Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Yamato didn't user her Zoan Vs Ace because it wasn't shown.
So does that mean Kaido didn't use his hybrid against Oden? So Kaido was holding back? 😂

No offense but when it comes to power scaling, context also need to be noted. Can't be one dimensional.
There is a reason why Yamato's Zoan wasn't shown in the fight against Ace. It's called story telling.
Ace and Yamato was shown as equals in the manga.
We all know that Hybrid > Human/Zoan so yes Yamato holding back vs Ace. Also she mentioned that she had no serious interest in protecting Kaido's castle, so she wasnt giving it her all.
Ace did get stronger since his fight with Yamato but at that time he was weaker than Jimbei or was about to be Jimbei's equal since it happened before Jimbei and WB meeting/battle.

Ace was low diffed by BB. BB 's weakness is that his DF absorbs all damage and that he is extremely overconfident/lets his guard down as weve seen with Magellan and WB fights. BB couldve defeated Magellan the first time but he was careless. BB stopped WBs DF punch was overconfident but then was slashed by WB. So we know BB >>> Ace. BB almost broke Ace's neck, Ace himself mentioned it.

I doubt Ace would survive G4 punches. Luffy surprassed Ace during Dressrosa with Gear 4.

also Killer is not YC level, it is hard seeing him defeat Jack or Cracker or even Doffy. People like to overrate him because he harmed Kaido with a slash but then again so did Raizo, Kiko, Izo, Kawatmatsu etc.

My point is that we do not know if Yamato used her Zoan or not. I can't prove it to you, but you can't prove it to me either.

And she was serious. Even though she hated Kaido, she made sure nobody got in. Just because I hate my father doesn't mean I will let random pirates into my house.

The rest I do not want to discuss because it's headcanon. Except BB is stronger than Ace (this I agree with).

Normally I wouldn't take this to heart but the spoilers show that Zoro will need a power-up to beat King.
Of course he will. Sanji had a power-up, so Zoro will get a power-up.

The series is annoyingly symmetrical now, Kid and Law revealed their Awakening at the same time, and did similar damage to Big Mom, etc.

Everyone here saying that Ace stalemate Jimbe, but are forgetting that the same Ace stalemate Smoker in Alabasta. And Aokiji in MarineFord. And I don’t think anyone here puts Ace = Jimbe = Smoker = Aokiji = Yamato. If there’s one thing that Oda really don’t know is how to measure is the power level of some characters.

Zoro took on Kaido alone without any help from anyone else when he scarred him. If it had been just Kaido and Zoro on the roof and Zoro had gone straight for Asura do you think he wouldn't have been able to scar Kaido and make him cough up blood ? The instant you scar your opponent for life and make him cough out blood, the fight stops being a low diff in my book, even if Zoro had got taken out shortly after the fact that he would have bloodied up Kaido a bit and given him some new scars means it cannot be considered a low diff.

I don't doubt WB was still top tier in terms of raw power but he was definitely suffering from some issues, his CoO was compromised, and his heart attacks were a big liability. WB as he was then was definitely a lot weaker than Kaido overall. And I don't think even Primebeard was as durable as Kaido.
STOP! You phrased it to sound like Zoro and Kaido had an actual one on one fight. Kaido was going to put down Luffy, and Zoro literally has to yell at him to get his attention and then he fires off ONE ATTACK! That is not a fight; that isn't even a skirmish. Zoro didn't "TAKE ON" Kaido by himself, and he fired off one last-ditch attack. You're making it sound like that had a fair fight, that did not happen. If Zoro is fighting Kaido one on one the fight is ending QUICKLY. Zoro is getting put in the dirt, and there's a reason Oda had it be a 5 vs 2 because util Luffy could use advanced COC no Supernova could fight Kaido one on one.

Issues aside WB was literally called the strongest pirate and was on the same level as Shanks. Who cares if WB isn't a durable as Kaido, I doubt ROGER is as durable as Kaido, it doesn't matter. WB is low-diffing Zoro. WB is sending Zoro to the afterlife with one clean hit.

And King isn't that strong, you're claiming him to be so you can wank Zoro even more.

Ace vs Smoker, I thought it was funny how Ace seem equal to Smoker, both abilities cancelled each other out. But if Ace was really that powerful he shouldve defeated Smoker easily. Maybe Ace wasnt being serious like when Yamato fought Ace.
Ace vs Jimbei is the real deal.
Ace vs Aokiji was just one attack stalemated the other, but I am 100% certain Aokiji would defeat Ace, if Aokiji lastd 10 days fighting Mamga Akainu than Ace's fire would be NO problem to him.
Ace vs Yamato, I keep repeating myself, Yamato > Ace but some people want to overrate Ace and say he was equal to somebody who is YC1 level which is ridiculous. Ace never showed us he was anywhere near YC1. He was inexperienced and young, his potential would be as great as Luffy's but he died.

