Yeah, I don't like it much. Those pointless costumes just scream 'merch push' to me. It also majorly spoils the Fujitora reveal. It obviously needs to include some stuff from Dressrosa, but they could have done it by just showing off the coliseum fighters and the Donquixote family a bit more. Character designs are much less spoilery than actually ruining a plot point.
People that really care about One Piece read manga and see anime afterwards as its their favourite. Its made mostly for people knowing what will happen.
As for design of cloths from opening- Oda did them especially for celebrating 15th anniversary and they are pretty neat in my opinion. Nobody makes you buy figures and stuff and it does not hurt to see some original new designs from Oda.

Plenty of people prefer the anime to the manga. It's not very fair to say they don't 'really care' about it. I've seen people far more dedicated than me who only watch the anime. It's not really about how much you care about it, but the medium by which you most enjoy it. Besides, they're making the anime story line up with the manga story so you'd assume they want the story to hit the same notes, and the Fujitora reveal is one that will now not even remotely work.

And the designs are fine, it's just the fact that they'll never be seen outside this opening that makes them so glaringly merch orientated, whether Oda designed them or not.

Nobody really dedicated to One Piece only watches the anime, that's the simple truth. The manga is better in every way, only watching the anime is not wanting to enjoy the serie to it's fullest, which is pretty idotic Imo. I have friends which enjoy it both ways, but those that watched the anime first and then started to read the manga, made a big point about how much better it is that way, each and everyone.

Is that so. I'll have to tell my friend that her existence is invalid then. Or that she's not 'really dedicated'. She probably won't like that.

I know they're not exactly in the majority, but they exist, and a spoiler-happy opening detracts from their experience. That's all I'm saying.

How can she be "really" dedicated to the series, when she isn't even [willing to?] reading the original source material? Please explain this to me. How can she be dedicated when she's willing to take filler material and wrong depiction of the time[pacing] and more importantly the characters as canon? Remember that I'm not saying that she's not a fan of One Piece please.

Most openings do that, especially in a long running series, it's nothing new and something that has to be expected, as the vast majority or anime viewers are watching it to see the things they've already read animated, as vagabond has pointed out already.

Do any of you think that Whole Cake island is a place we will actually be visiting as the final encounter with Big Mom, or will it just be a place that is seldom mentioned as her HQ?

I mean Croc had his HQ and Luffy went there, Dofla has hi HQ and Luffy went there, the Marines have their HQ and Luffy went there, the CP9 had their and so on, do you think Oda will follow on the trend of beating the bad guys on their own turf, or? Well Marineford was not actually a win, but you get my point. :D

She did read the manga. When she'd caught up she said she preferred watching the anime and stopped reading the manga. I'm not saying she's sane, I'm just saying she exists. She talks about the series just as passionately as anybody else, and I don't want to question her integrity as fan just because she has a preferred means of enjoying it. There are people who don't like reading or who can't get into it without movement or being able to hear the characters' voices. Again, not saying they're anywhere close to a majority, just saying they exist.

And I'm aware that openings tend to spoil, but I felt the Fujitora thing was a bit on-the-nose, especially since his identity is kept secret for a few chapters after his introduction. The admiral position is a pretty big deal. Usually they're subtler than that.

Seeing as a Big Mom and Strawhats confrontation is quite likely to occur, there's a good chance the crew could end up on her island one way or another. On the other hand, for all we know, Oda intends for them to simply meet at sea. I don't think it's important for the crew to be present at every enemy hideout/HQ, unless it serves a purpose to the story's development; which I guess would be final word on it.

I do think though, that we'll get to see more of the island once Big Mom comes more into play with the main storyline, even if the crew don't end up there.

I just want to see a battle at ship damnit, with ships firing at each other; a la battle in Edd War. :bored

I think it is a location they will visit, only I am a little vague on how, why, and when. I am not sure how Big Mom fits in yet. There are two pirate alliances, both aiming to depose Yonkou. I want to know the target of Kid's alliance before predicting too much about Big Mom. I have a feeling she is there target, and will ultimately be worked into this saga. It's so hard to say right now. That could help determine whether anyone visits her island.

Yeah, this is why I wonder on this, I want the Yonko battle to be perhaps out to see, as you said Edd War. I highly doubt Oda will change his style of writing though. I think the encounter with a Yonko will be the third great saga of the New World, since they will be meeting a "God" of those seas, like they met the "God" of Sky island- Enel, of course if Oda follows parallel to the original story, then the 4th saga of the NW should be something with the WG, maybe CP0 and Vegapunk go here? I have trouble fitting Kaido anywhere unless at the end of this saga at Wano Kuni or something. :s Revolutionaries probably will be all over the sagas.

Exactly, I am torn between Kaido and Big Mom as I said, they could be the villain after Dofla or somehow Oda deals with Dofla and then we move on to the Yonko or the yonko is actually the main villain of this saga, that Dofla is only part of. Since we know the route pretty much:

Punk Hazard -> Dressrosa -> Zou -> Wano Kuni

If we follow the logic of Oda's foreshadowing when Luffy said where he wants to go next ... still Whole Cake island may even be after Wano Kuni, the funniest thing is that the SH crew lost their log pose route COMPLETELY? That is why visiting these islands gains in possibility due to the separate route.

That song sounds like something you'd hear on Barney or something. Then again, this is being directed towards kids first and that's where the money is.

If you seen something like Shanks loosing to Blackbeard than you must have been reading different chapters of One Piece than me.
If you can post a link to page that says anything about Shanks getting beaten by Blackbeard.

Still no Spoilers yet?
Spoilers will probably be out tomorrow as they were regularly before the new year breaks. Wednesdays is when spoilers usually come out these days, rarely do we see them Tuesday or in the good old days Monday. With spoilers tomorrow the chapters is soon to follow.

I just started watching One Piece Film Z (I know... took me some time to try it, and I skipped all the other ones), and just noted something...
That scene at almost the beginning, when the Mugiwaras are shown watching the sakura leaves fallin, and Usopp is using pesticide to kill pests on his plants... The flavor of Zoro's sake and Chopper's milk changed, and Robin pointed out that pesticides affect the human body.

The point is... Around the time the movie was in production, many "scandals" involving Monsanto's use of pesticides (culminating in almost all the bees on Canada and some other places going extinct) were of high concern around the world...

Don't you all find it interesting that Oda introduces those themes in such a light way to One Piece's younger fans? I can totally see a 5 year old japanese boy (or girl), watching the news with his family, and going "boo, pesticides are bad for our body too!" (Movie Z), or "everyone is the same, we have red blood on our veins" (Fishmen Island Arc), oe even yet "Pirates are good! They are free! The government is bad, and lies to us! Snowden is our hero!", and so on...

The author does that without being a pushover. I really like it (doesn't feels "forced" when he introduces those "real world problems" into the story).

hmm, I just came to a realization. And probably most people had come to this realization way way way before me. Since Sabo didn't die, it meant that Ace was the dead close member of Luffy. Which meant the first half of One Piece was literally Luffy's back story/flashback. Hmmm....
