Well the thing with that is, because it has been a speculation for so long, everyone had time to come up various theories; so someone was always going to be disappointed.
What the show did with this episode which was clever and a bit of a "fuck you" to the skeptics is having Anderson( worked for the forensic unit) create a Sherlock fan group that continue to believe that he's alive and map out all these theories as to how he could've faked his death. Subsquently when Sherlock explains his feat to Anderson, he shrugs, claiming that he would've done so differently; to which Sherlock points out "everyone's a critic these days", which I think is something of a message to the viewers who would've been disappointed by the explanation. But through the episode there is about 3-4 different scenarios shown by various characters about how he survived. One of which where Sherlock and Moriarty almost kiss