Ace and Smoker stalemate purely because of their ability matchup, and Ace wasn't earnestly trying to beat Smoker. They do the same thing with Sabo and Smoker, even though we all know Sabo would easily beat Smoker.

That just means King is strong, not that Kaido is weak.
I get your point, but it would still be a low diff IMO. Zoro used up everything he had on Kaido, and he only got a scar and was still on his feet, didn't even momentarily get knocked down.

Yeah, I too think Kaido > Marineford WB. Still, Marineford WB had haki comparable to Shanks, who IMO has better haki than Kaido. Kaido would high diff Marineford WB
Prime WB is more durable than Kaido cause he had insane haki. Kaido's natural dura is amazing, but it's not something that you can't surpass with amazing haki. IMO peak WB mid-high (moreso high) diffs Kaido

****

Regardless, Zoro isn't close to even Marineford WB level.
He isn't even admiral tier now

There are still few more arcs in one piece. It would make no sense for Zoro to reach Yonko tier now, when Mihawk is Zoro's endgame.
Zoro, by the end of the series, would be slightly above Mihawk/Shanks; and Luffy slightly above Roger/WB/Garp. But that's not happening anytime soon

I'd say. when Wano is all done, Luffy would be moreso comparable to upper admiral level, like Akainu/Aokiji; and Zoro moreso comparable to lower admiral level, like Fujitora/Marco

1. I think Base Kaido is stronger than his Zoan form. As for one-shotting Luffy, I think that was a. a semi-outlier and b. I consider Kata the weakest YC1 and also think he sort of let Luffy win. I do not see Base Kaido one-shotting Marco or Beckmann or King.

2. Honestly I'm not sure about Luffy struggling with Blueno, part of me thinks it was partially plot and Oda wanting to show off G2 or maybe Luffy got stronger after that fight. As you said Lucci was 5 times as strong as Blueno and Luffy was struggling with Blueno and then fighting evenly with Lucci, which makes no sense. I don't think Lucci was holding back either, he was giving it all he had in his base form.

Some people do say Doriki was just a gag by Oda making fun of power levels and don't use it for serious scaling. Maybe we were supposed to get the feeling that Lucci was a lot stronger than Blueno not necessarily exactly 5 times as strong.
1. Why would that be? Doesn't really make much sense, since conventionally Hybrid > Zoan > regular
As for it being outlier, maybe, I can see your point. Not sure what to make of all this. Because, I am 100% sure that G4 Luffy brimming with armament haki is easily more durable than even current Law. And current Law tanked a thunder bagua
And as much as I hate it (he's my most fav YC) , Katakuri seems to be the weakest YC1. Still I think he lost on purpose in the end (moreso gave up, knowing Luffy will never stop fighting)
And yeah, I don't see Kaido one shotting any YC1 either.

2. Base Luffy would've still beat Blueno, but it wouldn't have been a low diff.
I watched the entire W7/Enies Lobby arc without missing any episode or fast forwarding, 1-3 weeks back (over a span of two weeks). I can say with absolute confidence that base Lucci was easily overwhelming base Luffy. In fact, he was soloing both base Luffy and Franky. And, G2 Luffy was equal to hybrid Lucci. G2 is a much bigger powerup than hybrid form

Marineford Whitebeard never had haki comparable to Shanks. The moment he came off the meds, his haki dropped as Marco has stated and Squardo showed.

You're right

Marineford WB vs Kaido, who do you think wins, and with what diff?

In my opinion, for a fight to be considered low diff. Someone has to take no damage whatsoever. A fight is only a low diff if it is a flawless victory.

Kaido vs Old WB would be a high diff only if he gets no heart attacks, if he gets a heart attack it would be lower.

WB and Roger are human beings. They aren’t freaks like Kaido and BM, even in their primes I don’t think they were as durable as Kaido/BM. They were superior fighters overall but I don’t think they had their tanking ability.

They did lol. Luffy was KOed, Killer and Kid were fighting Big Mom somewhere completely else, and Law wasn’t doing anything at the time. And Kaido was in much better shape than Zoro at the time. For a few seconds, Kaido and Zoro had a 1v1. There is no logical reason why Zoro wouldn’t have managed to scar Kaido in a 1v1. If he scarred Kaido when he was being restrained by Kidd and was teleported in front of him by Law or something like that then you would have a point. Zoro scarred Kaido completely by himself.

I guess it's just different standards
What you're describing is "no diff" to me. "Low diff" may or maynot result in injury, just that the opponent is far weaker than you. Still, a full power clean shot from them would give you some injury

Yeah, agree on that. High diff if no heart attack, Mid diff if we're looking at the exact WB from Marineford

Kaido and BM are just naturally super tanky. But haki is a great equalizer. Considering overall durability (natural + haki), Roger and WB are above them. The reason Luffy can tank attacks from Kaido is because of haki, his natural dura is nothing to Kaido
Let me put it this way. An attack from Roger would do less damage to WB, than the same attack to Kaido.

