I can't imagine the OP life action even having the budget to do marineford. Let alone that if by some miracle the story makes it that far and it's still good the cast will be 20 years older. At which point they would have moved onto other things or just have to be recasted simply because they are too old to look the part. At this point in the story luffy should be 17, zoro and sanji 19-20, nami 17, chopper 15 I think... As great as the casting generally is (though I think the zoro actor is incapable of capturing zoro's goffy or badass side) you'd think them 20 years older than they are supposed to be won't look good.

10 seasons for pre timeskip

😂
I was thinking it'd be a decade before we get to Marineford but hey maybe without filler it will go by faster than we think.

I'm hopeful but I don't think the show will even make it to Water 7 lol
Oooh I think it would be a good place to end it. They stand against the WG and win. Plus a Luffy vs Lucci fight would translate the best to live action since its martial arts based.

My on thought it what if they use AI to keep them looking young or they sell their likeness. But they could also just make it more realistic and say the trip is taking them decades instead of just months.

I hope that in a couple hundred chapters, that MMA Loki froze is thawed out and just lives on Elbaf, just like that one shield homie Big Mom left behind. Then maybe Biblo can resize the MMA, and it can use the shield homie and they become besties.

I think it’s a little better. Smoker’s cgi was really cool.

I actually really like the idea of the cast aging with the story. One of my biggest pet peeves about One Piece and similar stories is how the MCs are these plucky youths that have to remain plucky youths for the length of the story but also have to topple these decades-in-control veterans.

Inaki being in his mid-30's by the time his version of Luffy fights Kaidou may not be as Marketable To The Youths but it sure as shit makes more sense for a guy to be at his physical peak after he's been an adult for longer than a few weeks.

I definitely see a lot of upside in allowing them to age especially if they make the voyage take more of a real world time frame of years instead of just days. I do think they are being ambitious about how long they expect the story to go since they introduced some characters from PS so early on. From a scale point of view though I do think they'll struggle by the time they enter the MF arc but maybe effects will get cheaper to do with time. Personally as fun as a live action is I'm more excited about the anime remake.

That shouldn’t really be a problem, since the live action is targeted more towards adult fans of the series.

I think this is where the limitations of live action come into play. Luffy in the manga largely acts like a child or maybe a deranged teenager but when we reach marineford and the actor is 35 things are going to look creepy unless luffys character is adjusted.

I think they've already made some adjustments in the character portrayal since they are not as extreme in their personalities as they are in the manga/anime. So the show is definitely willing to make these types of changes to make the live action more palatable. Wouldn't be surprised if they also include consistent character growth too as they age.

Yeah, all of the characters, except maybe Zoro who is actually getting a personality that is more than just “being a badass”, had their personalities a little watered down to make them more realistic.

Marineford is plenty mature enough (though it is way more dramatic with Luffy there as a kid) but imagine them doing the mushroom/dick joke on Amazon Lily with 36 year old Inaki lmao

I mean, that’s easily cut, and Inaki can’t really pull off most of the Luffy gag moments anyways.

He looks like Luffy, but can’t really do anime/manga Luffy’s personality at all.

They definitely tamped down Sanji's obsessiveness with women. So far he and Usopp are my favored portrayals in the live action. I think they captured the essence of their characters the best.

They will definitely cut that joke...maybe do a variation on it instead. And hard agree, I actually feel he makes Luffy seem creepy more than just a fun/dumb guy. The way he stares in moments that are supposed to capture Luffy's more intense moments are just a weird. I also haven't liked Zoro much, he is just too aloof. Zoro may not be bombastic or anything but the way the live action portrays him its like he is just a robot...even when he is mad he seems subdued.
