Guys...remember when Oda knew how to pace a story? This felt like a mini-arc way back in 2022 when it started. 55 (and counting) chapters and nearly 2 years later, we are still on Egghead Island. It's painful.
Did Egghead really begin in 2022? That's crazy. I hate time.

September 2022. And if we are being honest, these 55 chapters (so far) really contain about 20 chapters of content. It's just so stretched. Even Vegapunk's recording (which had a bunch of chapters countdown to...) has barely said anything. There was a war, Joyboy lost, and ancient weapons will be used again. Which...we already knew? And didn't need this many chapters for Vegapunk to say (but of course we needed to see every single character we've ever been introduced to react to this lol).

I kind of wish he would rush a little lol. Like did we need 3 chapters almost exclusively dedicated to people reacting worldwide to Vegapunk? Did we need to see Wapol's reaction? Really?

I wish... I recently read Dr. Stone, so good, to think it was made in just 5 years...
Meanwhile in 5 years we got Wano and Vegapunk.

I mean part of that is that we all EXPECTED for Egghead to be a quick transitionary arc like Zou and it ended up being way more like a normal major arc instead. Also a good chunk of those 55 chapters were outside of Egghead, and totally necessary to have despite breaking up the A-plot. Egghead's had some awkward pacing and a limping release schedule but I don't think it's going to be nearly as bad outside the weekly wait.

Agreed on parts...but can't say it hasn't dragged. Like the last 3 chapters having 75% of the panels just being different people reacting (again...why do we need Wapol's reaction to this lol).

It's definitely excruciating right now but I really can't wait to see how this whole arc reads years down the line when we're eyeballs deep in whatever Void Month Final Arc shit that's going down. I remember a lot of the last parts of WCI were very much as excruciating as this but have been largely forgiven after Wano kinda overshadowed it with the insane pacing problems of Onigashima.

So will Bonney go to Elbaf with the Straw Hats to learn more about Nika?

But it's not a normal arc. It's a flashback and a climax. The arc before is rushed. Neither the Vegapunk satellites nor Stussy work. The Seraphim are underwhelming, Sentomaru's closure was shoehorned into the finale, Lucci and Kaku are brainless. There is really nothing worth rereading, there aren't any good gags to surprise you again and again, there's no cool battle that you want another look at, there's no adventure and the Straw Hats are glued to the floor. "An arc from the future", doesn't sound all that convincing, right?

It's normal that Oda slows down the climax because he wants this countdown thing in every arc, but it was a big mistake to offscreen the Seraphim fight.

The next arc should just be normal again. There's just three story arcs after Egghead it seems - Elbaf, Laugh Tale and Final War. Elbaf is the last opportunity for normal One Piece. It has to be told slowly, there's like 50 major characters that still need closure.

Given how Oda handled Wano’s ending and just not re-introduced Momo into the plot, I get the feeling it didn’t matter to him how many details were missing from Wano’s ending, because he’s now treating Chapters 1115 and 1116 as if they’re fragments of that that he just decided to save for later.

Like, he could have had the scenario where someone explains to Momo in an alternative Chapter 1057 that Pluton was put in Wano by Joy Boy for future generations in an ongoing Ancient War, but evidently, Oda waited until Vegapunk’s broadcast to bring Wano back again.

So basically, Egghead is its own thing while simultaneously being a quasi-continuation of Wano. It’s an interesting choice, for sure.

One Piece: News rumors

- Major hiatus possibly coming after the conclusion of Egghead arc. Oda wishes to prepare before drawing the final arc and pages of his beloved series.

- The beginning of the end to Luffy’s journey is coming with a huge surprise reveal to close off Egghead arc.

- Oda, also in the process of working on the next anime feature film, set for Summer 2025 release. The new film will shed some light on the mysterious incident of God Valley.

- There’s also, work for Season 2 of One Piece and “The One Piece” reboot series for Netflix. Oda promises season 2 will be bigger than first season.

There’s idea that Uranus sank God Valley 38 years ago, since its disappearance off the map has been compared to Lulusia’s disappearance. But if that’s true, then would Vegapunk have had any idea about it back then?

That was nearly 40 years back... vegapunk at that point probably didn't have the equipment or resources to understand what was happening. Post ohara he joined the WG precisely for resources...

Ya know, given how Egghead is near its ending, and crappy ass Wano ending aside, I'm kinda glad, Tama, Carrot, and Yamato, didn't have to be dealing with Egghead right now.

Tama would prob struggle to get animals to obey her.

Carrot would have struggled using her Sulong against the Elders even with Chopper's drug.

Yamato would have just been all other the place attacking anything that moves before get flung back and being relegated to protecting Robin like Nami and the others were.

This would have been an unsatisfying arc for all of them. I'm glad they're getting development elsewhere, because this arc wouldn't have really given it to them.

Aside from Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro, none of the Strawhats have played a huge role in this arc. If Carrot joined (which she should've), she would've been in good company in her lack of making a difference.

I'd say Nami and the others played a good role in protecting Robin from Saturn. Not as satisfying since it wasn't much, but still something.

I kinda equal parts agree and disagree. It did end up being a transitionary arc, just ended up being one twice the size of Zou Arc. The Vegapunk Satellites thing didn't work for me because why even have other human civilian scientists on the island if they were going to be entirely background characters and not a single one gets a name or anything. Also it's just... really unclear how the Satellites even work, or what the consequence is of any of them dying or defecting. Does Lilith have to eat and shit now? Is she even designed to be able to do those things? It's somehow over- and under-thought out.

Stussy is a truly strange one. This complex double agent mega spy who also moonlights as an underworld boss that was cloned from a Rocks Pirate... uses the same name as the Rocks Pirate she was cloned from, who is also still alive. Like how tf does that work? Her character feels like it was thrown in just so the arc had some pathos but it does kinda fall flat. That said, I do genuinely hope she and Kaku just fuck off and have a cover story adventure.

There haven't been any good gags in ages, that's not really a problem specific to Egghead, same with adventure. Most of all the good gags and adventure are pre-TS. Everything post-TS is more mission/task-oriented. Not exactly worse per se but I definitely wish we had the time to get a post-TS arc that was closer to Skypiea/Thriller Bark/or even LRLL.

Hard disagree on the fights, there's been a lot of cool shit on that front. Nobody was expecting the Gorosei to show up and start wrecking shit.

I hope Elbaf has the best parts of pre-TS fun and adventure and post-TS spectacle and lore.

Stussy is weird since it feels like she was meant ti be focused on more and yet she isn’t, and delaying further appearance just to have her sacrifice herself like Monet seems pretty unsatisfying for me.
