The content of the flashback itself I think is pretty nice. From how its going I do think it will be one of the shorter flashbacks but understand what you mean on how it will feel long. Not only are we dealing with breaks but most readers want to get back to the current conflct so it makes it harder to wait. Had he inserted this flashback earlier it could have felt more natural to the plot.
Yeah, exactly. If it happened earlier it would feel more natural, just like you said. And yeah, this flashback IS rather nice but the moment in which it was introduced may make many people hates it anyway. Even if it will be on shorter side.

So, I'm slowly approaching timeskip. I just finished Thriller Bark and there are few things.
1. Knowing that Moria was part of Kozuki clan (or at very least "honorary" member) makes his biff with Kaido quite interesting. But I still don't feel sorry for him. He tackled problem of members that could leave him or die in completly unacceptable way. He was literally desecrating graves and selfishly ruining peoples lifes so he won't have to suffer any loss again. And also become king of pirats the easiest way possible.
2. It's honestly pretty cool that we actually meet part of Xebecs crew all the way back in Thriller Bark. But we didn't even knew it up until two most recent arcs, that is Egghead and Elbaf.
3. I remember quite vividly that confrontation with Kuma didn't really felt like real threat when I first time watched but knowing his past makes it hit completly diffrent. He had an eye on Luffy all the time and back then on Thriller Bark he used that opportunity to test the Strawhats and even people they saved. After all in pirat world loyality often evaporates at moment notice when situation gets dangerous.
4. Brook literally can't catch a break. Currently we're learning that he probably had to flee his country, his royal bro died, then as a pirat he outlived his captain and technically even his crew. Aaand then he got stuck alone in Florian Triangle for 50 years and even lost his shadow for 5 years. His life is tragedy interwoven with moments of happiness but mayby now when he is Strawhat things will be better for him.

Generally I never realised how much then unknown lore Thriller Bark hold until very recently. Btw, Absalom got his late karma delivered but since Hogback was basicaly necrophile who took his "beloved" from her family after she died and turned her into zombie I hope he also suffers in some dirt pit as homeless man without any future.

Maybe we could expect the Straw Hats to return to Fishman Island with Loki then, first to Punk Hazard and then to Fishman Island.
Well, I am sure they will meet with Shirahoshi again eventually, she is the current Poseidon. so most likely very important for the fight against Imu.

Is it just me or One Piece pacing is unberable right now? Maybe because anime switched into seasonal patches of episodes, but man - it's hard to watch. 1 chapter per episode Weekly was bad but now it is twice as bad

I told myself I wouldn't ask this again for awhile, so I'll ask it again since some time has passed, but what are you guys' thoughts now in regards to Yamato's return, especially in light of Oda explaining in the SBS that she's simply learning about the world for now?

I think she will join up with the crew or maybe just be part of the Grand Fleet with the remnants of Kaido’s crew.

She was way too strong to join at the end of Wano without messing up the monster trio thing, but I think Zoro and Sanji will be getting power ups soon, so that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.

The “trio” was already “messed up” with Jinbe being #3, nothing else said changes that.

But yes, she’d have to join, in order to fulfill Oden’s will. So Momo holding her back would just be a travesty to that.

No it wasn't? Oda specifically held off letting Jinbe join (twice!) until it was time for Zoro and Sanji to level up. He's even lampshaded it with Sanji's dorky insecurity about Jinbe.

It's the same exact situation with Yamato imo, he's just too strong right now until basically the whole crew levels up. Jinbe was "can repel an Emperor temporarily with type advantage" and Yamato is "can 1v1 an Emperor for an extended period of time". The crew just isn't at the level where Yamato doesn't run the risk of trivializing an arc's progress by simply being there.

Jimbei didn’t join until after Zoro and Sanji had both surpassed him. Yamato (and possibly Loki) won’t either.

In all likelihood, Imu coming down to the surface world is the first domino to fall in his eventual death, as he'll be severely weakened by the time he retreats to Mariejoa. It is fucking hilarious that the person who kicked over that first domino in the death of the devil god king ruler of the world... was Ussop talking mad shit. Mfer used the gamer word "coward" and Imu had to roll up like it was that one incredible bluesky post

Imu didn’t really give a shit about Usopp’s shit talk. He just said “whatever loser” rekt him and then went on with his day.

