Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

The movies also portrayal Lucci being relative to Sabo. Yes they aren't canon, but I think certain inputs like this comes from Oda
We don't have any good measure of Sabo's power, other than having a hard time against Fujitora

And Rob Lucci could have gotten stronger since the movie...

Kaku and Stussy probably will be YC3 tier, or upper tobiroppo tier

I think Lucci will be YC1+
He is built different compared to other CP agents. He lives to fight, wouldn't pass up any opportunity to fight.

I'd agree that Lucci is YC1+ if we learn he is pretty much the best that CP0 has to offer. I just have been under the impression that CP0 would have had their own equivalent of a Lucci who is their best fighter. But might just turn out that person is Lucci which lets Oda re-use a character vs introducing a new one.

This panel goes so hard.

They were absolutely ready to jump Greenbull and it would have been an absolute massacre.

I've had Lucci and Sabo squarely at YC1 for like a year now off of what little we know about them, but I wouldn't doubt it if power creep moves them higher up sooner rather than later. I had no idea about how they were portrayed in the movies, so interesting I just sorta independently came to that conclusion. It just makes sense for the top underlings of the WG and Revolutionaries respectively to be on par with one another.

Honestly I hope Lucci ISNT YC1. To think that after 2 years he went from GL-Paradise top tier maybe Rear Admiral below Vice Admiral to a YC1 is outrageous. Not even Luffy made that high jump.
Pre TS Luffy was below VA and after TS he went YC3 level (with G4) then went through difficult fights to earn YC1 and finally defeating Kaido in a joint effort did he become low Yonko level. Luffy fought extremely difficult opponents to get where he's at.
If Lucci pulled a Frieza (like somebody else mentioned) and became that strong it is going to be disappointing and poor story telling.

I see Lucci top YC3 but we'll see. Also Oda is so inconsistent with power levels.

Lucci doubled his douriki in two years of being undercover and hiding his abilities. Him being YC1~ after two years of being butthurt over what happened with Luffy and going into the New World isn't so mindbreaking to me, especially now that Luffy is beyond that, and some characters (like Kid and Law) have shown that you can reach the YC1 threshold just because the plot demanded it, without earning it despite being an active part of the story.

So in my case, I'd be very disappointed if Lucci is not there.

We have no idea who Lucci fought or what he went through after losing to Luffy, except that he was hounded by the WG. So it stands to reason he was constantly fighting people above his pre-TS weight class before regaining his position in CP and even getting a promotion to CP0. You cite Luffy going from pre-VA to Yonkou over the same amount of time as fine with what he went through, but with no further knowledge of Lucci's struggles it's 'outrageous' for him to be YC1 at this point? C'mon.

I used to think the same as well, that they were YC1 tier.

But seeing how Sabo effectively bought time for his allies to escape versus two admirals (granted they were restricted, but still an impressive feat), I think Sabo is for sure a YC1+
I'd say Sabo and Zoro are in same tier.
If movies mean anything powerscaling wise, that means Lucci is up there as well.

Let's see, we'll get our answer in 1-2 chapters lol. If Lucci doesn't instantly get bodied and end up overwhelming Luffy, then he's YC1 at minimum.

Logically, I tend to agree.

But as @Lobo pointed out, we've seen characters like Law and Kid make insane jumps without all the hassle that Luffy had to face as well.

If plot demands, Lucci can be that strong as well.

We also have to look at the backstory that Lucci got.
Lucci's backstory screams talent. When he was like 10, the age where Luffy was fodder even with his DF, he was taking down countries. Very few (such as Kaido and BM) got backstories where they were absolute monsters even at a very young age.

The dude is built different. So it wouldn't be a shock at all if he indeed turns out to be a challenge to current Luffy.
Oda can even chalk it upto Lucci stagnating for 5+ years cause he did nothing during infiltration phase. But now started training hard after his loss against Luffy.

I believe Lucci is at least YC1+, retconned like Crocodile who I also think Oda is going to make YC1+

@zetsu banned
The "fight" is mostly jsut off screened.

But it's implied that they fought evenly for the entire duration of the boss fight, with both having minor injuries by the end of the fight once they decide to stop.

If Crocodile becomes YC1+, Doffy gonna be admiral level when he breaks out of prison lmao

I don't even think Lucci needs a retcon. Unlike crocodile, he never peaked. Can just explain him away by saying he stagnated due to undercover operation, then trained his ass off

I mean, Crocodile went from losing to gearless Luffy, to being seen as a legit commander level threat in Marinford. (while Luffy was seen as a fly)

All the while he was chained up as well lol

Oda undefeated with the retcons then.

Yeah, Lucci being strong wouldn't be a retcon at all, nor would it be out of the ordinary. Pre-time skip, he was already hyped to be a genius CP9 agent who was the strongest in history. If I had to guess, I'd say that he's likely going to be noted to be the strongest CP0 member in history as well. He has a lot of things going for him that growth of such magnitude would be consistent, not unlike the crews of the Worst Generation. Hell, you can even toss Koby in that pile as well.

As for Doffy, I think he's missed out on the Shichibukai Buffs Oda's handing out. Crocodile was "lucky" and introduced too early and so a retcon was necessary, especially since his loss was before Oda fully explored the power scaling and haki system. Everyone else was held back just enough so that they can have plausible deniability on where their strength was. Doffy was given a full-on fight and all his cards were pretty much revealed.

Im not saying Lucci didnt improve during his 2 years and yeah we have no information on how he became stronger. I have Pre TS Lucci as Rear Admiral, below VA. For him to make such a huge jump when not even Luffy, the main character could, then it is outrageous.
I doubt Lucci went through what Luffy did, trained by a legend and master of Haki, fought a Warlord, fought a YC3 and YC1.
If the plot demands it then so be it, that ruins OP for me. Narratively and common sense says that he is not YC1. Just like how stupid it was for Frieza to become Golden Frieza and compete against SSG Blue Goku.

The Supernovas after 2 years became stronger but none of them were YC3+ level. Crocodile''s Alabasta to ID to Marineford doesnt count as we all know Oda did a retcon on that. I would also be disappointed if he decided to make Crocodile a YC1+ after the timeskip.
But I get it Lucci is a fan favorite so people are hoping he is relevant again in the story and in strength to see a nice rematch of Luffy vs Lucci. Truth be told, if they do a quick sparring match, I won't be surprised if Lucci manages to overcome Luffy quickly. The problem with Luffy is that he doesn't take anything serious in the first place. I don't expect Luffy to quickly go Gear 4th but cmon. Look at him punching Atlas non-chalantly and then being punched by Atlas with force sending him flying a few meters. Yet Lucci defeated Atlas.

Lucci wasn't retconned, he became stronger in these 2 years just like the Supernovas

Crocodile was partially retconned in Marineford, the inconsistency was already there. Everyone meeting at Mary Geoise after Crocodile's defeat implied he was a top-tier in the world, despite being defeated by a 100 million pirate.

I think Crocodile also became stronger after the time-skip... I wouldn't be surprised if his strength matches his bounty, and he can wipe the floor with any Yonko commander

I mean, he can still be YC1 - YC1+, Luffy is just that strong now
I think now it's time for us to move on to Luffy vs Kizaru. I say Luffy will win high diff in this fight and we'll finally see an Admiral suffer a complete defeat post all out fight. This should help level set Yonko vs Admiral power level debate going forward
