I watched all the movies(chronologically, I didn't start with the original trilogy) and completed The Force Awakens today and I wanted to ask, where do I go from there? Even though I watched all of this I feel like I know almost nothing about the series, the universe is so vast.

How come there is still Sith even though Anakin proved to be Chosen One? Or do Kylo and Snoke not qualify as Sith for some reason? I don't remember them being called like that in the movie.

I liked the movie but don't you think there were several elements of the previous one who have been reused?(An important file entrusted to a robot where said robot finds the hero, the main villain being related to one of the mains of a previous trilogy, destruction of another super weapon, how are they always able to create these kind fo weapons of mass destruction? , The hero finding a legendary Jedi on an isolated planet)

Finally, Rey is totally Luke's daughter, right?

There was the Expanded Universe novels and comics, but they're being regarded as non-canon after the Disney acquisition. Some of that stuff might be adapted/adopted as being legit, but no one can know for sure yet.

The whole Snoke and Kylo thing is very reminiscent of "rule of 2" Sith, but we also know that the Knights of Ren exist as well. So they are darkside force users and serve the same purpose in the story as the Sith, but I don't think we can say they are actually Sith.

Yes, it was a retread of A New Hope in a lot of ways. But nothing necessarily wrong with that as well as it's done well. It's a sequel, but it's also being treated as a reboot.

Finally, Rey is totally Luke's daughter, right?
Hints point towards that, yeah.

Well, if you want the stuff that remains cannon you'd have to watch the star wars animated stuff. First the clone wars show which features events between episodes 2 and 3 and then the star wars rebels stuff which features events between episodes 3 and 4 though they rarely if at all focus on movie's main characters. To be more specific, the clone wars focuses on anakin, obi wan and anakin's jedi apprentice while rebels focuses on an entirely new cast.

After that there would be the star wars novels of the movies. I haven't read them but I did google if there was any interesting stuff in there and there are indeed details which they did not feature in the movies and help explain some events.

Sith are a specific order or dark side users with their own teachings and knowledge. Not any dark side user is a sith in that regard. Given that palpatine and vader died in return of the jedi, it is safe to say that sith are no more. At least the sith dynasty sidious belonged to is long gone unless he had a secret apprentice that took over him or something.

Other possibilities include rey being obi wan's grandaughter. Because of her british accent.

I'll just leave this here.

This is probably the only trailer I'll watch for this film. I know it's a teaser, but there's quite enough to get me psyched and I don't want the whole film given away.

I mean, there's no "Chewey, we're home"-level of psych-moment, but hey. It's Star Wars.

I think it it feels right to see Luke distance himself from the Jedi...in a way. After the events that happened leading to TFA and the madness his father was driven to (I assume he knows his father's backstory somehow though) he probably recognizes that the traditional Jedi philosophy might not be compatible with the modern age if the Order is ever to survive and thrive as it one had.

Real balance is with the darkness and the light. Cutting oneself off from one or the other, or emotions, will only create more issues than it will fix. If Jedi weren't taught that emotions like love were forbidden and wrong and a gateway to the dark side of the Force, would it still be? At least in the same way that it is now? If Anakin, for example, had been taught that his feelings were not "wrong" and instead taught to deal with them healthily, would he have turned so easily to a side that would let him love and protect the people he loved? I would like to think "no", at least not so easily swayed by the realization of more loss.

The Jedi need to learn real balance and I hope that this "anti-Jedi" message Luke now has is not truly "there should be no Jedi" but "the old Jedi are gone" kind of sentiment.

So what do you guys think of Ron Howard stepping in as director of the Han Solo film after Lord and Miller jumped ship? Apparently the reason for their quitting was creative differences (with the producers/film company); rumors say they were going "too much down the comedy route". I really like Lord and Miller's previous works and think they're great with comedy, but something tells me Howard might be the better choice for a film like this.. sure, the "stand-alones" seem to get a free pass when it comes to changing up the overall feel of the film (going by Rogue One) but I still think making a full-on comedy would be a bit too much of a stretch from what the Star Wars films should be.

Only thing that worries me is that they were already pretty far into making the film, and switching director mid-shoot rarely bodes well for the end result..

