Re: One Piece Chapter 809 Discussion / 810 Predictions- Break THIS WEEK

In the end it comes down to a fruit not being merely as strong as the person using it because there are many factors to consider. Remember enel? He was as far as we saw a more powerful and skilled fighter than luffy at the time in almost every regard. And yet luffy eventually got the upperhand simply because his fruit was the perfect counter. Luffy's fruit was not necessarily more powerful or versatile and yet it simply countered enel's fruit completely (save for metal manipulation and whatnot).
Luffy was superior to Enel physically at least, when Luffy's attack hit him, he was severely damaged to a good degree. If Enel were physically stronger, he'd have won. It's like if Luffy then could even have touched Aokiji, he'd still be defeated with little to no difficulty.

Fruits do make one powerful, but if the opponent like Garp is fast and strong, they have just as much of a chance of winning imo. I would say the benefit of Logia fruits is their ability to not exert much stamina.

Doflamnigo's fruit didn't take stamina off him; even when he was injured, he was using his strings to attack effortlessly which implies using his ability had no detrimental effect on his stamina. The thing is he lost stamina everytime he did get hurt, good example is when Luffy used a Leo Bazooka on Joker when he was perfectly mobile before, until then, he wasn't limping and physically somewhat impaired.

Fruits are powerful, but if t a non-DF user with haki can land attacks consistenly to the body of their opponent, they probably can nullify just how overpowered a DF user can appear to be imo.

I am not sure enel was physically weaker than luffy. A large part of the fight was affected by enel's own arrogance IIRC. And remember luffy didn't end the fight by merely punching him, the huge gold ball luffy had played a part as well there. How much force did the gold ball enel gave luffy hit enel with? It's a tad beyond what luffy would normally be able to achieve.

As for the rest of the post, that falls well within the point I made. Someone could be relatively high in all the categories I mentioned and still be easily defeated by garp through sheer strength and skill.

Actually, Enel was weaker or Luffy was at least equally as strong as he was physically because Luffy could barely hit him due to Mantra and Once Luffy got him, he literally knocked the wind out of him a couple times or more just like he did against Crocodile.

Fact is if Luffy were even able to tough an Admiral, he still wouldn't have been able to do any damage to them at that point in time because they were physically exceedingly superior.

If Enel was superior to Luffy, he'd simply have not been hurt.

The arrogance claims doesn't work either; arrogance only lasts initially until they realise they've met their match which was the case once Luffy got a grasp of Enel and Crocodile's abilities and this is very well portrayed against Joker.

If arrogance was really the reason why Luffy won, then they really were just not superior to Luffy; we know that Crocodile exerted himself just like Joker did who used his best attacks and still lost.

Except these guys had the ability to asphyxiate people like Caesar which could guarantee victory against anyone and not an attack that actually requires exhibiting force, I wouldn't count it in.

Like Pekmons has shown, even though Logias can be extremely powerful, haki does level the playing field.

Ace only lost because he was negligent, it's like pouring Mud on Fire, it's going to smother the flames; Mud's effect on fire is no different to the effect Magma should have on a flame. What Ace should have done there was use Armament haki, but my point is DFs are powerful, but haki seemingly does level the playing ground no matter how powerful they are.

We know Kinemon and Kanjuro have an ability, wouldn't be surprising if this Ninja possesses an ability too.

Looking back at previious chapters or back to the beginning of the Zo arc, why is Bariete falling down the elephant?

There's no fight going on or any conflict in occurrence until Luffy actually starts exploring Zo and meets with the Guardians.

Robin said she saw a man covered with blood because she did say "at first glance". It's quite the jump to go from man covered with blood with countless knives wedged in himself to just a small monkey.

Also, Carrot asks what happened to Bariete? She assumes the SHs took him out while we know they didn't.

Being that this Ninja might also have an ability, it's still possible that the Bariete we saw falling was as a result of the Ninja, Raizou. Perhaps Raizou pushed him down and possesses an ability to do with hiding such as the ability to:

  1. Shrink into microscopic sizes
  2. Turn invisible (which would be weird because Absalom already possesses that).
  3. Manipulate the vision of people within a certain area.
  4. Possesses the ability to teleport.
  5. Or maybe he can possess people and can manipulate them to a limited extent.
Franky also said he heard an unfamiliar voice within the Ruckus, but that could just be Bariete.

