Can't remember what was the last OP episode I watched.

I think I remember someone who works for Pixar or Disney who is a huge fan of One Piece. He even did illustations of OP characters in his own style. It's so interesting to see OP characters drawn with the "Western" style. But for the love of god I can't find it. :notlikethis
That sounds really interesting, I guess I missed that. Would also like to see!

Some of the earlier movies, like Baron Omatsuri featured some interesting animation, I liked that style and it was more experimental. They need to hire/rehire that animator since there's various animators who work on different seasons of the anime, and they all have their unique style.
I know what you mean, Baron Omatsuri's island is my favorite OP movie, but isn't that kind of fluid animation style usually used for movies and/or high-budget projects?

I really do miss the pre-time skip animation though, especially the early days.

Yeah if only I could remember where I saw it, and I hope I'm not misremembering it.

Some of the earlier episodes like episode 396 featured some pretty fluid animation done by Naoki Tate. It's in that episode that Luffy punches Saint Charlos, and that was some of the best animation in the anime.
There's a similar scene in Baron Omatsuri.

Here's his sakuga compilation

Sakuga is the term used to refer to the very well animated scenes in an episode of an anime. Everytime you see that the animation has become suddenly much better then those are called "Sakuga". Typically the first episode(s) of an anime adaptations feature a lot of sakuga, since those are usually used to "sell the product". After people get hooked, the latter episode feature some bad animation that is definitely worse than the one featured in the first episodes. There's very few anime who feature a consistant quality of the animation, for various reasons, including budget.
If we would apply it to the One Piece anime, only a few key scenes would get the sakuga treatment, and I believe Toei is just milking the series and isn't putting enough budget behind it, which isn't the first time either.

FIRE TANK PIRATES 'Capone Gang Bege' = 3 Billion alliance wid Big Mom's pirate
(Chapter 812-13page)

Captain of the Mammoth 'JACK THE DROUGHT' = 1Billion Jack is the right hand of Kiado
(Chapter 809-14page)

these are the two BOUNTIES above Billion 's till Chapter 828

My point is 'Capone Gang Bege' was one of the worst generation right n his bounty was 138 million
on the Sabaody Archipelago 2Yrs back
Thn hw come Aftr alliance wid Big Mom's pirate his bounty is 3 Billion ?

Tht's not fair re Aftr all those effort defeating mingo, Luffy's current bounty is 500 million n even law's same. Hw tht 'Bege' had soo low bounty got billion on his head?

tht's 500Million *6 = 3,000,000,000 (Billion)

:-_-:confused::confused:

Capone's bounty was a translation mistake. Because 100 million is a single character in Japanese (億) sometimes translators assume it has a rounded English equivalent.

This message has been posted in MS site a few weeks ago pertaining to character names and epithets, for our info.

A few (rather important) new characters and epithets were introduced in this week's chapter. We ended up going back and forth a few times with the romanization of their names, and there appears to be a bit of confusion among you all as well, so I thought I'd just come forward and clear the air.

Let's talk about Sanji's older sister. Her name in katakana is レイジュ. This is pronounced "Ray-joo." The standard romanization for this name would be "Reiju." Initially, I wasn't too much of a fan of this spelling, as I felt it didn't look appropriately "feminine." She herself is clearly quite feminine, and her charms/flirtyness are a part of her character. At first, then, I didn't (and still don't) feel that the word "Reiju" looked like the kind of name a character like that should have. Her name is very close to the word "Rouge," a relatively common name for similar "sexy possibly villanous woman" archetype characters. (Anyone ever played Sonic Adventure 2?) I therefore decided that Reige would be a better romanization; it maintains the pronunciation while fitting more with the image of the character.

However, after thinking about it a bit more, I realized it was more important to preserve the commonality in the patterning of the Vinsmoke children's names. As many of you probably already know, the Vinsmoke siblings introduced so far all have a number at the beginning of their names. Additionally, with the introduction of Yonji and Reige/Reiju, we can perhaps guess that the pattern is "number + j + vowel." The "Reige" spelling goes against this patterning, and makes it seem like Reiju is somehow unique or different than her siblings, a conclusion I would rather avoid readers jumping to. So I ended up switching the name back. This happened pretty soon after the chapter was released, within about 10 minutes.

Next, let's talk about name ordering. This was basically just my mistake. For those who aren't aware, Japanese names are traditionally written with one's surname or "last" name first. Obama Barack, Smith Will, etc. In certain series (Haikyu, BNHA, TG) we reverse the ordering because it can be confusing for readers to identify which is a character's first name and which isn't, especially when they are referred to by both. However, there's a strong existing precedent for NOT swapping names in One Piece, because "Luffy D. Monkey" just sounds weird. We've gotten used to the other ordering, and the rest of the names should follow suit. I forgot about that this week. My apologies. The name ordering is now fixed; it took me a bit longer than I'd like to get around to having it switched, however.

