You do see what I'm getting at, you guessed right. And it happened in Bakuman when Ashirogi Muto were competing with the dude who was cheating via an online secret forum, they prepared their climax parts of the arc and changed their pacing so that it would clash with each others.

The thing is that I don't see anything similiar happening with Oda. He is at the top, so he there's nothing he needs to prepare for. His simply dragging the story a little more. My gripe with this 'filler' chapter is that a break follows. I'd understand if he wanted to just write a fun chapter. Kinda like a breather. But this is kinda....I don't know. Even a cliffhanger would've sufficed.
But I guess that's still due to his illness.

Believe me I'm not putting Oda in Togashi's boat in terms of release schedules gosh no.
In the sense that they have reached the level of success where JUMP would beg them to return if they tried to quit, and Oda has the luxury option of taking 3-6 weeks rest if he has illnesses, and if a little more serious as long as he likes. Which is what Togashi seems to be doing since according to the Magazine records is still a serialized author with JUMP.

Naruto and Bleach yes I agree fully, but Fairy Tail has brought about a feeling of "everlasting" similar to OP recently. See how they mentioned there are various strong mages on other continents?
Meaning we have to meet other Dragon Slayers, more Stellar Spirit Mages and already we got shown stuff like TreasureHunters etc? FT is far from over.

But none of them have the feeling of "never ending" like OP of course I agree.
In that regard I can't think of another Weekly Battle manga past the 400+ Chapter stage that doesn't feel like we're riding into its penultimate or ultimate saga.
(With Naruto I do get the feeling that after Madara+Juubi loses in this very arc, Naruto VS Sasuke then BAM! end of story)

Well, I don't read FT, so I can't compare them, but you seem to get my point. OP is just soooo long, and will be soooo long, so I somewhat understand what k-dom is trying to say. I tried it as well and when people looked at the amount of volumes they asked me if I was serious.

I don't see what is the problem with k-dom opinion about the tourney. First, it's his opinion, and second, as usual, he's respectful with everybody here. Also I don't think it's possible to prove he's wrong. Because the point he talks about is a matter or personal preferences. Now everybody can think different than what he thinks. And this threads are mean also for that, to let people express what they feel about the story. Just what he has been doing...

That may sound harsh. But why would Oda or anyone of us care for "some of your friends", we can't know if they even exist?

Sorry, but you should be more respectful here. His assessment about his friends is part of an expression of his personal preferences. Sorry to say it but it's kind of absurd to doubt about the existence of his friends, and that only shows you need to be a bit more tolerant with others choices. Take it as a friendly note.

Aw, come on. That is easy to figure out, isn't it? Luffy winning in the end is the definition for Luffy having an easy fight. See, that's because One Piece is a Shounen Manga, therefore everytime a main character looks like he's in a pinch, he's actually faking it because the author fakes the tense by annoying and overboarding world building and making the character caughing up stuff and such. Even my all of my friends said that.

So as we apparently have the solution to our luxury problem, now everyone stop reading One Piece ... and Naruto ... and Hunter ... and Bleach ... and Jaco ... and Gintama ... and Ao no Excorcist ... and Ansatsu Kyoushitsu ... and Fairy Tail ... and Shingeki no Kyojin ... and Toriko ... and Beelzebub ... and Tower of God ... and -insert any shounen manga right here-, AT ONCE because they'll turn mediocre and incredibly boring anyways. The world may not be entertaining in such a childish way at all.

About the debate of the Corrida Colosseum and the tournament for the Mera Mera no mi, I do not think Oda is introducing all these people just for fighting - I think he will be involving them in the upcoming New World events and is explaining how things work there between independent nations.

I think all the "big names" Oda introduced is for the three remaining battle royales to be interesting, so Luffy, Rebecca and others do not fight random guys. That way there can be interaction and talks between the fighters and makes it more than just something we have to suffer before the plot speeds up.

Plus, Oda is really a foreshadowing author. So some of these people will probably appear later in the manga when the Strawhats will be travelling into New World: Oda's been building the countries' fights since Punk Hazard arc with the underworld, the brokers and the weapons.

In any case, if we think about, Doflamingo was probably used by WG because of his powerful influence and position as an underworld broker. It makes sense to me for hidden agencies to make use of the Shichibukai as Joker and not Doflamingo. If it was just about strenght and dirty stuff, I think CP-0 would be enough.

We must remember that the WG officer who met Doflamingo at Mariejois did not want him to leave the Shichibukai. Doflamingo told him he could leave when he wants: he used that as a threat to tell him not to speak to him as he was his subordinate. So WG have serious/long-term interests with Doflamingo's doings.