Frankly I think the series is inconsistent in regards of power until that point, so I wouldn't be using it to measure Enel physical strength. Similarly, if Luffy was able to injury Crocodile to such degree, then it's unthinkable he could confront the big shots in Marineford like he did, since they should be able to K.O. him in one hit.

Not really, you have to take into account that Crocodile is still a Logia, not many people there besides the big shots were capable of using haki.
  1. Look what Jozu did to him, Jozu would easily have defeated him there had Joker not interefered.
  2. Joker severed his head, imagine what would have happened had Joker used haki? Crocodile would be dead.
  3. Crocodile intercepted an attack meant for Luffy by Mihawk; Mihawk wouldn't need haki to slash or injure Luffy; if Crocodile got the same attack that Mihawk aimed at Whitebeardso casually which Jozu had to literally muster all his strength to deflect, Crocodile would likely have been 1 shoted.
Crocodile may have looked good in the war only because he intercepted numerous big shots who weren't looking to fight him or focused on him; he still got stopped by Luffy when he tried to attack Whitebeard and we know Luffy wasn't on Mihawk or Jozu's tier of power at that time which puts Crocodile in his rightful place.

Bare in mind that Crocodile didn't actually fight anyone, so what he did at the war isn't inconsistent, he's not a big shot in terms of powe who just has a great advantage being that he's a Logia at the end of the day and wasn't the centre of attention.

Would he? Jozu did the same to Aokiji, who appeared even more injuried than Crocodile, and was still defeated.

Luffy took down a Pacifista with one punch after the time-skip. And I believe it's safe to assume that Jozu head butt is several times more powerful than that. So IMO it's far fetched that Luffy kicked Crocodile ass in a fist fight, but Crocodile had barely any lasting injury from Jozu, right?

Joker severed his head, imagine what would have happened had Joker used haki? Crocodile would be dead.
I disagree. Logias are always sliced like they are made of butter, and it doesn't seems their Logia forms have any durability. Would you say Crocodile would have killed Akainu if he was not a Logia too?

Crocodile also clashed with Doflamingo in a fair game. If Doflamingo Haki is strong enough to collapse a mountain, how did Crocodile managed to block his attack?

He looks a bit like Patrick Redfield from Unlimited World Red.

You can't compare Jozu's headbutt to Luffy's punch, there's nothing that indicates Jozu's as strong as Luffy's punch or vice versa since it took out a Pacifista while we haven't seen if his headbutt would do the same; can't really judge.

However, Crocodile was stopped by Luffy who was clearly not as powerful as Jozu at the time; if Crocodile couldn't take on Luffy, he stands no chance against Jozu.

And when Luffy defeated Crocodile, the only advantage Crocodile had over Luffy was the fact that he was a Logia. Luffy's normal punches were enough to have Crocodile's eyes roll literally to the back of his head out of pain and Luffy wasn't even capable of Gear 2nd or 3rd at the time, so Crocodile really is not that strong.

Even if Luffy were strong able to touch Aokiji, he still wouldn't be able to do much against Aokiji as he was just vastly superior to Luffy at the time while Crocodile wasn't.

Had Doflamingo used haki when he sliced Crocodile's neck, he'd have died. Doflamingo was simply toying around with Crocodile and it's quite evident he was doing so as he asked Crocodile to be his subordinate, not even equal partner.

Also, Crocodile never blocked Joker's attack; it was the other way round with Crocodile lunging at Doflamingo in both manga and anime in which Doflamingo blocked his attack.

I disagree. Logias are always sliced like they are made of butter, and it doesn't seems their Logia forms have any durability. Would you say Crocodile would have killed Akainu if he was not a Logia too?.
Akainu survived attacks from Whitebeard that shook the entirety of Marineford; If Crocodile would get hurt from Luffy's Pretime-skip Bazooka, there's just no way he'd survive an attack that Akainu survived if he weren't at least at the level of an Admiral which Crocodile isn't.

Do people solely believe Luffy defeats his opponent because of Will Power or because he's equally as strong with the Will Power to prolong or enhance that strength?

