Chapter 11 is up: http://readms.net/r/robotxlaserbeam/011/4315/1
Kyosuke has another bird name, this time it's the Chinese phoenix.

Hm I wonder about that. I mean, it's obviously not gonna be completely realistic, but at the same time I'm not really expecting anything completely out of this world either (not saying that your ideas were, just in general). Looking at KnB, most of the stuff they did wasn't impossible to pull off in reality per se, but some of them being amplified and the consistency with which they performed those moves turned them into exclusives. I think this series will be similar.I mean, not all of these rely on he shots being perfectly straight, I guess... but if this series go down the "special super technique"-path I hope it can get more inventive than super slices/hooks and whatnot.
Why do you think he should drop out based on his character? Just because he's the skeptic of the group? In 3-4 weeks we'll get the camp, and a challenge for one of the spots. Gen is probably the one who'll be the toughest to convince... wouldn't mind if he dropped out based on character (but he's no.2 atm, so he's probably safe).
Any particular reason for this? Also, what kind of spin?Souta - I'm going to guess he'll have a spin shot.
Definitely. Even if he got destroyed for real, he'd probably learn a bunch of new things playing Kyosuke. But the question is how that match is gonna happen, if at all. Kyosuke does want to play against Robo which probably helps, but the two of them will still need to convince Shintaro and Gen at least to actually make it happen. Maybe Kyosuke could use his own participation as leverage, saying that he/the other regulars on his team won't play if Robo isn't part of the Eiai line-up?If Robo plays Kyousuke it should fast track him.
Not yet anyway, I could see this changing as the series progresses though. Since golf can be played both in a team format and in a 1v1 format, maybe Kyosuke will be Eiai's final opponent in whatever school tournament they'll be in, but Robo could still play Youzan in a regular match play afterwards.Eizan is the main rival, but not the strongest.
Well, the series would hit a bit of a dead-end if he didn't make it in time I suppose, so it will indeed be a big surprise if Robo doesn't clear the condition. He's a fast learner, so it will be a surprise if he doesn't get approvation for the training.
Just as a reader I prefer the other 3. Well it's not really fair to have Shintaro ahead really since we haven't got much of a feel for him. Souta and Rion are much more likable. Obviously Rion is the most logical out atm.Why do you think he should drop out based on his character? Just because he's the skeptic of the group?
A guess pretty much as he was chipping when we first saw him. And it would be something new to Robo like the slice shot. Back spin.Any particular reason for this? Also, what kind of spin?
Yep especially if he has to get his score down to 70 in a couple of weeks, Robo will need some quick lessons. I also wonder just how good Kyosuke is. Is stated to be definitely better, but Youzan is rising and improving, so he might already be as good as Kyosuke.Definitely. Maybe Kyosuke could use his own participation as leverage, saying that he/the other regulars on his team won't play if Robo isn't part of the Eiai line-up?
As they said Youzan is a player developing lately, I can see he getting stronger during the series. About Kyosuke, I can imagine:Not yet anyway, I could see this changing as the series progresses though. Since golf can be played both in a team format and in a 1v1 format, maybe Kyosuke will be Eiai's final opponent in whatever school tournament they'll be in, but Robo could still play Youzan in a regular match play afterwards.
In this context, I wonder why Kyosuke is upset about Youzan losing to Robo despite still being ahead of Youzan? I've got 4-5 possibilities in mind myself, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks too.
Well, the series would hit a bit of a dead-end if he didn't make it in time I suppose, so it will indeed be a big surprise if Robo doesn't clear the condition.
I don't think he's there yet, I feel they made that pretty clear. If we're talking in terms of best score, I think Kyosuke might actually be below 60 as it is.I also wonder just how good Kyosuke is. Is stated to be definitely better, but Youzan is rising and improving, so he might already be as good as Kyosuke.
I have some overlap with your suggestions, but here's what I came up with:But there are more possibilities, what do you guys think?
Yeah, that seems like it'll become a recurrent weakness, I hadn't really thought it that much until now. I pretty much agree with what you're saying, he'll be able to mitigate the problem a bit, but I can't imagine he'll be able to fix it completely any time soon. So it should remain an issue in close matches for quite a while. What I didn't think about was the stamina required. I've never played carrying a golf bag, just use a buggy and it doesn't bother you having to walk it. I guess this is something Robo can work on short term? A couple of weeks of cardio won't make him fit, but maybe it's enough to get him through 12-15 holes well.