Finally, while we're talking about ordering, I'd like to offer my thoughts on the epithets of the two newly-introduced Vinsmoke siblings. People seem to be preferring an ordering that has the color come first, followed by the noun. That is, "Green Winch," not "Winch Green." Unfortunately, the latter ordering is the one given in the raws. Additionally, the epithet is not written in kanji or hiragana like a regular name; it literally is "Winchu Guriin" in katakana. with the information we have at the moment, I don't feel that that's enough to assume that it's an actual name and should therefore be reordered, especially given what I just mentioned about not reordering names in One Piece. People have also pointed to Sanji's name as an example of a "switched" ordering, but the two aren't exactly comparable. The reason Sanji's epithet, "Black Leg," is written in that order is because it is fundamentally different from his other siblings (so far, at least). As I mentioned earlier, "Winch Green" and "Poison Pink" are written in katakana. "Black Leg" is written in Kanji, and it's often written in the Japanese text after Sanji's own name, similar to how "Pirate Hunter" comes after Zoro's, or "Straw Hat" after Luffy's. Adjective ordering in Japanese dictates that these epithets be placed in FRONT of the names they describe. That's why you get "Straw Hat Luffy" not "Luffy the Straw Hat." As far as we can tell in this chapter, "Winch Green" and "Poison Pink" do not follow this pattern. Reiju refers to herself just as "the Poison Pink," not "Reiju the Poison Pink" or "Poison Pink Reiju." Of course, this information may change as we learn more about these characters, but at the moment, given the information we do have, I don't think we can assume that the ordering of the epithets of the two Vinsmoke siblings should be switched.

Someone compiled all of Oda's JUMP's comments from 1997-2013, I think that's pretty cool and should make for an interesting ans insightful read!

It's too bad that they aren't up to date anymore, with the weekly comments now being published more regularly:

Not entirely sure if this fits on here, but I also just saw someone who posted an album with most(all?) of WSJ's magazine covers since 1968! They also credit the folks of Mangahelpers :p

I guess this one was One Piece's first time on the cover then? At least that's the earliest one I could find!

- The pic of Oda's studio is awesome. The length of the pic is nearly 1 meter. I hope someone will share a beautiful scan.
- Oda usually prepares 30 pages of a chapter in his brain, but when actually drawing, he compresses it into 19 pages so that his audience can read a chapter at a fast pace.
- Oda assumes his audience spend 5 minutes on reading one chapter. In Oda's studio, there is a display on the wall which says, "5 MINUTES TO READ."
- After Sugita became ONE PIECE editor, Oda asked him if Sugita felt something weird in a chapter which had been already out.
Actually Sugita had hesitated to point it out since he thought it was a trivial matter. Then Oda scolded him, "Editor's opinion is important for me since you are the first audience. From now on, do not hesitate to disagree with me!" Sugita was impressed at Oda's sincere attitude.
- Editor Isaka talked with Oda about how to create an awesome last scene of Film Gold for 6 hours via telephone. Isaka thought Oda was a genius when he saw the sketches of the last scene submitted by Oda.

- Before Oda finished drawing Chapter 797 "Rebecca", Editor Sugita felt frustrated since the deadline was approaching, but once he read the actual chapter, he burst out crying. Oda said to him, "Actually I was crying too while drawing this chapter."
- Oda thinks he can't help tackling creating ONE PIECE film in the future despite him having said several times that he doesn't want to get involved in it..
- Concerning film, Oda thinks opening movie is more important than ending movie. Oda says he has never seen a cool anime in which characters sing and dance, so he decided to create an awesome opening movie that even adults can enjoy.
- In Oda's bookshelf, there are more than 60 visual dictionaries.

- There are some dietary supplements and a cigarette box on Oda's desk...
- There is a drawing which says, "Thank you for everything, dad" on the wall of Oda's studio.

This golden Du Pont lighter was designed by Oda himself in 2012. The amount of the products was only 55 in the world. Sanji also used it in manga and Film Z. The price is about 14 thousand US dollars! :

A pic of Ernesto "Che" Guevara. :teehee

We can see many setting notebooks about story, characters and moves. On upper right, there is a paper which says, "Kaidou, King, Queen, Jack"
:

Oda's daughter says in this drawing, "Thank you for everything, dad.":

Good stuff and I enjoy reading it. The best one is the drawing of Oda's daughter. Such a sweet girl who loves her daddy. :wub

I'm gonna add a "Newspaper" column in our One Piece Cover Thread to put in the newspaper covers. (It will be nice if every article in there is translated.)

