Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

there is one human in particular I am suspicious about and its Eren's dad... I mean his going into town just before the attack and coming out rather unscathed really makes me suspicious.
but when he was going to town, he said "when I get back… there’s that room in the basement, which I’ve always kept secret. I’ll show it to you." which means, to me, he had been unaware that an attack was coming.
now, what I'm suspicios about is that room he was talking about. I think at some point Eren will remember this moment and go back to the site, to investigate the ruins of their house...

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Just started reading this manga, and I fell in love with it after just one chapter. 10 chapters later my love for this manga is already huge! The story is really awesome, the art is good (many complain about the art, but I think it's nice), the characters are well made and the feeling you get from reading it is trembling.

Volume #3 is out!:p

So Eren wasn't controlling a Titan, he was the Titan O_O
And it looks like the transformation is triggered by pain, anyway i liked how fast Eren was able to understand his situation and use his power.

His transformation reminds me of Bruce Banner/Hulk, turning into a monster with no rational control but some of his memories and emotions are still there dictating the way he acts: in the first and second time his desire to kill the Titans and to protect Mikasa and Armin gave him a rudimentar control over the monster.
But let's hope he learn how to control the Titan consciously in the next volume.

By the way, Mikasa is still kicking asses, dozens of soldiers but no one dare to attack Eren with she at his side :wahaha:

ps: Everyone already suspected Grisha was the responsible for what happened to Eren but i guess the questions now are: Why he did that to his own son and how he did that

at last! :yay
i think, knowing his son's personality he must have assumed that one day Eren would end up in the stomach of a titan and die anyway. he just wanted to give him a chance to survive... no idea how he did that...
what about the titans, are all the titans were-humans? and could there be another place or dimention where humans live and are transformed to titans?

What do you mean by name?

I think he assumed Eren was brave/reckless enough to actually use the power, and maybe even tame it. I am guessing that all Titans are like Eren, manufactured, humans given a serum. Most aren't strong enough to overcome the urge to kill, Grisha must assume something is different about his son. There is also the catch that he needs something to make his way through Titan territory, and get back to the basement. Whatever is in the basement will give humanity some hopef of stopping who, or what, is behind the Titans. What Commander Pixis said to Eren was a huge clue, humanity was divided but a common enemy, one that was not human, could unite humanity. Titans were manufactured, to bring humanity together. The real enemy is whoever created them. Gisha is among them, there isn't any doubt.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I agree with your theory, Kaiten. Hopefully, if Grisha and whoever he's working with created the titans, they also know how to stop them. The answer may not be in the basement, but that should be the first step. But first, Eren needs to be able to control his "powers" :s

What's the name of the volumes 1,2 and 3?
They're not titled. Not all mangaka title the tankoubon, and it seems Isayama-sensei is one of those who don't. I couldn't find anything resembling a title on the volume covers :/

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I have a feeling whoever is responsible for the Titans comes from outside the walls. I assume they will learn how the Titans were created when they reach the basement, but only find clues to who, where, and why.

I wonder if Eren will ever fully control his powers. Being able to turn into a Titan at will may be more overpowered than suits Shingeki. Whatever happens, I bet he pays a pretty horrible price every time he transforms. And the more he does it, the steeper the price.

I agree with you about the responsible person coming from outside the walls, and most certainly right now living outside the walls, somewhere.

If Eren could turn titan whenever he wants, that would indeed be too overpowered and just too cliched. For the amount of popularity SnK has right now, I would like for that little twist that sets it a cut above the rest, and I think that would come if there was a price to pay for each time he goes titan.

Well, as far as "price" goes, each use of Titan power does seem to take a toll on Eren's health and general well-being. Armin did point out his nosebleeds and overall sickly countenance after the first couple of transformations.
IMO, the whole Titan thing will be more of a last resort/strategic advantage to be used sparingly than something that allows him to routinely and singlehandedly mop the floor with hordes of monsters. The manga would become kinda pointless otherwise.

If I had to guess, every Titan was initially human, each given the same serum as Eren. If I recall correctly, Eren's father had been administrating a vaccine for an unnamed plague. That vaccine could be the serum. Considering where Eren's body is when he becomes a Titan, it would explain the Titans week spot.