Luffy and Loki low diffing Gunkmu was what made Imu come down in person.

Those "few moments later" are Luffy and Loki beating and trapping Gunko and Imu realising who they are and that he can't control them like he does with everyone else. So, he had to come there in eprson and deal with them. Unless we see some flashback to Imu's thoughts when he left being something like "never mind my ancient enemies Joyboy and Niddhog, that random guy, Usso something, called me a coward, i can't let that slide!", I'm pretty sure Ussop could have said nothing and Imu would have still showed up.

omg i cannot believe after all these years narrative subtext is lost on people. i'm a legally recognized powerscaler and even I can understand that Loki whomping GunkoMu was LITERALLY secondary to Ussop's provocation. Again. I cannot stress more that "the first domino" is a thing I said.

Setting aside that Imu might be certifiably monkeyshit crazy it's pretty damn unlikely that ussop's words didn't land on some nerve. If imu runs into ussop it wouldn't be in the slightest bit strange that imu makes him eat his words.

How so? I honestly think One Piece should go seasonal way earlier. With current amount of breaks Oda have to take I'm afraid anime may run out of material due to catching up to manga. Also I find fact that just FIRST SEASON of One Piece have soooooo many episodes super hilarious. Call me weird but it's just soo funny to me.

Umm, I know it's a funny thing to talk about but it deffinetly wasn't because of Usopp. Imu just decided to play Thanos and went "Fine, I'll do it myself." which indeed may be his end because well: HE ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE. He isn't made for it anymore.

Yup, that is fully correct. Imu (despit fact he shouldn't leave Marie Geoise at all) knew that if he won't make a move his Knights will be easily defeated by just Luffy and Loki. But it will deffinetly cause more problems but not for our heroes. For Imu and WG itself.

I understand your points and your concerns are valid, but the manga evidence leads me to respectfully disagree.

For crying out loud, Jinbe had to fist Lucci to save Zoro. lol

Will I am sure Imu doesn't like to be called a coward and such, the fact that his host body and army were losing to NotJoyboy and Big Mean Dragon and friends is what caused him to go there in person. Plus, he made Ussop eat those words pretty much after, when he beat the hell out of him. maybe when they finally confront him for good and Mary Geoise, Imu sees him and remembers the insult and maybe seds a massive exploding spirit thing after him, or something.

But this has nothing to do with powerscale or whatever, this has to do with the fact that Imuko was losing and so where his knights and possesed giants, so he had to go in person and solve the situation, especially since his old enemies/freinds/whatevertheywere are there opposing him. Also, come one, the first domino? The first domino to Imu losing was when Shanks stole the Gomu/Nika fruit or when Luffy ate it, (or Luffy existing in general).

I absolutely love Jinbe and have zero affection for both Zoro AND Lucci and like... what? Jinbe broke up what was essentially two completely winded school children, it wasn't a feat of his strength to knock over nearly-dead Lucci and scamper off with Zoro on his shoulder

It's not funny, it's just literally what happened.

Infinity War didn't have Spider-Man directly trash-talk Thanos minutes before Thanos teleports into the plot to take damage

Also Thanos did *everything* himself, his mooks barely did anything.

I'm obviously talking about direct cause and effect in relation to Imu's chosen actions and not "well to find the first domino, you have to create the universe". I've never really been an Ussop fan before but between all the hate he's gotten this arc and the absurd lack of credit he's given are kinda making me root for him like I never have. Y'all crazy.

Come on, it's pretty clear oda is leaning hard into the "wings of the pirate king" thing. Jinbe and loki are not a part of this. Loki is not a bad guy but he is probably too chaotic to be an actual strawhat or accept being someone's subordinate. It's also entirely possible that in the endgame his goals, while not malevolent, do not align with luffy's.

oddly enough, loki doesn't seem to have any 'endgame goals', unlike his brother Hajrudin who has a clearly laid out dream of uniting the giants (that now kinda makes sense given his upbringing). loki just seems to want to protect Elbaf and its people, similar to how Yamato embodies the guardian deity of his people too. i don't think either are "joining the Strawhats" because of their places in the story, the power level thing just informs that narrative direction Oda made

i do think loki and luffy will have a major disagreement at some point about something that may recreate whatever falling out nidhogg's previous user had with joyboy or whomever
