Oh my god, I might literally die from nostalgia.

I was addicted to Crash Bandicoot as a child. It was one of the first games I ever played, and so this news brings back all kinds of memories and feels.

Crash, Spyro, Croc, Tekken and Bloody Roar all made my childhood gaming experience.

Aren't they going to do a remake of Crash Bandicoot?
I heard it was going t be on PS4

Speaking of which though, another game I'd like to see remastered is Bloody Roar. I dunno why they stopped making them but it was pretty popular back in the day (enough to make up to four games + spin offs) and it was pretty unique. Shapeshifting characters with enhanced abilities and special moves when transformed into their respective beasts. I think kids today would love it and fighting games in general don't really get outdated.

You should get Super Smash Bros on the Wii U so you can play as Pac Man

It's too bad the Playstation all stars game isn't as popular as Nintendo's. They have so many iconic characters that people would love to play as but for some reason no other gaming company has been able to replicate the same kind of success with their icons as Nintendo has had with Smash.

What games are you thinking of getting? I'd personally recommend:

Dark Souls 3: This game is lots of fun with a great story line. Only downside is once you start playing, you might catch a case of insomnia and find yourself not eating for hours. Honestly it's definitely worth a buy!

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Because it's a great fighting game to play both at a casual and competitive level. It's button mash friendly but can be more difficult at a more expert level.

Call of Duty BO3: It took me a while to get good at this game but it was worth it when I did. Ever just wanted to style on dudes while you kill em? Well you can in this game. Halo meets classic Call of Duty. You can choose from a number of specially trained characters with unique abilities to play with. There's a character that rocks a grenade launcher, another that can turn invisible and my personal favorite 'Outrider' who fires explosive arrows from any distance. Just give her a target and she's got you

Whelps, I'm not one of the lucky My Nintendo members to try out the Switch pre-release.

Well, more information now on the nintendo switch... So far it seems to have disappointing specks at least. Haven't seen anything on battery life but my expectations aren't high. Not that a 10 hour battery like could save the console. A one hour and a half battery life would doom it IMO but excellent battery life won't save it. In any case so far it appears to be a terrible console and a mediocre portable device (it doesn't seem to fit in a pocket for instance).

I don't know. The idea that it would be able to run high end games was always a pipe dream IMO. So I'm not bothered by it's power coming in at sub-ps4 levels at all. The rumored 1 teraflop would be pretty powerful for 700p gaming(which on a handheld is going to look amazing). As a big screen gaming device it was never going to be able stand toe to toe with it's competition(I'm not expecting it to run anything well at 1080p). Where it's going to succeed or fail is as a flexible and inexpensive gaming platform.

If Nintendo can offer an affordable mobile platform with games like Zelda, Mario, and hopefully a Fire Emblem, games that rely on art style more than graphics, I'm definitely going to want one. But I'll want it as a handheld not as a primary console.

Which is why the big questions to me are still the price and battery life. The most important thing being price because for me the breakdown goes...

At $400, definitely not.
At $350, probably not.
At $300, maybe.
At $250, probably.
At $200, definitely.

I never looked and my wii, gamecube and n64 and thought "damn, I wish these were more portable". Heck, I bought a gaming laptop which weights a ton without giving a fraction of crap about the reduced portability. Even when I did have to move my old consoles I would just cram them in a backpack if I had to move them at all.

Well, price definitely is the most important factor. For me though it would be 200 for a maybe.... assuming there are a number of spectacular games out there to buy. The zelda game is promising but that alone is not enough to get me to dish out hundreds of dollars on a console....

The Switch is great. It will allow you to play your consoles in the toilet. I mean why pause the game to go take a shit when you can play while you take a shit.

Ok honestly I'm not a fan of the Switch and I generally think it's a novelty console with features that will get old quickly, but I think once the period of hipsters taking their Switches to friends houses has passed, what will keep the Switch alive is its ability to make people's lives a little more convenient. Gone are the days when necessity was the mother of invention. Now people will buy things not because they necessarily need it but because it might make their lives a little easier.

Yeah, the value thing is a tough sell. Wii and 3DS both launched at $250 and managed a drop to $200 fairly quickly after launch. So I feel like that's going to be the sweet spot. Can they hit that thought... I don't know.

I don't know know how much convenience really helps it. It's not going to be more convent as smartphone gaming. Or a Vita. Vita can be played on a big screen no problem it's just that nobody bothers because the handheld experience is better.

What it could potentially offer is fun and flexible way to play Nintendo games.

You put a great Zelda game on it. Follow with exclusive Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and eventually Pokemon and Fire Emblem games. It's going to start to look a lot more appealing isn't it? Graphics aren't as important as we tend to think. The 3DS was inferior to the PSP graphically but it was still a huge success for Nintendo.

So it's like this right?

Can they even do that though? They can't out engineer Sony. Sony can do everything better and cheaper than they can on the hardware side. And on the software side, the big 3rd party publishers and many game devs still hate them for what they did with price gouging in NES SNES era. So they will never get the exclusives Sony and Microsoft get.

The only other move for them is to pull a Sega and switch to being a 3rd party publisher. Which I think would be great, personally. But I know a lot of people don't want that.

Don't really know.

I think it's mostly a pride thing. Nintendo fans really want to Nintendo to be the equal of Microsoft and Sony. And if they get out of the hardware business they won't be that anymore.

Not to mention some people really do like the hardware they make. While it's not been very impressive stuff from a technological standpoint stuff like the Wii and 3DS is more "toy-like" and in an era where consoles are edging closer to being more similar to PC's there is an appeal to that.

I can understand that. Everybody will always have their preferences. I don't intend to buy the Switch since i've never been big on modern Nintendo consoles, but if it's even close to $300 i'll have something to say

I'll probably get it the day they release Smash for it, which might be never considering how short time ago the SSB for WiiU was released

Looks pretty great to me. Looks like an old school JRPG in all my favorite ways.
