I think I made a comment about her to Nana without realising that the girl was standing behind me waiting to take our order. I remember her just casually smiling it off lol.
True enough, that was sometimes playing up in the back of my mind but people there were friendly enough, including this waitress.
In general yes. I assumed a few more people could speak english but I guess that's just my naivete. The country itself really differs from state to state and even cities. It's so picturesque, all my photos don't do it justice.
