Re: One Piece Chapter 772 Discussion / 773 Prediction

I know. What I meant was that it might not be increased so much because fuujitora could intervene and make a case for him.
No, they'll simply say Fujitora defeated DD and that's it, like they did for the Alabasta incident

I know that. I didn't mean publicly. What I'm saying is fuujitora could privately tell akainu to let the SH's off lightly (by not increasing the bounty too much for example) not that they should give them credit cuz the WG would never allow that.
Ofcourse they'll attribute it to fuujitora and even paint the SH's as the bad guys.

Doubt it, Akainu isn't that nice anyway, I mean even Garp who is quite close to Sengoku probably never interfered in those matters

Yeah I know its highly unlikely but not exactly impossible. Garp was actually proud when luffy made a mess and all so he wouldn't interfere. Fuujitora seems like the guy to do something in return for someone's goodwill.

I thought bounty value is like points that show their power physically and threat toward WG, so i actually want Luffy to increase his bounty after this arc.

As for Isshou, letting them off the island is generous enough as an admiral. He could be punished greatly for this, not to mention he moves directly under Akainu.

And actually, i wonder why is there so lack of punishment given to the marines who have failed at their job, capturing the criminals?

If it happen irl, Tashigi, Smoker, Aokiji, Isshou, G-5 marines and some others from impel down should have lose their job or get transferred.

Aand.. I know we can't rely on the bounties to determine who is tronger, but i guess outside the titles like "yonkou" and "shichibukai", more or less we measure the power through the bounties.

And luffy has been fighting people at least 3 times his bounties, and won, that is the base of my question up up up there.
Yea i guess Shinjao and Bellamy messed up with the value of bounties, but myaaaaahhh~~~~

Well if it was that way then the same should go for sengoku, garp, akainu, kizaru, aokiji etc. Not only was marineford invaded and destroyed, tons of high profile pirates escaped.

It is weird that there's really no punishement though.

Bounties are an indication of the threat the holder is believe to pose to the world and WG interests. As such it is also an indication of strength but it should not be held to gospel when comparing character's strength.

We've seen a lot of Marine slide with a slap on the wrist, Smoker, Garp, Aokiji all have and I don't think it'll be any different for Fujitora if he lets the crew leave. Which will mostly likely be in recognition of their efforts in removing Doflamingo from his seat and a step forward in helping his case to abolish the Shichibukai system. He would probably have a few words to say; begrudgingly agreeing to let them leave. That or he would try to arrest them and Sabo would get in the way( a nod to when Ace intervened with Smoker to allow the crew passage through Alabasta).

I think the main reason those Marine officers have escaped severe punishment is because of their ranks. That combined with their fame( Garp) and power( Smoker, Aokiji) allows them leeway to get away with certain things; as Garp would put it, his rank allows him to "move freely", he would get told off and maybe get put on lesser duties but that's not really a side of the organisation that we need to see. We also saw that Aokiji accompanied Garp to Enies Lobby to capture Luffy after he first returned to Sengoku emptied handed and having told him that he let his grandson escape.

If Sengoku was still the leader, maybe, but I don't think Fujitora will dare to do that because of Akainu's personnality, we know he hates pirates, imagine an admiral trying to help pirates... And helping Luffy on top of that, he won't forgive for sure

Yes I know. It was just a thought. Albeit a very unlikely one.

I highly doubt Akainu will be merciful towards Luffy, especially with his hatred of pirates. Not sure if Fujitora will even suggest it as Akainu might try to hurt Fujitora like he tried to kill Coby. If Fujitora is credited with takin down Doflamingo, I don't see the Straw Hats' bounty increasing unless they come up with a good reason not related to beating Doflamingo.

I actually wanna see Luffy vs. Akainu now and see just how much Luffy has grown. If he fought as he was before the timeskip, no doubt Akainu would have massacred him. now, just how much more difficult will it be for Akainu to win? I'm super duper curious.

