It's a pretty big deal when there competition can go cheaper. Which is something the PS3 learned the hard way after it came out at $599 and got destroyed by the Xbox 360 until a price drop.

It's also hard to justify for the crowd they seem to want to appeal to with the TV functionality. I mean, if the point of that was to sell to more than just hardcore gamers the $499 price point pretty much guarantees that they won't be able to compete in that market.

The massive difference is that PS4 already have no serious concurrence. The Wii U is a joke & the XBOX isn't going to be on sale months in advance (and is already being destroyed on internet for the last revelations ...). PS3 had to face the Wii & an already established XBOX.

It's not for me the same situation at all. IMHO, if Sony decides to put it at the same price as the xbox, they already win.

Well, the Wii U has a large following of its own, and once all the exclusives start coming out more people are going to end up grabbing the console.

I really do feel like M$ will end up in last place this time.

But still, the Wii U didn't start very well being even outsell by the ps3 in Japan this year.

My impression about microsoft is not that they expect the competition will do something similar to them to be honest. I am of the idea that this is a tactic to get in on better deals with third party developers. While their strategy is not entirely customer friendly so to speak it is at the same time extremely developer friendly. Perhaps they plan to get exclusivity on more games so to speak? Perhaps developers will be more likely to make certain games only for xbox1 games if they feel doing so would help them avoid game resales or pirating. I guess they can't sell games if microsft does not sell consoles but on the other hand the console might be appealing even with those strict conditions if they release enough only xbox cool games so to speak.

^Well, they also supposedly pay developers to not mention the fact that their games will be available on the PS4 as well so that may help too. :/

The first Dead Rising was exclusive to Xbox360, I believe. So it's not the first time.

I also don't think that one will be forever. I'd bet there is a time limit on that contract and if the PS4 outsells the Xbone in a year or so suddenly there will be "directors cut" out for PS4. That's just how these things always seem to go down.

It's where it belongs, it started on 360 and is now on the successor, so there is no real problem. Oh every developer likes money, that's how you get those good 2nd party exclusives for sony consoles too.

MG5 looked top, only CGI in Halo5, time to play H4 singleplayer. :P Titanfall looks like a fun mecha game, Hawken where are thou? Ryse aka D-Day: Rome looked good, but to much QTEs. Never played Killer Instinct. Hopefully there won't be too many uber gamers with bought tanks in WoT. Sunset Overdrive looked like it was Overstrike could have been, but better and not that medicore Fuse. Project Spark looked nice, a great random game creator? Turn 10s take on AI simulation sounded really next-gen. W3 on PC?

Except now it is a better deal for the developer since the game won't be as easy to sell as used. I am not 100% on how the deal will work in regards to selling but if selling is more difficult or impossible it should have a positive impact on game sells as far as the developer is concerned.

Thnking about it it goes further.... nintendo does not particularly concern over this issue because they have several angles to deal with the whole money making thing. For them even if people get only used games they would still buy a console from them in general. Maybe used games helps them sell more consoles so to speak (and that might be enhanced in a future where nintendo allows for used games and others don't). Then they obviously have their games and merchandize. On the other the competition does not do so well. Sony and microsoft are not huge themselves in regards to making games, they simply sell consoles. Developers themselves don't have consoles, they rely entirely on game sales to exist. So for sony, microsoft and third party developers the issue at hand is that an used game sold means money they did not see a penny out of. Even if the point is made that used games could help be an incentive for more console sales in regards to sony and microsoft it still would not work out as nicely as it works out for nintendo. Nintendo still gets money somehow one way or the other. The competition does not quite as much. Just a crackpot theory there.
