Figured I'd bring this here, but this could be interesting (interaction wise). I dont expect Shanks to be a setup for Zoro Vs Mihawk. That's extreme. However, just like Shanks told Mihawk about Luffy several years back and then Mihawk returning to tell Shanks after he met Luffy, maybe Mihawk also told Shanks he met someone (Zoro) under Luffy who can potentially surpass both of them.

Then when Luffy and crew finally meets Shanks, Zoro does something impressive and Shanks either comments about that, telling Zoro he's ready or not ready to face Mihawk or it could just be an inner monologue. Wouldn't expect SHs to go on an all out battle against RH so there could still be chance for Shanks to meet up with Mihawk later and mention meeting Zoro so it all comes full circle.

I think Zoro vs Shanks could be just like the Davy back pirates vs pirates fight & then Luffy's words "I will find a crew that will surpass yours" to Shanks will also hold true then if Zoro beats Shanks or say if Zoro gets CoC & Zoro's CoC just very slightly edges out Shank's.

But yeah i agree lots of other scenarios are possible. If we add the current event of Mihawk being chased by Navy then very possibly he might go & ally with Shanks in NW & then when SH crew were to meet RHP then things will turn out with say a skirmish between Zoro vs Shanks & Shanks commenting on whether Zoro is ready or not for Mihawk followed by full on Zoro vs Mihawk.

Yeah so lots of cool possibilities are there compared to the BB killing Shanks plot coz that is way too much predictable and i would love it if Oda comes up with something better plot wise.

Oh, I like that, even in spite of the shojo art and whatnot. Made me wonder if at some point we might actually see perona affiliated to the strawhat pirates. Things aren't looking rosy for moria in general so it wouldn't be that strange given her connection to zoro if she eventually finds herself under their protection.

The 4th point is more of a Roger mystery in my opinion. He's the first person we saw with that strawhat and we don't know where he got it from.

I would think that Usopp would've died or atleast would've been rendered unconscious when his skull cracked if he wasn't one of the Strawhats. Anyone else find this part a bit too strange even for One Piece? Like how serious should the injury be for one (who isn't like Whitebeard etc) to actually die

Didn't Usopp survive a one ton bat to the head pre timeskip? That was the skinny Usopp. He's now got a six pack, gained combat abilities and grown older, how do you still expect him to be done by that?

By the way, there is also a possibility that Usopp's body is capable of taking damage like this from the start. Right after Little garden when Nami was affected by a parasite, the crew had no idea how to treat them, Usopp and Luffy said that they've never fallen sick in their lives. This may not have a connection but Oda is known to have put even more subtle references which have come true. If not, Usopp was lying and all his lies comes true, so....

Ok, this is a very old topic but I think recent SBS information actually has information pertaining to this: The connection between zoro and tashigi. In SBS oda has made the point that a shimotsuki from wano embarqued on a grand adventure 50 years back or so. Their travels lead them to village were zoro trained with his master and kuina.

Here is the SBS in question:

O: Ah, yes. You might have to follow very closely to picture this, but...let me explain! It all starts with Shimotsuki Kozaburo (swordsmith and swordsman)

1. He forges the "Enma" and bestows it to the heir of the Kozuki Family, Oden.
2. 55 years ago, he sets out to sea!
3. He and the samurai of Wano have a grand adventure!!
4. They make landfall in a certain place in the East Blue.
5. They save the locals from mountain bandits.
6. They teach the villagers the way of the sword, who become enamored with swordplay.
7. They decide to settle there, founding Shimotsuki Village.
8. His son, Koushirou, is born.
9. His granddaughter, Kuina, is born.

To put it in other words, who Zoro meant by "a geezer in his village" that he met was actually grandpa Shimotsuki Kozaburo-san himself, who comes from the Wano Country. Oh? Then could that mean...Zoro's lineage...?! Well, the story of Shimotsuki Kozaburo, the samurai who founded Shimotsuki Village, is all I'm willing to share today!

Now, oda teases the zoro thing but zoro's appearance is actually very similar to other confirmed shimotsuki. Zoro is basically identical to ryuma and looks like the siluette of another shimotsuki daimyo. With this it's pretty clear that zoro is a descendant from the shimotsuki. With the details we have we can't confirm he is kozaburo's grandchild of course but the connection is still clear. He could be related to a still unrevealed character or something to that effect.

Now, we get to tashigi. The thing to consider here is that the details concerning kozaburo's family are incomplete. So he could have had more children, other wifes, other relatives. When tashigi was introduced she showed she had a grade sword and an interest in famous blades. And how could she have gotten such an interest... the most obvious explanation is through her family. In this sense, the question ends up being how closely related the 3 are. The most likely scenario is IMO that the 3 of them are cousins. But it is also perfectly possible they are more distantly related. Kuina could potentially not even be a shimotsuki herself, with her connection to the 2 being through kozaburo's wife's family for instance. Shimotsuki village became enamored with swordsmanship so it's entirely possible tashigi's interest in swords stems from people without a direct blood connection to the shimotsuki. In a scenario like this kuina would have a blood relation to zoro and tashigi but zoro and tashigo wouldn't have any blood connection.

I am also theorizing on the possibility of two prophecies in OP...
Both the prophecies are a concern to the WG.

One path which connects to unification and freedom that results in adventure, something Roger started and Luffy will finish. To achieve this, the knowledge of real history is required. It will also align all the strawhats ambitions together. The WG is of the idea that the death of Roger resolved this, and the next threat, Ace was taken care as well. Now, Luffy is considered as a possible carrier of this path

The other path is the path of power, something started by Xebec, and directly aligns with Blackbeard. Both these pirates have taken the path of getting teh strongest skilled people and the threat is not just taking down the WG, but ruling the entire world through power. I think post Wano arcs will expose more of this path and shed light to the current strengths of Blackbeard and how he's closer to the OP than anyone else.
