I dont think either, Wano lasted twice or thrice longer than planned, I don't think he can wrap everything up within 3 years without rushing which would be a shame considering it's a life time work. But i can get that over years, he grew bored, or unsatisfied or simply he wants to finish things up quicker to enjoy life.

Yes I think that might be the case. He takes too few leaves as well. I think most people would hope he takes long time offs, like the one-two months in a year or in the extreme case like HxH, but continues the story in a consistent way.

This is the one I saw, so 5 years still seems to be what's scheduled, but Oda wants to try for 3, so we still have some wiggle room.

This handy dandy reddit timeline should give us a better idea of how 3-5 years looks.

in hindsight, he clearly could have cut Dresrossa to just the half of what it took, bringing it down to fishman arc. I think he might be banking on the fact that there are fewer main plot points left (one piece) and now that Luffy is Yonkou level already, he can speed things up to finish in 3-5 years. Let's see.

Let's hope so. Half the crew being as strong as they are should really limit the kidnapping/separated and helpless shenanigans as those tend to be the more tedious aspects of the arcs.

We can fill those spots in with lore drops.

I want to see something new for once. OP, while well-written and entertaining, has largely followed the same format.

• Luffy meets someone by chance who happens to be a very relevant person in the OP world
• Person is well connected in some country facing problems that threaten its rule or existence
• Luffy has to save damsel in distress
• Luffy defeats big bad guy
• Increase bounty, and the Gorosei saying how Luffy is troublesome, but not really doing anything about it

I think one of the reasons Marineford / Enies Lobby are so well liked is they dared break away from the above pattern. While Robin was something of a Damsel in Distress, the reasoning behind that was easy to empathize with. Marineford worked well to show how far we were from Luffy's goal, despite all his progress.

I want to see Luffy's version of this:

For a story about pirates we have very few situations that happen on the ocean. I'd love to see something different for once. Instead of some cliche battle with Blackbeard, it's more of a race for One Piece, and the battle happens on the Ocean - Blackbeard's Titanic Captains all leading his fleet and Luffy's smaller crew holding them off.

Everyone seems so curious about Elbaf but all I can think is, "Really? Another Fishman Island / Wano?"
Because in general any island that has been hyped up has not lived up to the hype, IMO. Maybe make a brief stop at Elbaf, but fucking have some adventure, damnit! I want some of Luffy's crew actually having to solve puzzles and find the remaining Road Poneglyphs, then some real, not DBZ-fighter-power-levels related obstacles in the way of Laugh Tale. We can have those ridiculous fights at some point, but please no more power-up battles on Laugh Tale.

Plus it took forever for Jinbe to join since Luffy asked him to... and the only one that could take even longer is Vivi

Personally, I feel like Oda wants to finish in 3 years, but won't be able to.

5 years = +- 220 chapters, assuming 44 chapters a year, roughly 3 chapters per month - honestly speaking, it would be likely 200 chapters with all the breaks + WSJ breaks.

200 chapters seems more logical than, say, 150 - no way can he in 150 cram EVERYTHING that we're dying to know, unless he rushes and then does a series of compendiums with additional knowledge.

I can see it ending in 3 years if he doesn't get any breaks and only gets the WSJ breaks (Obon, Golden Week, etc) - otherwise? It'll be rushed and leave a bad taste not only on our mouths, but his too.

I think it would be rather redundant if Vivi joined only now after showing how keen she was on helping her people. I’m still holding out on Yamato joining Luffy since she’s more keen on adventuring out to begin with.

In this instance, the Final Chapter likely means the final saga as a whole, not literally the last chapter.

The final chapter of One Piece will not be the chapter where One Piece is found on Laugh Tale. The final chapter must be related to the fulfillment of the Ancient Weapons’ purpose of which at least 1 and possibly 2 (Uranus is a candidate) are located in Wano. In any case, Whitebeard said in Marineford that there will be a giant war (with the World Government) after the One Piece is found so there will be an arc after Laugh Tale.
