Thanks for the word. I suggest regarding Kinnikuman to try and read what we do have done so far (as in all of Team Kinniku alongside the old scans by Toriyama World) so you can get a great BG on the world. It's not quite done yet but I am working my way through it. Bo-bobo is sort of screwy: there are scans but, as I've said before, it is really incomplete and screwed up. Last I saw was in the midst of Hajike Block...so you may have to just stick with my scripts for a while longer. Oh, and thanks also for the word on Nube, I still want to TL that series but there is so much going on that I need to figure out if/when/how. (let alone other projects like Wingman and getting back to KochiKame, since that may have fans too)
Ah, well Kinnikuman seems to be the closest to "completion" of your projects so it would make sense to go with that. Especially since there is a sequel of it. I'll most likely be able to appreciate Nisei more that way.
Hmm I see. In terms of Bobobo I may just read your translations alongside the Raws if they are all available. Though I'd prefer not to do it that way but the series really has got a raw deal. I personally hate people who jump around when scanning something. I noticed it with Hayate no Gotoku, Gintama, and Kekkaishi a year or so back. It really doesn't let one enjoy a series completely. =/
Oh you are quite welcome. I've heard of Nube from some of the spanish people I met online and then I remembered you mentioning it in the past as well. I do have an interest on seeing some of the older Jump series and how they may have formed the newer ones.
I also want to read the older ones because they weren't shaped by Dragonball as much. I enjoy it for what it does but I can only tolerate so many references and similarities to Goku before I feel its over saturation. He was pivotal, but I feel that many others were overlooked in what they contributed to the magazine's history. That and I feel what worked for Part 2 Dragonball shouldn't be such a strong staple in newer series. Looking at Bleach's degeneration is an example.
Oh, well I most certainly have an interest in Wingman. If you ever get around to translating it I will most certainly read your work. ^___^
The thread has become too statistical IMHO. It used to be a parallel to the LJ board on Jump, talking of the magazine, it's history, it's series (past and present) and of course the weekly TOC. Now it's all about TOC stats, what series is about to die, volume sales, one-shot results...it just feels like it lost a lot of soul and became a bit more corporate. I think we overworry on these things that are way out of our control and we should just enjoy the magazine for what it is while speculating a bit instead of letting it rule over us. I also think we talk too much on the new series, particularly many which will just die anyway...I don't mind short series but somehow I've noticed that a lot of the longer series usually end up being noticed anyway and that it really is hard to follow a series if you think it's on death's door all the time. (I don't mind a shorter series years later as like a link to a mangaka but I guess it's just my own personal feelings...or maybe just the bitterness of what happened to Chagecha, which I TLed all 8 chapters personally and watched it bomb after loving them for the most part).
Hmm I actually see your point. As far as stats go, I think it got so stat heavy because some people wanted to use them as proof that their series of choice would get to live for X amount of chapters. Or in reverse, a series they hate would die in X amount. Not that it is really hard to tell when something is dead last or 2nd to last consistently.
I think people really worried because they really do get too attached. Unlike the main front runners of WSJ, you get to actually be there from the beginning or near the beginning. Then when something dies people end up getting somewhat bitter after all that invested energy? Well, perhaps a number of people do need to take your advice then. XD
As far as talking too much on the newer series, I can agree with that. Good lord did Akaboshi get tons of mentioning and agony during its run. But I also think some of the newer people talk more about the new series because they might not have much to say on the current older ones.
I mean, most of us agree on Bleach sucking. Though it still has its supporters. I sure as hell can't figure out why. There is the OP vs. Naruto in the ToC rankings. Then the other series kind of dance around in the lower top and middle of the magazine. I guess they feel like it is hard to find something to talk about in regards to them without getting too series specific and getting deleted for off-topicness. But that is probably the problem in itself. Some people have only gotten used to talking about what will live and what will die so it gives them nothing to speak of with the "Safe" series. I'm also not sure of how many older series people have read outside of the likes of Dragonball so that is a factor too I guess. Well, that is my attempt at breaking recent mentalities down at any rate.
I rather enjoy the current discussion on which mangaka gave birth to who that is going on. That and I do agree with you on possibly seeing older Jump series brought into the mix more often.
As for the series being on Death's door all the time, that is precisely why I won't be particularly invested in any new series that comes about. I'm already having a hard enough time with Medaka and wanting it to live. Despite all the hate it gets. Though I will not flood the thread about it lol.
I still need to read Chagecha but I could tell it hit you rather hard.
On an unrelated note, any advice on how to absorb the Japanese language faster? I've got enough reference material but trying to keep at it consistently for long amounts of time is my biggest problem.
Sorry if I've written too much. >.<