If it was riddled with humor like the latest Marvel movies, I think it was a wise move they are being replaced. I do not want Star Wars to turn into a mindless, stupid comedy. I'm not sure about Ron Howard though. Star Wars doesn't necessarily need a hard change, it just needs a fresher look on it. It doesn't have to follow the shallow standards of today's films to succeed in catching today's people.

I don't think it's a bad choice, just as long as it isn't even close to that DaVinci Code nonsense or what The Dark Tower movie seems to be.

In all honesty, the idea of a Han Solo origin story isn't terribly interesting to me, but the people attached to it thus far make it look somewhat promising.

I don't have strong feelings about Lord and Miller getting replaced.

It's sounds like they weren't making the movie they were hired to make so canning them is almost certainly the right call. By all accounts they were supposed to make an action adventure movie and they tried to turn it into a pure comedy. Your can't do that. So they had to go.

Ron Howard is a steady hand to bring in and try and salvage it. And can certainly at least get it closer to the type of movie it was supposed to be. How good a movie he can actually produce in that situation. I'm not at all sure about that.

-------------------------------------------

My personal conclusion about the whole thing is that Star Wars need to stop green lighting prequels of any kind because they are cursed. Period. Full Stop. End of story.

Sure, Rogue One wasn't bad. But it went through similar, though less severe, stuff. Besides if they want to grow the story they should work from the close to the current point in the timeline. Not unloading all the Star Wars fan fiction writers have built up over the years. If they want to do that let them release novels and if the Novels are good then you make a movie.

The only part of the teaser that peaked my interest was what Luke said at the end. The rest looks like the same old star wars I know and love. I'll still be first in line to see it though.

Please use the term "Legends" when referring to the now non-canon pre-Disney EU. There is also a current Disney canon EU with a plethora of novels and comics, The Clone Wars (2008) and Rebels cartoons, officially published short stories.

Canon EU novels:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_canon_books

Canon EU comics:

^ Take note ^
@Demonspeed

Note:
All Star Wars novels, comics, cartoons, even video games released May 2014 onward are part of the Disney canon.

The whole Snoke and Kylo thing is very reminiscent of "rule of 2" Sith, but we also know that the Knights of Ren exist as well. So they are darkside force users and serve the same purpose in the story as the Sith, but I don't think we can say they are actually Sith.
Pablo Hidalgo has clarified that Snoke and Kylo Ren are not Sith but something completely different.

After that there would be the star wars novels of the movies. I haven't read them but I did google if there was any interesting stuff in there and there are indeed details which they did not feature in the movies and help explain some events.
The movie novelizations which released after May 2014 are considered canon. And yes, they released new novelizations of all the old movies. Refer the "Timeline of canon books" I linked above. The old movie novelizations now fall under Legends.

Other possibilities include rey being obi wan's grandaughter. Because of her british accent.
The accent is pretty weak evidence of her being a Kenobi -.-'
That accent is pretty common in the Core Worlds and Mid Rim territories.

Pretty sure he just wants to end the classical Jedi of the Republic Golden Age and bring back the original Jedi order which followed the teachings of the Whills and aimed for true balance of light and dark (instead of just shutting one aspect away like some dogmatic deluded zealot).

I still think he means the current idea of the Jedi and if not, I'll be pretty upset if they make it actually happen. It isn't like deciding the Jedi can't exist is going to stop people from harnessing the Force and using it however they please. Luke needs to stop being a giant baby. That's what turned his papa to the dark side.

I don't think he's being a baby. I just think he's disillusioned with the Jedi and wants something different. And of course there is the issue of him likely having taken a Barash Vow.

I was mostly just joking around, though I do think he's being a bit dramatic.

(never heard of this Barash Vow before but reading up on it, I think you're right.)

Okay. But Mark Hamill's take on Luke of course has to be better than whatever bland uninspired crap Abrams and Johnson had in store for him. They supposedly had a big fight and agreed to many changes Hamill himself supervised.

It's detailed in the latest issues of the canon Vader comic. You really should check it out. Be it Legends or Disney continuity, the Vader comics have always been fantastic.

What did you guys think to The Last Jedi trailer?

If you haven't seen it you might not want to, the director said there's some spoiler-ish stuff in it. For this reason I'll put the trailer in spoils tags.

Spoiler-ish stuff? Hah! The Star Wars trailers are known for their misdirection.
