Enjoyed the Emperor a lot this chapter.
Needless to say, I'm 100% with you there once again. Having a powerful character with this kind of personality, or anything close to it, is a rarity in sports series as far as I know. It's just nice to have someone unconventional like this alongside a more proper rival like Youzan.
Something I do wonder if this thrill seeking will be Kyosuke's downfall at some point. I could imagine him getting beaten by someone weaker if they're able to manipulate his state of mind to their advantage.
Also quite liked the page with the Regulars and their opponents. Gin was my favourite of mine there.
Eh I have mixed feelings about the remaining match-ups to be honest. It seems like at least Shintaro and Gen will face opponents very similar to themselves (in terms of personality) which just doesn't really appeal to me. Maybe if their playstyles are completely different it won't be so bad, but if those are similar too, then that's a part I'm not really looking forward to. Rion's opponent might have this issue as well, even if it's less obvious right now; he just reminds me of Rion when he got fired up back when teamed up with Robo.
But yeah, I'd prefer it if we had some more variety here.
From what we've seen of Kyosuke, how do you think he'll crush Robo? I can see him opening up a gap too, like you said; and then take the foot off the gas when he thinks he's done enough (maybe hole 15).
Well, if this shot is any indication, I guess he'll just start doing stuff Robo shouldn't even be able to consider (and if Robo does, he'll just self-destruct). I won't be surprised if his tee shot on the first hole wasn't the best he could do there either. While the course was perfect, I could see him being able to hit a fair bit farther than that. Not as far as Youzan, but still farther than what Robo's capable of.
Another important point will be pressure, as Asia Run pointed out. Kyosuke was being pressured and still held par on every hole, but I'm not sure Robo will be able to do the same. If that excitement he felt at the beginning turns into fear he'll be in a lot of trouble.
From what they told, Kyosuke is not the type that would be easily scared, but there's room for posibilities since Robo is the one that might be feeling cornered now and it can help him improving faster. But i agree with you, not sure if he's experienced enough to scare Kyosuke yet.
Yeah, there's pretty much two possibilities here:
- Robo will be able to use this opportunity to improve by a lot really quickly. He'll get destroyed for most of the rest of the match (doubt Kyosuke is gonna go easy on him until and unless Robo's lost his fighting spirit), but maybe start getting closer to Kyosuke's level again during the last third of the match and maybe he'll tie or even win the last hole or something.
- Robo will self-destruct as mentioned above and Kyosuke will lose interest in him as a result.
With the camp coming up, (1) seems a lot more likely to me though. We also need to consider that, if this is a 1-in-universe-year series, Robo will need to be able to beat Kyosuke in a few months from now, so he'll have to show some signs of closing the giant gap between them.