Oh yea, can see Kyosuke's best score being below 60 if Souta is a 62 (feels like a clear gap between them). If Youzan gets 60 or 61, then 58 could be Kyosuke's.I don't think he's there yet, I feel they made that pretty clear. If we're talking in terms of best score, I think Kyosuke might actually be below 60 as it is.
I wonder what Kyosuke's special skill is gonna be though. Phoenix would indicate rebirth I suppose? So maybe he's really good when making comebacks. On the other hand, if we suppose he inherits some of Akashi's traits, his analytical abilities should be his strong point.
I like yours and Kaoz ideas, and they would fit nicely. But there are more possibilities, what do you guys think?
This one is quite interesting, it would give some depth to Kyosuke's character if he is jealous. Sports manga usually have characters with good motivations, but rarely bring bad shades of human emotions into the characters.
- The two haven't actually played against each other yet. But Youzan is celebrated by the media, taking away from Kyosuke's fame and Kyosuke is jealous because of that or something.
Good theory, Kyosuke does look like a guy that love challenges and fair matches, no wonder he would be so irritated if he developed some sort of rivalry with Youzan. But as Youzan is a rising start, we can expect an evolution of his skills during the manga.I'll try for a different one - maybe Kyosuke wants to beat Youzan once he's fully matured as this would be a great challenge. If Kyosuke has dominated everyone, and sees and up and comer like Youzan, perhaps he wants to beat Youzan as his peak. Losing to Robo is 'unforgivable' if this means Youzan's progress has not been as fast as Kyosuke hoped.
Oh I didn't notice that. Maybe she can help Gen be a little easier on Robo too (Rion said Shintaro would be a bigger problem than Gen this chapter, which surprised me).About the new chapter (12th), did you notice that the manager from golf club has the same surname as Gen? (She's Kuroda too), I wonder if it's just a coincidence or if she is a relative of him. And I'm quite curious about Robot's father now, I'll take a guess that he's a former player that stopped for some sort of family issue or something like this.
Really depends on Youzan's actual role I think. He could get his own arc if he and Robo are supposed to be co-protagonists, but it's also possible - and actually more likely in my opinion - that he won't get any major focus for a fair amount of time. Maybe we'll see him making the news a few times. Maybe other players will continue to talk about him. Maybe we'll see a bit of his team during a school tournament. But I think more likely than not, Youzan won't make the next big step until Robo is a lot closer to his current level. When would be a good time for the manga to focus on Youzan a little more again? It seems like Robo getting down to a 70 is the current arc (a training arc), maybe when Robo becomes a regular it switches to Youzan for a bit?
It's difficult to say, but one week seems likely to me too. Maybe two, but then that would mean we skipped his first practice session with Rion (not saying this couldn't have happened, it's just something to note). I also wonder how meaningful being the fittest of the first years is in the bigger picture though. Chances are the second and third years will still have more stamina than that I reckon.Robo made some real progress with his stamina. Seems like a lot of training for golf. How much time went past? He fainted 3 or 4 times, so this happened in one week?
That did catch my eye, yeah. I don't think there's a realistic chance they aren't related. There are so many potential names to choose from, so them sharing one most definitely indicates they're siblings. I'm not sure how that's going to come into play though. What Brandish suggested is definitely a possibility, but maybe she also exists to add more to Gen's character than necessarily helping Robo to get on the team.About the new chapter (12th), did you notice that the manager from golf club has the same surname as Gen? (She's Kuroda too), I wonder if it's just a coincidence or if she is a relative of him.
Yeah, that was a bit unexpected. If I had to guess, I think it's possible that Gen and Shintaro oppose Robo on different levels and that this might be the reason though. Gen's main reason for not wanting to let Robo join is that it's against the rules, so now that they've established a new rule that lets Robo join as long as he clears the conditions, it should be more in line with Gen's way of doing things again.Maybe she can help Gen be a little easier on Robo too (Rion said Shintaro would be a bigger problem than Gen this chapter, which surprised me).
Mostly quoting this to emphasize how much I agree with it. I think it'd be a lot nicer if he was just really into golf and knows a lot about it rather than being a super great player himself. But I'd really like to see Robo's dad be a casual fan to put more emphasis on Robo just being "Robo" to get where he is.
Did you maybe hear miles instead of kms? Because that would fit pretty well. I also read that estimates have gone up in the past, so that could also be a cause. And it's not like I did extensive research here, so maybe you just got the correct number and I didn't. Either way though, doing some running on a regular basis certainly seems recommended and necessary.Edit: Oh, maybe I was wrong about the 6 km if Kaoz found those numbers after searching. I was just going on what I remembered reading/hearing.