Thank you for posting it, Erin. :super

As redon mentioned above, Oda appeared in a TV show today without showing his face.
He gave shoes and leg guards to Shinji Kagawa with his autographs. Shinji Kagawa is a Japanese professional footballer who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund and the Japan national team.
Kagawa is very glad since he is a big ONE PIECE fan. And Oda loves football. He was playing football in high school.
Here are some pics of the TV show. I hope someone will upload the whole video sooner or later.

By the way, Oda is going to draw 342 autographs for theaters in Japan to promote Film Gold..

Here is the video from Film Gold official twitter account.

da's new autograph was revealed yesterday in a TV show called SMAP SMAP.

[/SPOILER]

It's pretty rare that Oda draws all members of Straw Hats in one autograph. The person who wins ONE PIECE quiz will get this autograph in the future.
My jealousy knows no end now...

Here is the video, but it might get deleted due to copyright infringement.

Itw :
Previous/current 6 editors of ONE PIECE have a talk about Oda in a magazine called "TV Bros", which is released today

Summary of the talk :

- Oda defeated editor Asada in his studio via 3D fighting video game called "Bushido Blade" 20 times about 15 years ago. Oda doesn't cut corners even in games.

- Oda recently plays smartphone apps. He sometimes watches his assistants playing video games.
According to Oda, trendy games can stimulate his creativity. Oda says, "I'm loyal to new trends. I'm kind of a guy who can enjoy all new trends."

- Oda and editor Hattori got excited over talking about "Prison Break", especially about the scene in which

Brad Bellick, who had been a villain in Season 1, devoted his life to saving protagonists in Season 4.
Oda says, "That scene was exactly a Shounen manga-ish, right? As expected, Shounen manga might be the best medium to entertain people."

- Oda recommended some editors to watch "Young Gun".

- Oda rarely reads novels. Even after an editor recommends a novel to him, Oda reads only the page that the editor specified.
Editor Isaka wonders why Oda has so many vocabularies in manga despite not reading novels. Other editors answers that probably Oda's vocabularies are based on films, Rakugo and music.

- Oda basically loves soul music.

- Before a meeting, Oda often asks an editor, "Have you experienced anything interesting this week?"

- Editor Habuta compares Oda to Formula One car which keeps working hard.

- Before Oda started the serialization of ONE PIECE, he already drew many color spreads as training. He enjoyed it since he loves drawing.

- Oda says to editor Kawashima, "Die for ONE PIECE." Kawashima was shocked and moved to hear that, thinking "Oda is really determined to die for ONE PIECE."

- Editor Onishi had an email address that started "gintama-" since he was responsible for Gintama.
Oda asked him "Why is your email address about Gintama?" 5 seconds after hearing about it, Onishi changed it into "ONE PIECE 1ban-" (meaning "ONE PIECE is the best" in Japanese).

- After hearing about the finale of ONE PIECE from Oda, editor Hattori realized again that the story of ONE PIECE is awesome.
(All editors of ONE PIECE are supposed to be informed of the finale by Oda as an initiation.)

Has anyone seen this already?

One Piece Manga Creator Eiichiro Oda: Story Is About 65% Finished

So if in 2012 it was about 60%, and now it's at 65%, then that means that 4 years is more or less 5%. Does that mean that OP still has more than 20 years to go D: ?

Well, probably not but those numbers sure are scary. At least another 10 years, that's for sure.

I'd look at it this way: As long as Oda is able and willing, the manga should go on as long as it can be, under normal circumstances. But we can't predict a person's future that he will not call it a day at his own time.

As far as the story goes, One Piece seems to have completed three quarter rounds or close to it (as said 65%) and this last bit should stay for another 10 years or so considering the author's age.

Eh I wouldn't even consider that to be accurate, since authors can often make a prediction about how long their story will be, but right in the middle of their publication they can end up extending their story, for various reasons, and their prediction doesn't turn out to be accurate as a result.

Who knows? Considering that Oda has every arc planned out before it starts, we even saw pics of the booklet of the RA and Wano stuff while we were almost at the end of the Dressrosa arc, he could actually have a pretty accurate prediction about how long the story will be, and how many arcs it will feature. 10 years seems a given, I at least expect the publication to go on for another 15 years.

We have a long way to go before we see the end of OP, which is fine by me, since why would you want something good to end? As long as OP doesn't become like Bleach, which is highly doubtful, I'm not in a hurry to see it end.:^_^

An update from ANN on top 50 Japanese Comic ranking from July 11-17.
