Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

I haven't bothered reading the discussion up to this point, but it seems fairly obvious that Old WB >= Shanks >= Kaido

Kaido, in my opinion, even reflects in anger about WB's death because he thought WB was basically the only person that could kill him.
If that was the case he'd be dead by now.
Fact is: No one has been able to kill Kaido. Not even Whitebeard (even a prime one).
Kaido even wanted a dance with the old man before the war but Shanks stepped in in his place.
Kaido was only complaining that Whitebeard was able to pull off death. Something impossible for a powerful freak like himself yet another powerful freak died.
I guess that's why he's been planning an all out war gathering Zoan DFs.
He wants to try out another method of dying instead of the usual jumping off island or trying out executions.
A full blown out war against the world. I'm guessing he doesn't want it boring hence the need to amass armies.

Did Whitebeard and Kaidou ever have a serious fight? Whitebeard doesn't look like he'd kill anyone, probably just horribly horrible ones.

Why do you place Shanks above Kaido or anyone else when - if it's 1vs1, bet on Kaido?
Also, I think each Yonko is able to kill any other Yonko but the one who prevails the most is Kaido, that's why we should bet on him.
Because "Betting" is far... FAR from a guarantee.

Until you focus your retina and see that the phrase used was "always"

"If it's one on one, always bet on Kaido".

It means he's very consistent. He always delivers when it's one on one regardless of the opponent.

It's different from Katakuri where it says he was "undefeated". Not that he always wins.

"Always bet" is still not a garuntee. Instead of insulting my eye sight, focus on your understanding of certain words/phrases

Your always going to bet on the one most likely to win.

If Floyd Mayweather was going to fight a rookie that has no fighting experience you would ALWAYS bet on Floyd Mayweather because it's almost ALWAYS a sure thing... but it's still a bet. It's not guaranteed. There could be a fluke.

The word BET is what the focus is.

If the narrator has said "No matter the opponent, Kaido always wins" then you can make your arguement.

You dont need to be rude, I was just clarifying what the phrase meant.

Apologies if I sounded rude was just aiming a funny jibe at you.
No despicable intention from my part I assure you.

Your analogy is spot on:
"If Floyd Mayweather was going to fight a rookie that has no fighting experience you would ALWAYS bet on Floyd Mayweather because it's almost ALWAYS a sure thing... but it's still a bet"

Similarly, it's almost always sure that Kaido would win any one on one battle and yes it's still a bet.

It seems we have an agreement.

Again the eye jibe was nothing but an attempt at humour (apparently a bad one). :sweatdrop

I take it back if it still sounds offensive to you.

Actually, Whitebeard seems a lot more benevolent than say Roger.. Roger killed Spyder's entire crew cos they made fun of his nakama or something of those sorts... that's just bullshit crazy if we were to assume literal...

Whitebeard even gathered wealth and distributed it, Roger hid it all..... In regards to strength, i'd like to believe they were equal.

What about the impel down prisoners? none of the level 6 escapees other than BB crew members are revealed. werent some of them supposed to be silver medalists like Whitebead?

Assuming Roger had wealth or actually did hide his wealth.

He actually hid wealth as per Oda. He confirmed that he'll not pull a 'wizard of oz' at the end and the group will actually find treasure.

Because Shanks stopped Kaido from going to Marineford without receiving as much as a scratch.

Did WB ever fight Kaido? I don't remember anyone ever mentioning them in any direct conflict.

Oh. Then Roger hid wealth with One Piece as motivation to find it, then?

But Kaido didn't?

I think the manga implied the Yonko are very close in strength to each other, enough so that any conflict would take a while to resolve. But the eventual winner would always be Kaido. Of course in this case we don't know if the Beast Pirates and Red-Haired Pirates didn't started a war of battleships, without a duel between the captains.

Actually, regarding the WB, Kaido, Shanks before mainford part, i have a theory...

Kaido was on a suicide mission. He probably realized his best case to die would be through the hands of Whitebeard. But Shanks put a stop to it by saying, you'd have to go through me types situation and stalled him, and Kaido gave up on the idea...

That's exactly what I think.

Different translations and shit, but I thought Kaido obviously implied that WB was expected to kill him(before he knew he had to save Ace)/only person that could, then Shanks, then his anger led to jumping.

Kaido going to die by WB. Shanks apparently shits all over Kaido. And now Kaido big bad guy.

Everyone realizes we're overrating Kaido right? The bounty isn't necessarily their strength.

Kaido is getting more overrated than fucking Mihawk, Shanks, and Dragon. Everyone calm your titties.

This is my best drunk logic. Everyone be safe.

The manga didn't imply Kaidou would be a winner, just that the Yonkou are so close in strength that it'd always result in a Pyrrhic victory, which would make them open pickings for the next enemy, usually. It's not worth it for the Yonkou to fight each other or the Marines, and I"m assuming Kaidou actually wanted to kill Whitebeard, and he'd have succeeded in wiping out the Whitebeard pirates because it'd have been Whitebeard vs. the Marines and Beast Pirates, with possibly Blackbeard joining in on the fight unless he knows he's not safe at all.

I'm assuming Shanks either stopped Kaidou or stalled him long enough to get to Marineford first, and he could have predicted the Marines going crazy in trying to kill the Whitebeard pirates so he wanted to get there ASAP. I don't think it was that much of a fight as we think it was, just a very brief skirmish.

I think the people above are on something about Kaido expecting that Whitebeard would be the one to kill him. That's why he tried to prevent him from starting a war against the Marines, and Shanks stopped Kaido because he wanted Ace to be rescued.

Been rewatching one piece anime, got to thinking about Crocodile. What do you think the chances are that his ability to dry things out and make sand is an awakening ability? It looks almost exactly like he two awakenings we’ve seen, canon that is.

I wouldn't be surprised, Crocodile specifically mentioned he mastered his ability to perfection. The fact that technique is tied to one of his hands is interesting.