If he could do it at will, Shinegki would turn into the Incredible Hulk :p

I think you're right, it will be a last resort but Eren may try spamming it early on with horrible results. We can already see that it's not completely viable to build a strategy around Titan transformation.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I'm in the opposite. I don't have any proof, but I think the one responsible is inside the walls. Way inside the wall, even. Because I think the king is the most suspicious.
Eren can transform at will, as he already know how to do it (even though he don't know why he know). The only problem is, like when he attacked Mikasa, he's not always at full control of the giant.
And at last a female giant appeared! The one with intelligence even! I guess Elvin succeed on putting the bait. Now how will Armin get through of this. The giant probably will ignore him if he didn't disturb her, but how will Armin inform the others about the giant?
Can't wait to see how they will fight her.
And it's verified that Marco died without his equipment. So someone did steal it and might be using it to kill Sony and Bean.

That makes sense, and would be a better twist. There has to be someone with a share of responsibility outside of the walls, based wherever the titans are coming from. But having conspirators within the walls, also makes sense. It would hardly be surprising, and make a lot more sense, if learning the truth about the Titans leads to the highest corridors of power. Eren's father was definitely part of the conspiracy, and he lived within the walls.

Glad you like it! Out of curiosity, what did you like about the series? Any favorite scenes or characters? Any predictions?

My favorite character is Mikasa, a pretty easy answer because she has so much more screen time than the others. So far, my favorite part was when she made her "motivational" speech at the beginning of volume 2:

Mikasa's my favorite too. She's just so kickass! I also liked how she was able to keep her cool when she thought Eren was dead, didn't start blaming everyone or going hysteric. Her strength in choosing to live on, to honor his memory, her courage and ability to galvanize others to her cause is admirable. The fact that she's female, too, is a plus point. I love seeing kickass female heroines :) partially because I'm a girl, I guess, and because most shounen series tend to stereotype girls as needing to be saved or otherwise inferior to men, whereas Mikasa is the opposite.

Yeah Mikasa is easily a popular choice because, as saladesu said, she's just so kickass and cool. Something I was surprised to see. Not too many of them manga that have a girl like her as the number one. Given she's not even made to look unbelievably beautiful or with a nice body or long hair!

I think their other friend (the wimpy kid, forgot his name) had started to redeem himself by the end of the 3rd volume and found himself a niche- found his role in life which was to be "the smart one". In time they'll be a most kick-ass team.

That's what I like about Mikasa too: most action manga make the female lead a damsel in distress, and rarely place any major emphasis on them. Mikasa is tough as hell and has had the most screen time so far.

Armin is the wimpy friend. I do like him, but you are right, he did not start developing as a character until volume three. I like the character arc, when surrounded by soldiers, a smart, weak kid might need a little longer to find his niche. Especially when everyones life is in danger.

I am looking forward to seeing more of Eren. Due to circumstances, he did not get much development in volume two. Now that his powers are known, I want to see what direction his character takes. I am assuming their will be more to him than the typical hot headed shounen hero.

I'm not sure she really kept her cool. She kept her outward composure, but her speech to the other rookies and reckless, solo assault on the titans were definitely symptoms of a breakdown. She was prepared to die, until the titan (which turned out to be Eren) started attacking it's fellows, she had lost the will to live. It wouldn't be in character if she needed to be saved, or went to cry in a corner upon hearing Eren died.

It sounds weird but I was convinced that Mikasa would die. I know it's gone slightly cliche now, but the artwork is a good mix of Tabata Yoshiaki (Wolf Guy), Mori Kouji (Holyland) and Hayashida Q (Dorohedoro). Anyway, my favourite character is a mystery to me right now, we're far too early in the storyline.

I clearly need to re-read the manga :sweat I forgot those details! :shakefist Still, despite all that, she's still kickass and I love her.

I was starting to like Armin a lot too. I'm sure that from here on out he will only continue to be developed and become even more likable. I'd like to see even more development for Eren as well.
