehead/Rash/Quirky group: Luffy, Zoro, Sanji (mainly quirk), Yamato (if joining)
Mature Group: Marco, Jinbe, Franky, Robin
Scared Group: Brook, Chopper, Usopp, Nami

Also since Oda just had the Supernova look like they are closing the gap on Luffy, it would be huge if Luffy was to not only get Jinbe (only new to everyone else) but suddenly add Marco and Yamato.
It would parallel Blackbeard a bit. Blackbeard emerged from Marineford War killing a Yonko and showcasing a new crew of 5 Level 6 prisoners and establishing his rise.
Luffy takes down a Yonko and adds 3/2 big names. And they all have the same theme freeness. Luffy freed Jinbe from Big Mom and Impel Down. Freed Yamato from Kaido. And Marco is free from under Whitebeard to carve his own path, and could later be free from Weevil. Plus his voyage can ultimately benefit Whitebeard's place.

Now like Jinbe, he claimed to have an obligation. Both had a village to protect that was protected by Whitebeard. Jinbe ultimately joined. The case may be the same for Marco. If he got news of Warlord disbanding, then he knows Weevil is no longer protected. Solo threat. Jinbe was scared for Fishman Island but was willing to stake his faith in Luffy vs Big Mom, Marco can do the same.

As for Big Mom, I also said I read the Germa chapter again that also had Caesar. I wonder how Big Mom got the blueprints to Punk Hazard. Did she go there to negotiate with Caesar. Was it when Kaido was captive. Interesting she had those blueprints but lost the Poneglyphs.

Anyway, that's all. Feels like a great finish to Wano. He feels like a strawhat to me. I sure do not feel the Kidd vibe from him. More like he'll be Luffy's subordinate. Also, Rocks shows pirate life doesn't end in One Piece once the captain dies. Though Rocks members started their own crews. But also, Roger and Whitebeard are rival crews. Whitebeard's apprentice seemed superior to Roger's at the time of flashback. But one ultimately became a Yonko, the other a first mate. Skipping Buggy. Roger went after One Piece, Whitebeard didn't and eventually tried to make Ace King.
So maybe:
Roger gets executed, crew disbands (technically prior), Rayleigh retires in spite of knowing about the Ancient Weapon stuff, Roger passed on knowledge to Whitebeard in their last meeting, Roger died in calm and passed on his treasure and someone else's
but
Whitebeard is killed in battle in an execution rather than a surrender then execution, Whitebeard dies in a wake of destruction,
passes on no treasure of his own but passes on that someone else's is not fake but really passes on no knowledge he got from Roger (as far as we know, unless he told Marco),
the crew disbands,
Now where the Roger pirates except Shanks and Buggy disbanded/retired and the two became Captains
Marco doesn't retire and becomes a Captain under someone else. Which fits the differences, the strongest of the three apprentices when flashbacks of Oden came eventually becomes a subordinate rather than a Captain.

Luffy beating all 4 yonkou was always a long shot
The previous PK in roger actually didn’t even defeat all of them , heck he nearly lost to shiki if not for luck and snuck into totoland
And he and WB were essentially frenemies
He’s really gonna beat 2
It’s not like Roger could actually beat WB in a solo match.

He could.

Roger was so strong that the only person able to match him as equals was Whitebeard.

In fact, they fought many times, and there was a flashback of them fighting for 3 days.

That's wrong.

Pirate King has to be strong enough to defeat all the Emperors, otherwise it's impossible.

Luffy is currently fighting Kaido, you can't remotely claim it's not necessarily the strongest Pirate when you're having to defeat the strongest Pirates to achieve your goal.

And Naval/Sea battles has almost nothing to do with strength. Big Mom's ship got thrown into the sea by King, doesn't mean King can defeat the entire Big Mom Pirates alone. Once a ship has a hole in it, it will sink and that's how naval battles are won.

Shiki didn't fight directly against Roger, it was a battle of ships. Not like Ships can use Haki, they shoot cannons. A naval battle is not reflective of physical strength.

Roger neither defeated shiki big mum or whitebeard to become the pirate king though
Said had to but he was never on record doing , could he ? Probably shiki or big mum
“ the pirate king has to defeat all the yonkou” , well did he ? No ? The real recquirement was getting to laugh tale
Again it’s more of an information thing imo
You need to be extremely powerful ,that’s a given

We don't know much about Roger's past activity to say that he didn't.

We do know he was factually the strongest pirate in the world with Whitebeard.

As Crocodile said, Whitebeard even at his weakest could only be killed at Marineford because he was fighting on enemy territory, as he said, that was anyone's best opportunity to kill Whitebeard. In essence, that's reflective of how powerful Roger was given he and Whitebeard were somewhat equals.

Just like no one can say Whitebeard didn't defeat Big Mom or Kaido in the past, no one can say Roger didn't defeat them either. There's basically 20 years of unknown activity for us to claim Whitebeard and Roger didn't defeat anyone.

The one fact we know is both Whitebeard and Roger were the strongest on the sea.

Strength is proven by whom one defeats, so for Roger and Whitebeard to be called the strongest, they must have defeated other powerful Pirates.

Even now, there's not been a strongest Pirate since Roger and Whitebeard which suggests Roger and Whitebeard did something no other Emperor has done.

“ the pirate king has to defeat all the yonkou” , well did he ? No ? The real requirement was getting to laugh tale
Can't get to Laughtale without confronting the Emperors, so it's still a strength requirement.

I could go into a bank and just take money, doesn't mean it's as easy. One Piece might simply require Laughtale, but the reality is you can't get there without being the strongest.

It's honestly still all too ambiguous to really know for sure what's needed. We do know that the pirates who want to be the King have to be strong enough to deal with whoever comes after them, but we also know that they can get to Raftel and become the King without fighting at all, though that's debatable when they get to Raftel or right before Raftel. I expect guardians or some shit to be there.

This is kinda head canon , I mean they might have, but no panel goes on his way to laugh tale roger had to defeat shiki , WB and linlin, but the other emperors really have no idea how to get to laugh tale so how can they be that , it’s a mystery where everyone else minus roger was kinda in the dark on how to get to it
No one except Rogers crew really knows the way , roger became PK without having to defeat shiki roger and WB during his last journey, none of that has been hinted or even mentioned on panel , am I saying that the possibility of that isn’t possible , nope but so far one piece is also a big adventure not just a battle shonen
Is being extremely poweful important yes , but actually defeating the 4 emperors isn’t a recquisite
There’s been no mention of defeat of Shiki linlin and WB during his final journey where roger got to laugh tale, luffys real dream , and other things shows that the adventure isn’t quite what we think

Roger was respected more for his actions upon the seas versus being strong. Roger didn’t have to be the strongest pirate to be Pirate King. That was actually given to him as a title because of his accomplishments, just like Garp being labeled “Hero” of the Navy.

….or Usopp being called now “God” Usopp. Lol.

That’s the cool thing about One Piece for the major character like Luffy, he doesn’t need to be the strongest anything to achieve his goal, just can never give up no matter the challenges that come his way.

bruh after luffy beats blackbeard, he'll literally be the strongest pirate. and if theres any marines that could be stronger than him like akainu, theyre gonna be in his way to become pirate king so he'll have to beat them too. so who left? there's no two ways about it. he'll be the strongest just like roger (and WB) was. end of story. you guys gotta stop tryner reinterpret things we've always known
