Which leaks are we talking about? Recent ones?

As of now I am pretty sure they would be the most recent ones. They popped up in reddit but by now there are a bunch of articles about them...

MORE!? Are you masochist?
Yes. And also I feel like I shouldn't judge something until I actually see it. Hearsay is not always indicative of the viewing experience. Not to mention I have a lot of questions about what I just read. Fundamental writing questions.

Worst case it would be like a murder mystery to me at that point. Who killed Star Wars? And how did they do it?

Which leaks are we talking about? Recent ones?
There are point by point descriptions of the end of the movie out there now supposedly from early screenings. And, if they are true, well.. yikes. Suffice it to say, it's rough.

I think I found it.

Listen, I'm not a fan of TLJ or anything but this thing reads like it's completely fake to me. The fact that it comes from 4chan doesn't give me much confidence in it being real.

I also question it. Just because there are two points in there that are objectively bad writing. Like someone who writes those things doesn't know some basic fundamentals of creative writing. So I have a hard time believing it could get through whatever editorial process a movie of this scale should have.

Then again I think back to Batman VS Superman and I'm like...maybe it could happen.

Well, I guess the rumors about them bringing Lucas in to "save" the movie due to how bad the initial cut was received by test audiences might give a bit of credence to the plot being this terrible, but I just refuse to believe JJ Abrams would sign off on some of the things in these leaks. It's beyond stupid.

This is a series that took luke skywalker and made him a loser who spent a decade in an island waiting to die. To the point where him hearing his sister was in danger only resulted in him shrugging and pretty much pointing out that it doesn't matter because of the circle of life or something. Add to that, the "leak" is actually fairly consistent with the trailer. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the leak is fake and the reality is worst.

I agree but remember that Abrams has never been a known to be a good screenwriter. He's a solid director. And I don't know what they were thinking with Chris Terrio who is coming off of two really bad movies in BVS and Dawn of Justice. So I don't really have a hard time believing they could write an abomination of a movie. What I have trouble believing is that they could sell other people on ideas like we've seen described.

Like a draft of this movie had to have passed over the desks of a lot of people who know how storytelling works and where expectations are at. Especially after what happened with the Last Jedi. If someone needs a test audience to tell them some of this is a bad idea. That's not like an individual mistake that would be systemic incompetence. And find it really hard to believe that in light of the recent troubles Disney has had with the brand they'd make these kind of mistakes... again.

Look at it another way: They have to write a continuation to The Last Jedi. To begin with there is not a lot to work with considering the sad/tragic deaths luke and snoke went through. And even the resistance was left in shambles even if it somehow by the end it had been revived from the stuff that happened minutes earlier.

Well, there's a difference between being a good screenwriter or not, and putting up with the nonsense the leak describes.

Yeah some of the rumors suggested there were 3 different versions of the film made. The initial cut, a cut based on Bob Iger's mandates, and a cut that had George Lucas' input. And the testing reaction considered the initial cut the worst and Lucas' cut the best. Not sure how realistic that any of that happened though.

So... early reviews suggest the last jedi is a decent movie (well, some say its good, others say its not good so I am kinda averaging those out) and it feels like an apology for "The last Jedi". I suppose opinion will be divided among those who liked and those who disliked the last jedi. I appreciate the apology but that doesn't change that luke was made to and died a bitch in the last jedi for literally no reason though.

Hmm. Sounds interesting at least. From Chris Terrio I'll call interesting a "win". Though I just don't trust anything when it comes to critic reviews of Star Wars properties at this point. There is a certain subset that just want to love everything no matter what.

By this time tomorrow I will already have seen the film.
When is everyone else (here) going to see it?

Don't have any expectactions whatsoever, as I mentioned earlier this year in this thread (I think?) the only reason I'm throwing money away/seeing the film as soon as possible is so I don't get spoiled.

I'm pretty sure I'll feel the exact same way as I did throughout The Last Jedi:

- entertained throughout the film (but still going "uhh wut what was that?" and taking mental notes of bad things);
- but then get angrier and disappointed the more I think about it once it's all said and done.

I mean it's embarassing to even call this a trilogy, which was beyond fucked after the previous film, so yeah, hard to expect anything good to come from it, except maybe memes, I guess.

Oh no. A reviewer that tends to have the same reactions to movies I do reviewed it.

I may give it few weeks before I go to see it.

The public sentiment I've seen from a lot of supporters of The Last Jedi is that they're pissed off with Abrams and some cast members appearing to throw Rian Johnson under the bus in some interviews. So it'll be funny to see if sentiment swings back in the other direction, with these people unironically thinking that TLJ was the best Star Wars movie they had ever seen to not thinking much of this one because it might be seen as Abrams and Disney trying to save face in some way. They seem to love reducing the camp that disliked TLJ to some angry, vocal minority... which... regardless of how you feel about TLJ yourself, is just intellectually dishonest.

I personally told myself that I wasn't going to consider seeing it in theaters unless it had really good reviews.

Is that from that interview with hammil where he said the Luke in TLJ didn't feel like his luke? Or more recent ones? I can't remember ridley or the other saying anything about this.

It is absolutely dishonest to say only a small vocal minority dislike TLJ... Unfortunately the politics around this and trolls ruined this for everyone. Regardless of how much you like TLJ there are some bits which are simply asinine if you think about them even a little bit. Like the hacker who was conveniently imprisoned. Or luke's cool "everything you just said is wrong" line at kylo. As in, the resistance was ripped to shreds at least partially because flin or whatever his name was recklessly lead half the fleet to its death for the lolz and then the bulk of what was left of it was shreded on the ice planet. Suggesting that after that the resistance, which has to start from scratch, is revived (or at least framing it like that) is absurd. Of course in the next movie my guess will be that the resistance will have a shiny new fleet due to luke becoming some sort of resistance meme. In spite of the fact that the resistance and luke failed rather catastrophically during the movie...

I just want good movies. That's all I want. And I feel like that's what most fans want.

We don't want to hate things. We don't want to be negative. We just want to be able to go to a star wars movie and not be annoyed. I don't need it to be the greatest movie ever to exist either. I just need it to not make me face palm when i think about it. That can't be too much to ask can it?
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

I'd honeslty be in line for this movie anyway if I didn't see it's run-time was 2 hours and 22 minutes. For the love of god why?!! I can enjoy a bad 90 minute movie. What I can't do is going through a BvS situation again where I hate a movie and am stuck there for 3 hours.

No it was an interview and I think Boyega said something to the effect that working with Abrams again made it feel like they were back on the right track or something. I think he's also quite openly said he didn't like some of the choices made in TLJ.

Ohhh, yeah, I remember reading something about that. I didn't really follow that story so I didn't even realize he got backslash for it. I remember reading something about ridley recently and how she loved working with abrams, I suppose that could have fallen in the same line. Boyega got the weirdest story arc in TLJ so I could see him not being quite happy about it.

It's like Jahn's review said - Finn is the most unique character in the series, a Stormtrooper who defects. In a sea of familiarity, he's the character with the most potential for them to tread new ground with (when it comes to the feature films, at least), and it seems they basically did nothing with his character arc in the end. So if I was him I'd probably be a bit annoyed with the apparent turmoil these films have been through in the planning stages. It's really not that hard to fuck these films up...