No, certainly his will enhances his strength, but it's not something that gives some insanse powerboost outta nowhere
Best example is Lucci, for example his will just allowed him to stand up and stand the pain in order to finish the fight, he didn't become more powerful nor faster at all

Luffy's will allows him to push his boundaries during fights, for example when he's injured. It simply allows him to stand up again and continue to fight despite the pain. The only thing that allows him to become stronger is the "powerups" he gets in the form of the multiple gears. Without that he simply cannot become stronger.

Doflamingo stated that majority of the SH victories was because they underestimated them
but lets not overrate luffy here

-luffy had to borrow alot of shadows to defeat morriah.
-lets be real, enel was a god, luffy only won because he too no damage from his electrical attacks, likewise, the final hit by luffy, was partially due a a spring effect with the wieght of the golden ball, and enel's underestimation of the coming attack.
-as for lucci, while luffy delivered thel final blow, he was pretty much knocked out too, at best you could say that they were too close to compare.
-crocodile had 3 prior chances to kill luffy, this is the most severe cases of underestimation. even Doflamingo commented (with a flashback reference) that the mistake of Luffy's prior opponents was that they underestimated him, until it was too late, while Luffy did kick some serious ass in the final fight,i think doflamingo was specifically saying thatLuffy really isnt as strong as the opponents he defeated, but rather his enthusiasm and fighting spirit+underestimation + a bit of combat adaptability was what carried him so far.

as for the other enemies, they were either too weak (don krieg, hody) or so much more powerful, that there were no realistic chances of victory.

now for doflamingo....
there is a claim that luffy has surpassed doflamingo. I disagree, while gear 4th gives luffy a drastic increase in speed and power, he slashes his already low stamina, which is an important factor in drawn out battles (as demonstrated by the minks) i know that luffy has the abiltiy to find that little extra when he's already worn out, but lets try to be objective here.

if the birdcage strings didnt take any significant amount of energy, i fail to see why the strings he uses in combat arent as powerful (and if issho and zoro combined couldn't even stop them imagine if he actually put effort into it) , we can remember that doflamingo had planned to kill everyone in the country (including issho), and letting any information out via den den mushi would be detrimental, as marine HQ would attack Dressrosa (and DD seems to fear akainu). Thus it wasn't a situation where he casually used the birdcage because it was easy and convenient, rather he was forced into a corner. and the confidence he displayed was partly in him having mansherrie as a trump to restore his energy. also, i noticed that seastone not only negates devilfruit abilities, but also drains the physical strength from the DF users, thus there must be some paralells between df powers and stamina consumption, so its unfair to say that the birdcage doesnt even require moderate stamina consumption.

As for the effect law had on the battle. Its common knowledge that injuries, whether open wounds or internal damage will have hamper the physical movements of those injured. Doflamingo stated himself that the stitches he did for the gamma knife were only temporary. meaning that he was still severely injured, all he did was stop himself from dying, he still stated that he was severely injured and this injury carried on into the fight with G4 luffy, now while luffy did have injuries, they were nowhere near getting a red hawk from point blank and a gamma knife, plus doffy would have expended some extra stamina para-siting half the country (plus birdcage).
Mansherrie was the only way doflamingo thought he had a realistic chance of defeating everybody in the country

but wht if both characters had a true duel without interference. i think doflamingo would easily survive the gear 4th onslaught
in fact.....he actually already did despite the major handicapp (which was actually noted by luffy during their fight (and coincidental the moment i am typing this the OP episode on eyeonanime has just come out, where this exact same moment happens)
Luffy wouldnt beat doffy in a real fight, it isnt far fetched at all, ofc luffy would simply evolve midway, or get his ass kick and come back saiyan style. but the luffy now just isnt enough by himself for doflamingo.
*one of the themes in OP was that luffy cant do many things by himself, which us why he NEEDS help from his nakama
luffy might close that gap in a few dozen moremanga chapters though. which is about a year real time from now :D

Now this is interesting
Sanji's birth eh... Mostly special lineage for sure, the King/Tenryubito/Influent father at the WG theory is becoming more likely now

This is so cool. We have One Piece Star Wars, and then the news on Sanji's year, 2016. It's also nice to see the animation production team - the voice actors/actresses. Thanks to Oda, who has it all planned out. I'm looking forward for 2016 and the upcoming movie. :^_^

The youtube video is a given, the voice actor must have like cats a lot and he really like the song. He has a nice white cat toy. (I wanna have it too. :teehee)
