I don't see the problem with rey specifically turning to the dark side in itself. Knowing star wars it might not even be a real thing. But a vision or some other dumb thing they will try to pass for a passable plot twist. Rey momentarily turning to the dark side does further remind me of some legend's storylines were luke apparently also turned to the dark side ( I just read the wiki entries though). I still don't think any of this plays all too well with all the subverting TLJ did. In any case, if the movie is anything like the trailers suggest it just doesn't seem like this trilogy will have succeeded in telling anything like a coherent story.

That's sort of perpetuating the problem though. Just sitting back, smiling and being happy with anything as long as it makes your neurons fire for a moment.

And yeah, you know that most of us will watch it anyway. No matter how this mess of a trilogy inevitably stumbles to its end, I still want closure. Doesn't mean I can't drill it full of holes though.

After all, where would be the fun in being content?

Is it even a problem though? Assuming that is what I don't get.

Like for all we know Rey could turn into the new Darth Vader or something crazy. Or maybe it will be built off the idea that Luke was right about her in the Last Jedi. Or maybe she'll turn out to like a clone of a Sith Lord that's a whole different person. Or maybe she'll be traveling to an alternate universe and meeting her evil self. Or maybe it's just a silly disguise. There are a lot of things it could be and we don't know which it is, much less if it's actually any good.

I just think it's kind of silly to form strong opinions about something before we have any knowledge of it. We know so little about what this means.

I guess, I just think people should be upset when there is a reason to be upset. And there isn't any reason to be upset yet. It's like people are upset that there is something they could possibly get upset about later. Which is insane.

I think it's more about some people's expectations. TFA was a bit of a copycat, but still well-made. I don't really blame people for being pessimistic now.

The idea of flipping Rey into Sith would be pretty great.

They need to do something with Rey to get the Mary Sue stink off her.

And that is why they should've made her "go" with Kylo at the end of The Last Jedi (in exchange for sparing everyone else's lives or something), now THAT would've been a twist that would've left everyone confuzzled and bamboozled for 2 straight years.

Whether it's a "vision", dream, or something that actually happens for real, it adds absolutely nothing to the story as of now. As a matter of fact, it might turn out to be something similar to what Luke went through, when he fought Vader and then saw his own face inside the mask.

I mean, we already know (seen in the trailer) that she's going to face off against Kylo - even though she already beat him twice and there's no real stakes in this fight, but whatever - and we already know that everything is going to end well for the good guys in the end because it's the last movie and supposedly they aren't going to bring up any of these characters ever again.

I really don't see this not being a shit-show, I mean they're gonna bring in Palpatine to make it seem like a grand plan or something because they just didn't have any clue what to do with this trilogy, and that's just sad.

What could they possibly do with 2h30mins of film...? We already know how it's going to end, bad guys will lose, everything up until that point will more than likely just be padding.


I don't know about you guys, but I saw Episodes II and III in theaters, and I've never been one of those that "hated" the prequels. The original trilogy will always be the best, of course, but holy shit does this new "trilogy" make me appreciate episodes I/II/III so much more.

It's to say that this Rey thing is bad when we don't know what the thing actually is yet that I object to. I totally expect the movie to be bad and I think everyone probably should expect that (again just look at whose writing this thing). But jumping all over any specific element seems a little crazy to me. It's like critiquing artwork in a pitch black room. We have no idea what this Rey stuff even means. Is it bad? Based on the people behind it.. probably. But we haven't actually seen anything of substance yet.

Don't get me wrong I think the Rise of Skywalker is not going to be a good movie; again just look at who's writing it. And when it comes to things that should and shouldn't have been done in The Last Jedi. That's a long list. Encompassing almost the entire movie.

I'll say this for The Last Jedi though. It does make the Rise of Skywalker interesting because it is such a poor setup for the next movie that even a great writer would have a hell of time righting this particular ship, And this movie is not being written by people who are known to be great writers. So who knows what's going to happen?

When I first heard of the new trilogy, I pictured an epic battle and the invasion of the Yuuzhan Vhong. The only thing that could remotely salvage this movie is the rumored return of Thrawn. I fucking love Thrawn.

Add to that, it would kinda spoil the mystery of what happened to ezra, which I assume disney still wants to milk. Add to that, ezra is an actual jedi even if he is missing. His story coming in contact with rey's like that even through thrawn is a can of worms disney does not want nor need. The movies don't even have the balls to acknowledge ahsoka...