Akainus power is very dangerous. Beside fact that he was capable of this

Luffy would surely take some time but he would fall as fast as Jozu fallen against Aokiji or maybe he would last bit longer thanks to his speed. Its not time for Luffy to fight Akainu who is even stronger than Aokiji.
Oda once said that Akainu is so strong that if he would be main character of One Piece it would end in a year.

I'm not sure if Luffy would fall that fast, but I don't think he'd win. AKainu and Aokiji had a monstrous fight, and Luffy hasn't shown he can hang with that.

It sounds like the protagonist's combat is the only thing that prolongs One Piece. Would you please link us to the statement made by Oda-sensei?

Well if Luffy was as strong as Roger, conquering Grand Line would be quite easy, in fact he'd already achieve his goal of being free
Strength = freedom in OP world

I think he's referring to this:

"When creating a protagonist, it is important not to make him too strong.
For example, if Akainu becomes the protagonist, he is so strong that he can put an end to ONE PIECE within a year." Sound Recording (2012)
Which was linked in this thread on APforums that collates quotes from Oda's interviews.

The most heartbreaking scene for him is this one. Jump Festa 2014 (2013)

Totally agree, I'm not the kind of person to cry or to be moved easily, but this one was truly heartbreaking :

To kill or not to kill said:
What Oda says :
"Basically I don't kill any characters because I wish the readers to feel satisfied after an arc ended." Asahi Evening Newspaper (26 November 1999)
And that's Togashi for you:hmph :
Togashi : For me, it will only appear when I draw battle manga, which is the determination “to kill off the protagonist anytime” (laugh).

Fujimaki: Is that even a belief?

Togashi: “Even though it’s the protagonist, but I cannot relax.” I will always think that way. Even though it’s an important character, but because I want to kill the character here, I will kill the character (laugh). This is what my first editor told me as well, “If it has impact, and the readers can accept it, then it is fine.” The important thing is not abiding by the rules, but to break the current sense of security, that’s how it is.

I really like One Piece but that's presumably why, to my opinion, Hunter x Hunter is a masterpiece slightly above :^_^

Edit :

To Lady :
Yes definitely Ok. Oh sorry, what I meant was not killing for killing just to shock the audience, but just that HxH deals with some matters in a more mature way. It's definitely one of the best shonen I've seen/read, with well written characters and a great plot. It for sure, has inspired many others recent works. If you like Op , Snk & so on, I'm sure you'll definitely love it. Have a look if you haven't seen or read it yet, it definitely worth it, btw the 2011 anime is great :^_^

Sorry fot being off-topic :sweat
Oh, Ace is was definitely on of my fave characters, and his death one of my fave too (sadly) :).

Well to me it's great that Oda can feel this way about One Piece, to care so much about how the readers feel he can't bring himself to kill his characters. And to actually cry in the sad moments :wtf.

I can't say for sure if I like it when one of the main characters dies, or someone close to him. One of the moments that made me actually cry was Ace and WB's deaths. But it was more about how I felt that it was unfair, especially after all the trouble Luffy went through to save his brother...I guess I don't like how some authors easily kill off their characters, sometimes for no good reason. Or just to mess with our heads lol. That said I'm glad that Oda isn't one of them, and there's only a few instances throughout the manga where a character died for good.
But while I'm glad that Sabo is alive for example, I hope it will not become a trend, and we'd see characters that are supposed to be dead come back again(even though I'd do anything to see Ace alive ):amuse

Well, that's Luffy's philosophy. Not everybody in One Piece shares the same philosophy. He fights for freedom whereas others fight for conquest & subjugation.

The point is if the person is already very powerful, there would hardly be a story. Even if it wasn't luffy's freedom philosophy, someone as strong as akainu could conquer almost everyone. BB (also having gura gura) and his entire crew plus level 6 inmates fled only Akainu. That says a lot. There are probably only few people that can currently defeat him. Total would still be single digits.