I guess, it depends on situation, who is tankier. Kaido can't be hurt without advanced armament haki, and can't be defeated without advanced conqueror's haki (deeper/lethal wounds require advanced conqueror's, shallower wounds can be achieved by advanced armament).
WB and Roger can be hurt from normal attacks without even haki, if they're caught off guard. They're more dependent on haki since their natural dura is low.
So, in a Yonko level fight, WB and Roger are tankier. Against scurbs, Kaido is way tankier

You're partly right. Kid and Killer were no longer there, Law wasn't doing anything, and Luffy was out cold.

But, IIRC Zoro was able to get that hit on Kaido because Kaido was focused on ending Luffy (who was down). It could be that Zoro wouldn't have been able to land the hit on Kaido in a pure 1v1, because there would be no other distraction

Kaido is pretty fast when he actually puts his mind to it. He was dodging attacks from Luffy and Zoro after he understood that they can hurt him

no that's not what happened , zoro didn't one v one kaido, law first saved him, it was a one panel attack where all zoro did was attack first

kaido is then staring down luffy preparing to kill him

zoro then jumps in

gets his blow in , does do damage but kaido then prepares to put zoro further in the dirt

IT'S NOT A 1 V 1 , like a continuous exchange ala luffy vs kaido or yamato vs kaido

I guess these are all fan-made terms so different people have different definitions.

For me, a no-diff would be if someone finger flick KOs someone or something similar. Or passively KOs someone with their CoC. Kizaru vs Drake or Kizaru vs Urouge in Sabaody is what I’d call a no-diff.

I disagree, Kaido was facing Zoro and tried to defend himself from the attack. Dead Man’s Game is just a really fast attack.

I also do think Roger and WB would take more damage from Yonko-level attacks than Kaido or BM. Don’t get me wrong they’d beat them due to superior speed, attack power, CoO etc. But in terms of durability I’d rank them above Roger and Primebeard.

Isn't exactly that what I said?
That Zoro got the hit on Kaido when he was focused on Luffy?

Edit: Also, Law saving him isn't really relevant here, cause Zoro was busy restricting prometheus. And this happened some time before Zoro's attack

Yeah, but until then he was focused on Luffy.

Zoro's speed is still commendable, but I don't think Zoro would've got that hit on Kaido in a pure 1v1

In my opinion the time-frame between “Hey, Kaido” and “Zolo, get out of here” was a 1v1. It was just Zoro vs Kaido, no one else was interfering or helping. Kaido was looking at Zoro and tried to defend, and Zoro still managed to wound him.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree here. I think he would have managed to get the hit in even in a 1v1. Once Zoro said Hey Kaido, Kaido stopped focusing on Luffy and was focusing all of his attention on Zoro.

Once Zoro said Hey Kaido, Kaido stopped focusing on Kaido and was focusing all of his attention on Zoro.
Let me put it this way.
I'm in a fight and looking on someone knocked out, preparing to finish him off.
Another guy calls me out, and immediately attacks me. His chance for landing the hit on me is obviously higher, than if I was focused on him the entire time.

Sure

I guess we could keep arguing about this forever so I’ll just give my final comment. Zoro didn’t just call out Kaido and attack him immediately. He gave a full one-liner, flowed Haki into Enma and then entered his Asura state and only then did he attack. In my opinion that was more than enough time for Kaido to focus 100% of his attention on Zoro. Heck in the panel it kinda looks like Kaido was trying to intercept Zoro. Not to mention that Zoro was probably slower than normal due to being badly injured.

Yea, I do see your point. It's debatable

All in All; Rooftop fight was a 2 Yonkou vs 5 SN fight. That ended up with them splitting the Yonkou up; It became 2 SN vs 1 Yonkou each. Only Luffy & Yamato had a 1 VS 1.

Kaido tried to react but Zoro already caught him with his attack. Zoro being able to catch Kaido mid reaction is a attack speed feat. Kaido reacted but his attention wasn’t on Zoro before Zoro got in his stance.

Rooftop was Dope asf. A lot feats are Outliers. 1 on 1 all of the SN would of got stomped! They hurt the Yonkou on different levels but it was all brushed off.

BigMom sustained no real damage until Awaken abilities hit her; Kaido received no real damage until Zoro, Law & Luffy landed their last few hits before Kaido won the gauntlet lol.

Big Mom Is up against 2 SN captains that are tethering the YC1+ Lv; They are still gonna get whipped and have been losing the whole time.

Zoro was never gonna fair well against Kaido 1 vs 1 I’m hindsight. Same way Luffy didn’t. It makes sense that he’s in a high difficulty fight with King at the moment. Zoro’s Yonkou threatening attacks leave him very vulnerable and exert a lot of haki