Watched the first episode of "The Mandalorian" today. Initial impression. It's good. Not super impressive. But it seems like a competently done western.

Just want to say something, here, Eigengrau. You mention that you wouldn't really care about characters like Thrawn being added. But you are very likely wrong, in a general sense regarding filthy casuals, or at least those interested enough in Star Wars to post on non-star wars anime boards.

It's because Thrawn is a great character. And when we who desire to see him on the big screen say he should be "added", we really mean "introduced." You would care about him, hopefully, not because of the novels, but because he's an excellent character in the story being introduced. Like having never been introduced to the Emperor before and assuming the character is not important and shouldn't be because he might have been mentioned in a novel prior to Empire Strikes Back. That's fine, but I'm hope I'm being more clear than I feel like. We feel Thrawn is a very worthy addition to the story. He slips perfectly into a unique role not filled properly by any character in Star Wars movies right now. And he is charismatic enough to draw enough fans and at least entertain the casual crowd. Who knows how popular he could get with exposure.

For the record, Heir to the Empire, which is the novel many of us wanted to see adapted (in at least some kind of general form regarding its main antagonist and theme) got the No.1 Bestseller list in the New York Times fiction bracket. For good reason. Here's the link


Not saying it'd have been better recieved than TFA or even that Grand Admiral Thrawn would have been, but I'm just arguing that if he had been introduced straight up as a new character to develop and grow on screen, and not someone you're "supposed to know" in a cameo, but given relevance and purpose like, say, Holdo or Hux (I hate speaking their names with him, it hurts brain cells), the reception for him would have some success. Novels and characters like Heir to the Empire got their position and reputation for a reason. It's just an absolute mystery to me why Disney did not choose to tap into the gold mine that this trilogy represented.

I don't know. Thrawn to me is someone who won't have the impact you are expecting unless there is like an entire movie about him in order to establish the character for the movie going audience.

Which is not to say that's a bad idea. Good stories and good characters are really what Star Wars needs. The problem is that I think right now the last place Star Wars should be going is going back in time for really any reason. They've already overplayed that hand.

What they need is for this third movie to get the universe to a place where they can bring in new more talented writers and have them tell new stories. Without the desperate clinging to the nostalgia factor of older characters. In a perfect world Rise of Skywalker will fix the Star Wars universe so that those stories can become a thing again.

Clearly the villain of the saga is meant to be kylo. Snoke was kinda interesting until they wasted him with a stupid death that seems almost like a mistake a rookie would laugh at. As for thrawn... I know him from rebels but as I understand him he is a major villain within the series. While he could be inserted into a movie... it'd be quite hard to do him justice. Add to that, his role would likely be redundant with hux being around. Unless you want multiple tiers of first order high command to be relevant during a movie... Which is technically doable but considering how the last movie butchered characters I wouldn't trust them to handle this competently or even.... well.

Any preestablished character as complex as Thrawn does. A movie version would just turn him into "The Clever Guy" out of neccesity. Is that something you'd want? For Darth Vader it kind of worked because he was originally built as a standalone "Dark Knight" type character in a new hope. Then they built him retroactively from there.

My larger point though was that I think Star Wars needs to get away from the idea that everything needs to tie into preexisting events or characters. As that is something that I think is giving increasingly poor returns. They'd be better off just getting a good writer in there to build his/her own story without needing to work in the preexisting stuff.

Not enough people have seen Rebels to care about Thrawn's role there. It would be simple to have put him in at the beginning of a trilogy. I'm by far not saying he should be in IX. That would be useless at this point, as just about everything else would be, to make it half-way decent.

At this point I just want to see Jar Jar be revealed as the galaxy's Morgoth and that he likes being a ridiculous gungan villiage fool to mess with people. I could then at least laugh at the internet reaction for the next ten years. It's better than having Hux as a character with Kylo, who basically is about as threatening as Zuko.

Ok, saw the leaks because I had no expectations of episode 9 other than it being trashed. And.... Yeah, the leaks are AWFUL. From this point onward I will simply not consider episodes 7 through 9 to be canon to the story. Episode 6 ended and luke went on to successfully start a new jedi order. The end.