Wouldn't it make sense that with all his intel the WG knew about Joker - not sure about smiles and Vergo though - and used him to give the New World kingdoms weapons so that they fight each other? They could have created the Joker to interfere in secret with geopolitical stuff in the New World.

That's what states do in real life and since Oda has been highlighting the underworld and the fights between countries since the beginning of Punk Hazard arc, I think it makes perfect sense. Maybe WG create chaos and wars so that these countries ask to enter the World Government and get their Pax Romana. What do you think?

On a more serious note, I personally am expecting to see country, not sword fights,
gears more toward Kenshi's story. But the arc is so far ahead that it's really hard to imagine
how Oda will take us. I mean could you see how the "worlds" would react upon DD's defeat by the SH?
Kidd will somehow intercept Luffy, and Oda should start dropping the hints of appearance for
Dragon and co.

And hopefully Kinemon and Law, etc, will still be Luffy's "crew."

This tournament is about what one thing. Not getting the flame fruit, but showcasing the people that will eventually become The Strawhats allies. When they take on the Yonkou, they will need an army. Oda is taking this opportunity to show off some the allies powers. I also think the Strawhats will learn something from some of their allies

Zoro- We all know that he want to be the best swordsman in the world, and in order to be that he needs to be able to cut everything. Kinemon will show him the secret to cutting fire

Luffy- As Strong as Luffy is, he does not have that one super attack like Law or one of the Admirals. I think Luffy is going to learn that King Punch and it will be his greatest attack.

Sanji- Sanji Is going to be the worlds greatest Kenpo user before it is over with. He is a master of Red Leg style and Newkama Kenpo, which is a better form of okama kenpo. I think they he will also learn that exploding kenpo attack from Boo, and add it to his arsenal

ODA: Well, ummm, grilled fish! Alright, next question.
Q: Question. Robin always says frightening things in front of everyone. But in her own thoughts, she oftentimes thinks of fun stuff like "Cats" or "Dress-rouba" (T.N. - Panels of Robin's thoughts to the right of question. Also, Dress-rouba is a pun on Dressrossa, meaning "Dress-Old Woman). Why doesn't Robin talk about these thoughts with her crew to make them laugh? I love how Robin is like this. -P.N. Y.O
ODA: I see, that's true. From what I think - based on during the Punk Hazard arc when she told Franky (in Chopper's body) not to ever make such a strange face in Chopper's body again - Robin probably likes cute things. But even though she likes cute things, she's a bit dark/creepy herself, so if she tries to put these cute thoughts to words there is a chance it may come out as scary/ominous. That's the kind of woman that Robin is.
Q: This might be out of nowhere, but who in the Strawhate Pirates can use Haki? It's bothering me and I can't activate my "Love Hurricane".
ODA: It's these three. Their specialty haki color is in the parentheses. (TN: Picture of Luffy (Hao-shoku Haki), Zoro (Buso-shoku Haki), Sannji (Kennbunn-shoku Haki) )

Q: In chapter 701, Law claimed that one of his crew drew the map that he shared. Is that crew member referring to Bepo!!? I ask this because at the bottom right of the map you can see a blurred paw print. It's there, right? -P.N. TakaAki・T
ODA: Yes, it's there, of course. Bepo is the Navigator of the Heart Pirates after all. He drew that map.
Q: Odacchi! In volume 70, chapter 700, Sannji made onigiri for Law, who doesn't like bread. What was inside those onigiri? -P.N. Natsuki
ODA: Well, the first onigiri had Tuna-mayonnaise inside. The second onigiri had okaka inside. And the last onigiri had super sour umeboshi inside. By the way, Law hates umeboshi. A few minutes later, he and Sannji got into an argument because of that.

Q: I thought of birthdays for Caesar and Monet! Caesar is April 9th and Monet is August 27th! Is that ok? (TN: Refer to raw - it's a pun. 4月 is April. 9日 is Ninth. ４月９日 can be read as "Shinokuni" using Japanese onnyomi. Same with Monet. With a bit of effort ８月２７日 can be read as "Harpy Day".)
ODA: Yeah, sure. ほじほじ (TN: ほじほじ is an Onomatopoeia for picking your nose. Probably used in this case to signify that he could care less.)
Q: In chapter 700 there is a reporter named "Abusa", that's referring to Absalom right? Right? And if you look closely, there's even the pirate ship. What other kinds of eroti... amazing articles... What other kinds of eroti... I mean, moving articles... What other kinds of erotic articles does he write?
ODA: Yes, that is Absalom. How nostalgic. In fact, he was also at the Battle of Marineford. After the battle, Doflamingo was stated that something strange happened to Moria. I wonder why?
