I wish the sound team would risk a bit more. The steps, the charging noises...I know know, it looks good. I hope that Wit studio will bring a bit of more natural sound design.

Sound design is the #1 thing I'm most looking forward to about that remake. I cannot describe how absolutely sick I am of the stock Toei sound effects being DECADES behind the competition being slapped onto animation that is modern as all fuck. It's like putting horse carriage wheels on whatever a nice modern car is. It's clearly not budget, it's musty-ass brand recognition and it's arrogant to keep shoving those SFX in.
The funny thing is that the One Piece anime has never been film quality, even when it was in its heyday.
Never thought I'd see Toei do this. That's great.
I'm fairly sure "OP Staff" is only talking about the recent bump in quality that ramped up through Wano into Onigashima and then Egghead. While not "film quality" the entire time, a lot of the ridiculous sequences we get certainly are. Now whether or not I enjoy a lot of those stylistically is another question lol
I feel like the whole shonen anime industry is still going through massive growing pains from the events of covid onwards. IIRC they weren't doing a whole lot of outsourcing to foreign artists before that, and now there seems to be a financial incentive to not churn these episodes out endlessly. Broadcast airing *had* the incentive to endlessly make episodes, but the status quo is now streaming, and there's zero reason to push out a half-shit product year round if every competitor is (relatively) killing it with seasonal releases. AND it's probably getting difficult to keep people on the staff of an anime that is an absolute nightmare meatgrinder in a post-covid environment where animators are getting the slightest bit more recognition and spotlight.
I figured they’d reach their breaking point on slowing the anime release schedule down since Oda’s breaks kept stacking up, and looks like it has finally caught up with them.

Don't expect much of the remake. It's not likely to be much better in raw quality since they won't be redoing it entirely.Personally I would prefer a remake of Impel Down and Marineford instead of FI. Just imagine Whitebeard and admirals fighting with this animation.

They'll get to it in the coming years if as I predicted this becomes a yearly trend for development going forward. First come first serve, and Fishman Island is one of the worst adapted arcs in the series. They reached that point long ago, imo, I believe maybe the One Piece reboot anime announcement, made them reconsider their perspective and things, that were rooted for decades.
Furthermore I'm pretty positive Toei's internal management knew about The One Piece for quite a looooooooong time before the public announcement. All of this has been a chain reaction that was basically set in motion (or at least greatly accelerated) by covid imo. That and streaming supplanting broadcast as the status quo totally changed the industry in a way that it's still having a lot of growing pains over. I'm really hoping for the death of the neverending-shonen-adaptation pipeline.
